2.Social Problems
A:Hi,Candy,I saw you read newspapers yesterday.Do you often read newspapers or some other magazines?
B:Yeah,I usually read newspapers after lunch. It’s very interesting. You know,we always can get a lot of imformation from the newspapers, such as the game results, weather reports and some social problems.
A: Oh,it sounds interesting. And do you have any idea in social problems that the government needs to concentrate on most?
B: I think housing is a big problem. There are lots of people can’t affort an house.
A: Yeah,I have heard about that. Many people, especialy those who just graduated and got a job can’t afford an house by themselves. The house price is too high for them to pay.And do you have some solution to solve this problem?
B:Actually,I don’t have any good idea to solve it. Despite the measures taken last year to cool down the overheatedreal estate market, fewer people now believe that the prices would stabilize in the near future.
A:The newspapers say that the rising demand and the concurrent raising of prices by investors are to blame, and the macro-control measures need time to take effect.
B:Maybe the government should provide some money to solve this problem though it must be very expensive.
A: Yes,it may cost much. But,I think, there would be many advantages. For example,if the housing price is decreased,it would enable us lead to a better life instead of spending our life savings on an house. Also,we would have some extra money to help poor people.
B:However, I think,if our government invests more money to overheatedreal estate market, we will need to raise the taxes. That wo uldn’t be popular with voters.
A: Most voters want everything both ways. They want the government to pay for lots of things, but without increasing taxes.
B:No,n o,I can’t agree with you. I think the real problem is that the government should show that it is using money efficiently.Every so often, you could hear about how the government has wasted money on something that have nothing to do with ordinary people.
A: I see.Maybe you are right. The government has limited funds and must show that it is using the money responsibly.。
