I always feared making silly mistakes when I was rushing to get my ideas down.2017-2019: Finding My GrooveThen around 2017, something just clicked for me with English writing. The prompts were still challenging, like writing a review of a summer camp or describing my goals for the future. But I felt more confident in getting my point across clearly and adding engaging details.I focused a lot on improving my flow and transitioning smoothly between ideas. I also tried to show off some of thefancier vocabulary and grammar constructions I'd learned. Of course, I still made mistakes here and there. But overall, I felt proud of the substance and structure of my writing during this period.2020: The Pandemic Shakes Things UpObviously, 2020 was crazy with the pandemic disrupting everything, including the Zhongkao. My exam was postponed for months, and we ultimately had to take it under really strict conditions with masks and social distancing.The writing prompt that year was about describing an memorable experience from quarantine life. On one hand, it was easy for me to draw inspiration from the unique situation we were living through. On the other hand, it was hard to put such a heavy, emotional topic into words, especially under time pressure. I did my best to balance lightheartedness and seriousness in my essay.2021-2023: The Home StretchAs we've emerged from the pandemic over the past couple of years, the writing prompts have gone back to more conventional topics like book reviews, opinion essays, andcreative stories. Phew! While those are still challenging, they feel a bit more manageable after the 2020 curveball.I've been continuing to read and write a ton to prepare. This year's prompt asked me to describe my dream job, which let me have fun imagining being a video game designer or superhero (just kidding on that last one!). I really went all out trying to make my writing engaging and descriptive.Overall, the Zhongkao English writing test hasn't been easy, but it's helped me grow so much as a writer and English speaker. Sure, there have been plenty of stressful, hair-pulling moments. But there's also a great sense of pride when I re-read my essays and see how my skills have blossomed over the years. Who knew putting thoughts into words could be this rewarding?Anyway, that's been my experience so far! I'm still an elementary school kid, so who knows what adventures the writing section will have in store for me next. But I'll keep working hard, trusting the process, and making sure my voice comes through clearly in every essay. Wish me luck!。
