A, the differences of individualism and collectivism, the Chinese emphasis on collectivism, in traditional values repeatedly emphasize the collective interests above personal interests, when the collective interests and personal interests conflict, the interests of the individual should obey collective interests, emphasizes sacrifice personal interests to collective interests. And emphasize individualism of American culture is a culture, that freedom, interests of personal inviolability, shouldn't collective interests above personal interests, so they won't sacrifice personal interests to collective interests. The differences of collectivism and individualism in the film "gua sha". When geneen datong's wife gave birth, datong was not there for the meeting. For americans this kind "the meeting is more important than his child was born," things can't understand, they can't accept this kind of thing, so baby nurse at the hearing the mood is very excited, and said it would let her remember the rest of my life.二、等级观、伦理观之差异以儒家思想为核心的中国传统文化,历来主张尊卑有序。
刮痧电影观后感英文版"Thoughts on the Movie 'Gua Sha'"I just finished watching the movie 'Gua Sha', and boy, did it give mea lot to think about! The film tells the story of a Chinese family living in the United States Xu Datong, the protagonist, is a hardworking and successful video game designer He and his wife, Jian Ning, have a lovely son, Dennis One day, Dennis has a fever and stomachache Due to the traditional Chinese practice of gua sha that Jian Ning performs on him to relieve his discomfort, it leads to a series of misunderstandings and troublesThe scene that really stuck with me was when the child welfare agency took Dennis away from his parents The look of utter helplessness and despair on Xu Datong's face was heartwrenching You could see the pain in his eyes as he struggled to understand why something that was considered normal and beneficial in his culture was seen as harmful in this foreign land I mean, come on! All he wanted was to take care of his sick son the best way he knew howAnd then there's the courtroom drama The lawyers arguing back and forth, trying to prove whether gua sha was a form of child abuse or not It was so intense! I was sitting on the edge of my seat, feeling anxious for the family The cultural gap was so wide and deep, it seemed almost impossible to bridgeAnother aspect that really hit home was the relationship between Xu Datong and his father The respect and love they had for each other, despite the generation gap and the different circumstances they found themselves in, was truly touching When Xu's father came to visit from China and brought with him the traditional values and practices, it created a beautiful yet sometimes conflicting dynamic within the familyThe movie also made me think about how we often judge things based on our own limited perspectives We assume that what we know and believe is the only right way, without taking the time to understand and appreciate other cultures It's like we're all living in our little bubbles, thinking the world outside is wrong if it doesn't match our ownThe performances of the actors were amazing They really brought the characters to life and made me feel for them I could feel Xu Datong's frustration and confusion, Jian Ning's worry and determination, and the innocence of little Dennis caught in the middle of it allOverall, 'Gua Sha' was not just a movie; it was a powerful reminder of the importance of cultural understanding and acceptance It showed me that we should be more openminded and willing to learn about different ways of life, instead of being quick to condemn what we don't understand It made me realize that in this globalized world, we need to break down the barriers of ignorance and prejudice to build a more inclusive and harmonious societySo, that's my take on 'Gua Sha' It was a wild ride of emotions and a real eyeopener I'm glad I watched it and got to experience this thoughtprovoking story。
Impression On the Film Gua Sha“Person in the United States, it is very difficult to blend混合into local culture.”The film GuaSha is truly reflect that.It shows the difference of value and culture views between western society and orient ['ɔ:riənt]东方society. 刮痧英文观后感刮痧英文观后感范文第一篇:《刮痧》英文影评 3900字The differences between Chinese and western cultures---from the movie “Gua Sha”This term, I have taken an elective course on western culture and enjoy movies and airwaves, and watched many films, such as “Gua Sha”, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, “A Christmas Carol”,” Legally Blonde”, “The Proposal”,“Friends”,“Gone with the Wind”. But what impresses me most is the film “Gua Sha”, which English name is “The Treatment”.Gua Sha is a movie about the difference between Chinese and American culture. The story happens in a Chinese family who lives in American. It mainly related the hero Xu Datong, who is a Chinese, had struggled for 8 years, tried hard to assimilate into American culture, and he as a video games designer in St. Louis had a great success and got his boss's approval and friendship. He and his wife, Jian Ning, son, Dennis, led a happy life in America. He also brought his father from china to live here together. One day, Dennis was stomachache, the grandpa used the Chinese traditional therapy to help him to scrapping, named Gua Sha, which leaves bright red marks on the skin. And then, once Dennis had an accident and went to the hospital, the doctor saw that