How to teach more effectively in junior English teaching? With the reform of new curriculum standard, there are quite a few differences in junior English teaching. According to my observation, many of my colleagues have difficult in teaching, they were used to focus on teaching students grammar rules, analyzing the text as clearly as possible and explaining some words. Students had few opportunities to use language, which leads to their poor ability of communication. As a result, dumb English appeared, although the teachers devoted themselves fully to teaching. Therefore, how to teach more effectively in junior English teaching should be paid more attention to today. According to my teaching experience, here are some useful methods.1. How to build up rapport with students? In my opinion, the relationship between teacher and students is the key of the teaching effectiveness. And how to build up rapport with your students? With the experience of my own teaching. First, respect your students and you need the sense of humor. Each class needs jokes to attract students’attention. Second, your pronunciation should be beautiful and positive. Of course, the knowledge is power for English teacher . Last but not least, patience is the most important quality for teacher, you should control your temper properly.2. How to correct students’errors effectively and giveconstructive feedback? As a student, they are sure to make mistakes while learning a new language. If we correct their mistake properly, they will never make it again, however, if we ignore or laugh it, their confidence of learning English will be decreased. In my class, I always repeat the wrong words or sentences with a different tone and suggest students their mistakes, then correct by themselves, at last, I will give the right answer again in order to emphasize. I think it is a kind and reasonable way.3. How to monitor the whole class? Here are some key points of the effective class as far as I can see. Enough preparation, each class needs clear knowledge objectives, ability objectives and motivation objectives. You can teach according to your plan in order. Variety activities, the more activities they have, the more attention you have. For example, I will ask students to “throw a bomb” to other students, they can select anyone they want to answer my class, in this way, there are few people do not focus on my class.4. How to encourage students?Students need encouragement a lot, in my opinion,as a teacher, you should be enthusiastic yourself, because motivation andenthusiasm are contagious. When a teacher is motivated and excited about the learning materials, students will be more interested. Exhibit self-confidence, and express your confidence in your students' abilities to succeed. Teachers who are confident and motivated inspire students to achieve. Second, provide positive and supportive feedback to all students. Demonstrate that you care about their success and students will be more motivated to succeed. Respond positively to questions from students, and help them develop the skills necessary to solve problems on their own. Their motivation and self-confidence will increase as their skills increase. Create a positive environment where learning is enjoyable. Last , positive words should be applied to praise your students as many as you can.i.g. Nassy wei in our class always use”give me five” to encourage good students or stick some cartoon pictures on the good students’ clothes. This way is very interesting for primary and junior students.5. How to make lessons and activities more students-centered ? With the help of my several year’ teaching experience, there two points to make lessons more students-centered. How to design activities? First , we should be energetic and encouraging .Because our passion can make class want to learn English, they will act withnature and show more potential abilities. Also, we should praise in various ways. In our class we often say “super, good job”, the simple word not only make them active in class, but also foster their sense of achievement in future learning.Secondly, we should make class meaningful and creative. In class, we can use the short and simple sentence, use the body language to communicate with students .We should give students clear purpose and offer them opportunities to try, to create and allow them to fail. Make sure the class relaxing and interactive, be familiar to the feeling of English language.Coming up next is organizing games and activities .You know, activity is the key part of class. Including paired work, competitions, role play, guessing game, and so on. Whatever I use , I should often change the way. From students and I; student and student ;to students and students. Make all class.i.g.Cassy in our class designed all kinds of activities including visual learning (big running circle ),kinesthetic learning (ask students to find the friends of pictures),auditory learning(insert backgroud music in chant,it makes us listen very comfortably).6. How to elicit instead of telling students everything? In this part, I want to use the role-play as an example. After reading it for the first time, I will let students ask me questions orguess what I plan to explain next instead of telling them deeply.i.g.seven in our class eliciting is very good. Before she use video to elicit the topic of colour ,use simple drawing and realias to elicit new words ,use pictures on PPT to elicit new words ,this is also another way to elicit. We learn a lot from each other really.7.How to give clear instructions? Here are two general rules of telling what students need to do. First, instructions must be kept as simple as possible and they must be logical. Before teachers give instructions we must ask ourselves: What is the important information I am trying to convey? What must students know in order to complete the task successfully? which information do they need first? Which come first? What materials do students need to do the tasks? Are they going to work individually, in pairs or in groups?8. How to manage time in class?Make a "to do" list of all the things students need toaccomplish in a day. Prioritize their assignments and activities. If they have trouble with a particular subject, try completing itfirst. By getting the most difficult or urgent task out of the way first, they will relieve some of the pressure surrounding theirwork.9.How to provide the variety activities?Learn from other teachers design and select some methods which fit for our class. For example, after teaching some new words, I always ask students to dictate in time or consolidate through some games.we can design chant ,choose lucky number, memory game to consolidate new words and sentence structures. It’s up to the topic and your personal favorite ways.。
