这个世界上每一个城市都有其特色，如果要说洛杉矶的第一个特色就在于广大的面积，就单单以Los Angeles County洛杉矶郡来说，4,061 square miles是纽约市五个County总和square miles的十倍以上大小，是San Francisco County旧金山郡square miles 的近百倍大小（约是87倍），是台湾岛的1/3到1/4大小，如果再计入Greater Los Angeles大洛杉矶都会区的范围：Orange County（OC）、Ventura County、Riverside County和San Bernardino County（The Los Angeles Five-County Area），就成为一片极其广大的都市地区，LA Metro都会区范围内有五个大型民航客机机场，为世界主要城市之最，另有World's Busiest General-Aviation Airport世界最繁忙的V an Nuys Airport（VNY）等其他许多小型飞机机场。
在洛杉矶绝大多数居民开车过生活，拥有全美最庞大的高速公路系统，这和纽约拥有全美最庞大的地铁系统，居民大多乘坐大众运输工具，刚好是个强烈的对比，来洛杉矶旅游租车会比较容易，或是当地的朋友带，不然要依靠大众运输系统是相对较困难的，不过事先研究做有限度的自助旅行是没有问题的，许多主要景点也都可以到达，也可以再继续转往San Diego或Las Vegas。
另外可选择的是华人旅行社，有各种Tour导览行程可选。
洛杉矶是相当分散的一个城市，不像有些城市可能甚至玩Downtown市中心附近就差不多了。