the scar on his back, he doubts if the children was abused at home, so he called the American children protection center, so it causes a lawsuit of child abuse. Thereby, this happy family happened a series of unfortunate. At the hearing, whatever Xu Datong explained to the judge and the plaintiff about Gua Sha, the Americans alwaysmisunderstood. The opposing lawyer distorted the Chinese classics” Xi You Ji”, and his boss point out he had hit his son on the victory meeting, these all made Datong angry very much, scolding on the spot. In the court, Datong loses his mind so that finally he loses custody of his son. Because of the cultural difference, the father faces misunderstanding in the eyes of American. Thus, it made Datong break up families, and later he resigned, lost his friend and job.Later his father found the truth, went to explain that was him to Gua Sha for Dennis, not Datong, to Datong’s first counsel for the defense, John, along, and decided to leave America. At the airport, the old man want to saw his grandson, so Datong went to the welfare- house secretly to bring Dennis to the airport to see his grandpa off. On their way back, the police found Datong took Dennis, Datong and Dennis played jokes with the followed up police cars……John went to Chinese personally to experience the Chinese traditional treatment--“Gua Sha”, and hurried back to America to tell the accuser and the judge about his experience in it, and ask them to annul Datong’s result of sentence. In the film’s last, Datong f or the sake of seeing his son on Christmas Eve, he climbed up the pipe to the ninth floor which his son lives in Santa Claus dress. At last, John sent thejudiciaries rescind durance in time. And Datong climbed into the house, stayed with his families toget her again. The end is perfect. “Gua Sha” is known by the American law. The family gets together at last. But the cultural difference between countries leaves us thought-provoking. In US, this is a story that repeats itself many times in the area where many oriental IIgrants’ lives and all of these are due to simple misunderstanding between cultures. The film “Gua Sha” is based on a Chinese traditional treatment which is not well-known by most foreigners. Indeed, Gua Sha is a treatment in traditional oriental medicine, In Asia it is usually done with a coin, Chinese soup spoon, slice of water buffalo horn, or even a slice of ginger. It need repeatedly scrape some acupoint in the patient's skin to treat the patient’s illness. It’s very useful treatment for pat ient.Gua Sha is a movie about the differences between Chinese Culture and Western Culture. In American law, parents shouldn’t leave child alone and can’t ill-treat their own children. If they break this law, parent may be taken to the police station, or w hat’s worse, their children will be separated from them. However, the family in the film gets in this trouble. These laws are good for children’s growing-up, but the rules don’t work in China. In China, parents have duties to look after their kids, includi ng beat them the moment children don’t obey their words. In American, it’s illegal, children are protected by laws. What’s more, the Americans don’t understand the Chinese traditional culture, often misinterpret, and even ignore it, so it results in many unfair for Chinese. The film has deep impression to me. I’m not only proud of the extensive and profound Chinese culture, but also moved for the Chinese original ethical concept. In the movie, it embodied that Datong was so filial to his father everywhere, for example, for father get a green card, he admitted that was him to Gua Sha for his son, asked his wife not to tell the thing about Dennis’s law case to the old man to avoid his worried…… And the heart between Datong and Jian Ning was very deep, though they quarreled many times for Dennis’s case. The husband’s wohlwollen to his wife, he chose to separate to let his wife tostay with Dennis, and the wife’s care for the family, do the housework after work, look after the old and the young in the family……The most impressing scene to me is the ending. Datong wants to see his son to climb a pipe to the ninth floor, despite his danger. Datong, the grandpa and Jian Ning, their love to Dennis, was deeply moved to everyone. The film reflects the kind to each other and loves each other in a traditional Chinese family, giving expression to the great of Chinese spirit.第二篇:《刮痧》英文影评 3900字Reading reportThe film "Gua Sha" impressed me deeply and made me think about something about culture. I feel that "Person in the United States, it is very difficult to blend into local culture." through this film. It mainly talked about what happened to a Chinese family in American society. After years of hard work, Xu Datong, a Chinese IIgrant to the US, has finally achieved success as an outstanding video game designer. With his promising career and loving family, he feels that he has become a true American. However, clothes can be changed, colour of skin can't . Language can be learned, way of thinking can't. They are always Chinese, something is deeply rooted, some insistence come from nature. Datong’s father comes over from China, and uses a traditional Chinese medical technique, called guasha, to treat Datong`s son, Dennis. Unexpectedly, an American doctor thinks the bruises on Dennis` back left by the guasha treatment are signs of child abuse, and the finger is pointed at Datong. The film “Gua