电传（telex）是采用电码信号发出，经电路传输电信号至收方并能直接打印出文字的一种通信方式。

电传通信的优点是自动打印，传输速度快，准确率高的先进通信方式。

20世纪40年代，电传通信有很大发展。

然而电传文稿多用特定的缩写字、省略句和转换法来表达，这对翻译和草拟电传文稿带来了很多困难。

草拟和翻译商务英语电传文稿不是无章可依，而是有规可循的。

归纳起来，必须遵循如下三条基本规则：一、缩写规则(Abbreviation)：电传文稿的单词缩写规则比较特殊和复杂，有些和一般缩写词一样，有些却有其独特的形式，归纳起来有如下几种：1. 利用一个短语或单位名称的各单词的首写字母构成电传文稿。