Sha-the Treatment” reflects the difference of value and culture views between western society and orient society. China society has been receiving impact of Confucianism for thousands years.Confucianism is known as paying attention to human relationship and ethic. Piety, courtesy and loyalism are most important ethic. But in Western culture which is more emphasis on individualism, independence and equality. So conflicts in culture and value are unavoidable. These conflicts have shown in the story. The moving also reflects some difference between Chinese education and Western education. In Chinese culture, physical punishment is commonly used by Chinese family. They think that will help children to growing up. But in western society it is absolutely forbidden. Any abusing children was viewed as illegal conduct. As to show respect to friends, Da Tong Xu punished his own son physically in front of friends. But this was misinterpreted as violence by his foreign friends. This is a misunderstanding in culture between East and West. To some point, this phenomenon reflect Chinese face view, Da Tong Xu punished his own son physically to show father's majesty and power of binding, in order to give face to his friends. But to American, this manner was regarded as inglorious conduct. Why? Because Chinese pay much attention to face, which can be understood hardly by Westerners. Westerners also emphasize face, but not complicated far from Chinese in interpersonal relationship. How to avoid the tragedy of the story? Conflicts can't be avoided in intercultural communications. We must strengthen the East-West cultural exchange and learning, and only with respect and inclusion to different cultures will it be possible to avoid the culture and values of conflict. Take an active part in East-West cultural communication, build the mutual trust to avoid superiority of own culture, try to understand other countries culture.Gua Sha , this method would inevitably leave bruise on the skin, and the story begins here, when the visiting grandpa who does not speak any English used this traditional practice to treat the grandson when both son and daughter-in-law were at work. In the moving, the grandpa asked himself painfully,"Gua Sha-the Treatment have used in Chinese for thousands years, why can't be use in American?" T o grandpa and most Chinese audiences, Gua Sha-the Treatment is so common in Chinese, it seems that they take Westerners should know it for granted, it's their fault because they don't know it. This was the easiest error to be made in intercultural communications, namely, impose own culture on another culture and use own view to evaluate others. Just because of misunderstanding of different cultures, there are so many tragedies happened on orient IIgrants in the corners of American society.。
刮痧英文观后感刮痧英文观后感《刮痧》观后感英文【一】When I first saw this film’s name ,I considered it as a movie that told us something about Chinese traditional therapy treatment. However , after the movie , I realized guasha was just a symbol of the difference between Chinese culture and western culture , and there were many aspects we should have a deep consideration .At the beginning of the film , Xu Datong slaps his son Denis on his face before the cro wd , because Denis hit the son of Xu’s son and Xu just want to show the respect to his boss Quinlan , that time Quinlan feels puzzled and says“what a Chinese logic”. Of course , an American can never know a Chinese logic of interpersonal relationship which has been prolonged more than 2000 years . Chinese can wronged their children in order to maintain friendships and leader-member relation ,while American think everyone is equal and free .In addition , they can also never understand Chinese hit their children because of loving them . In America , people pay more attention to the right of children which can be seen from the law-beating children or leave them alone is illegal , but a Chinese old proverb says “ Spare the rod , spoil the child” .Another scene which makes me deliberate is that the lawyer vilifies Sun Wukong in A Journey to the West as a symbol of barbarism and violence in the court ,then Datong is enraged and then rushes to fight the lawyer . We all can know the reason ,because Sun Wukong is a hero on behalf of justice , representing Chinese traditional values and virtues .Guasha Treatment tells us that the key to avoid the conflict of different cultures is mutual understanding and tolerance.Great Culture difference between China and America【二】After I saw the film Guasha, I was astonished by the great different culture between China and America. In fact, we should find many interesting things in the conflict of these two nations. In Xu Datong’s family, his son Dennis is totally accepted the American culture. Datong and his wife know American rules and their way of thinking, but the still keep many Chinese habitats and Chinese thoughts. Datong’s father, however, is totally a Chinese. He didn’t know American rules at all even he is profound in China. We can see that after Dennis fight with the son of Datong’s boss, Datong hit Dennis. It’s totally a Chinese’s way. American don’t hit their child or they think it’s a kind of mistreat. Obviously, this action became one the proof that Datong mistreated Dennis when they were in the court. John acknowledged that Datong used to hit Dennis. He told truth but Datong was crazy about John “betrayed” him. Here is another aspect. In Chinese’s mind, friends should always help him even tell lie for him, while Americans distinct friendship and justice clearly. They wouldn’t tell lie in the court. After Datong lost, he vented his angry on John and want to resign for his self-respect. Because Chinese always treat “face” very important. Next the most interesting conflict appeared, Datong and John argued about why he hit Dennis. Datong said that he hit Dennis to show his respect to John, to save his face. John confused and cried what kind of twisted Chinese logic! Maybe it’s the most different thing between Chinese and American which Americans would never realize.Another point is in the court, Datong called John to be his lawyer. John thought it’s not comfortable because he is an interlecture property lawyer. He suggested Datong to find a qualified one. But Datong said John is his best friend and best lawyer, he should know how Datong love his son and John should surely help him. Here is one point. When somebody in the trouble, Chinese always find friends first whether he is professional or not. Friends would certainly he lp him. But Americans think that it’s better to find a stranger who can truly help him, rather than a good friend but can’t help him. Another point is after John told Datong he was not a family lawyer, but an interlecture property lawyer, Datong said that Dennis was his best creation, so it’s in John’s field. Actually, many Chinese hold the thought that child is parents’ property. They created their children and give birth to their children, so they can do everything to him, even hit them. However, Americans do not think so. From their perspective, children are equal to adults. They are not parents’ property. So they would never say the same thing as Datong. There are countless aspects show the difference between Chinese and American, such as logic, habitat, the way of thinking and act. We can see a lot of typical examples in Guasha. As a English major, I should learn more about intercultural communication between Chinese and American. Acceptance of their logic is a important way to learn English.。
刮痧电影观后感英文版"Gua Sha" Movie Review"Gua Sha" is a film that offers a profound exploration of cultural misunderstandings and the power of family bonds The story unfolds against the backdrop of a modern society where traditional Chinese practices collide with Western medical and legal systemsThe movie begins with Xu Datong, a Chinese immigrant living in the United States with his family One day, his son has a fever and he uses the traditional Chinese method of gua sha to treat him However, this leads to a series of misunderstandings and complications when the child is seen with marks on his body by the authoritiesThe character of Xu Datong is complex and relatable He is a hardworking individual who is trying to make a successful life for his family in a foreign land His determination to provide a better future for his wife and child is evident, but he also faces the challenges of maintaining his cultural roots while adapting to a new environment The conflict he experiences when his cultural practices are misunderstood and judged by the Western system is heartwrenchingThe relationship between Xu Datong and his father is another significant aspect of the movie The gua sha technique is not just a medical treatment but a symbol of the connection between generations and the passing down of traditional wisdom When this tradition is questioned and condemned, it notonly affects Xu Datong but also represents a break in the continuity of cultural heritageThe film also highlights the importance of family in times of crisis Xu Datong's wife, Jian Ning, stands by him through thick and thin, demonstrating the strength of their marital bond Their joint efforts to overcome the difficulties and fight for justice for their family showcase the power of love and unityThe cultural gap depicted in the movie is eyeopening It makes us realize how different cultural values and beliefs can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts The Western view of medicine, which is based on scientific evidence and clinical trials, clashes with the traditional Chinese approach that relies on centuriesold practices and holistic understanding of the body This contrast raises questions about the universality of medical knowledge and the need for cultural sensitivity in a globalized worldThe performances of the actors in "Gua Sha" are commendable They bring the characters to life with authenticity and emotion, making the audience empathize with their struggles and joys The direction and cinematography also contribute to the overall impact of the film, creating a visually engaging and emotionally charged narrativeIn conclusion, "Gua Sha" is not just a movie; it is a thoughtprovoking exploration of cultural differences, family values, and the human spirit's resilience in the face of adversity It serves as a reminder that understanding and respecting different cultures is crucial for building a harmonious and inclusive world This film has left a lasting impression on me and has mademe more aware of the importance of cultural exchange and mutual understanding。
Datong Xu's Atypical Midlife CrisisBY Zhang Chi (2008030418)_“Where are we going wrong?”_“I don’t know.”After so many shouts of anger and despair, Datong Xu uttered these three words ,almost with no emotion. He had kept asking himself the same question since the day Daniel was taken away from him.Obviously ,he didn’t figure out the answer. With all efforts and cries proved to be useless, all he could figure out about his terrible situation was just thoese three words “I don’t know.”Like many middle -aged men , Datong Xu finally came to this troublesome point of life, which is usually called _ “Midlife Crisis”. From some kind of a view from our oriental philosophy , once the balance of life was broken ,your life was in danger of a crisis. When a tierd middle- aged man or woman comes home with so many exhausting trivial affairs still waiting to be handled with and so many complicated relationships to be managed, he or she just cant help to cry about this embarrassing state of living . “What s the meaning of life ? ” The question linger .And then those three words pop out in his or her mind _Midlife Crisis .Anyhow, Datong Xu's crisis was so special that we can hardly find any identical case with his. So lets just hit the nail on the head, his crisis was a atypical midlife crisis._duing to culture difference or we should say culture conflict.Suppose ,you are a successful middle -aged Chinese computer engineer who had lived in America for 8 years .Through thick and thin and even hardships beyond imagination, you finally won yourself an identity which is recognized by American society. You know , your time is coming. One day it really came ,with unspeakable shock .Your adorable little son had a Guasha ,an ancient Chinese way of acuring diseases, which surprisingly brought you a charge of the crime of child abuse .And then you have to embrace this ,a crisis ,or even disaster. This is Datong Xus story in the movie Guasha , We expierenced the anger and sorrow with the characters all along the one and half an hour. All of us may ask questions like “How come our great Chinese medicine become a tool of abusing child?”“How come our fabulous Chinese culture have to face with so deep misunderstanding in America ?” Well ,may be we should calm down first . If we look into this atypical crisis a little closer ,we may find what we can learn is more than the shallow impression like “Wow, there are so many differences between Chinese culture and American culture .”Let's ignore the old themes of great moralities and ethics stressed by Confusianism .Let's discuss how can we avoid this kind of crisis to give thousands of Datong Xu more time to enjoy the happiness of success .Actually ,I don’t think there is a perfect master plan or solution about that. Because the diversities of culture will be a eternal theme and will always exist. To some extent ,we can even say ,human civilization is so fabulous because of the diversities among nations and peoples .Anyhow, if we express our culture more clearly and bring the beauty and wisdom of our Chinese culture to the rest of the world ,we should have less anxiety when facing the conflict of cultures. Because we have great confidence of our culture and in ourselves ,for we can make ourselves well understood by others. At the same time , we should open our mind to accept the beauties and wisdoms of other cultures. By doing so ,can the world be a better place for our living.Hopefully , this dream will become true, because all of us are working hard for the better understanding of each other.。
刮痧优秀观后感英文版第一篇:刮痧影评英文版Last year, when I have the public elective curse,ur teacher intrduces a film t us which is his favrite ne--GuaSha.At that time,I was just angry at freigner’s ignrance and deeply mved fr Datng’s lve fr his sn.At this time,I watch this film again frm different pint f view--the intercultural cmmunicatin.Cultural differences are the mst imprtant pint in the intercultural cmmunicatin. At the beginning f this film,Datng with his family is attending his wn victry banquet, his sn Dennis hits his friend Paul,Paul’s parents think that’s k,it’s just a fight between tw kids.Hwever,Datng and his wife Jenny have different reactins twards that situatin.Jenny is a wman wh is deeply affec ted by western thughts, she desn’t blame his sn.At first,Datng asks his sn t aplgize t his friend Paul, but Dennis refuses t d that.S Datng is very angry because he thinks that he makes his friend lses his face.Hence,Datng strikes Dennis in his face.Everyne including his wife are shcked. The western parents regard it as family vilence, while Datng as a traditinal Chinese parent thinks that beating is a sign f affectin and cursing is a sign f lve. What he has dne is t teach his sn t shwrespect t ther peple.Frm there,we can see the cultural differences between western parents and Chinese parents in treating their children.Frm my perspective,I think Datng is a cntradictin. He grws upin China, but immigrates t western cuntry later.S Datng is familiar with Chinese culture, meanwhile he is affected by western culture. He usually treats his sn by traditinal Chinese ways, but smetime he treats his sn like a freigner parent.Fr example,he can share secrets with his sn and respect his pinins.S,that is why I say Datng is a cntradictin. The highlight f this film is abut the debate n the hearing andthat is the mst bvius part f cultural differences in the intercultural cmmunicatin. The defense lawyer f Child Welfare Agency has the evidence t charge him f abusing his sn,they find a nurse wh is respnsible fr Jenny’s parturitin. She says that Datng chse t save his wife nt the child when Jenny is in danger during parturitin, and he even desn’t give the child chance t live.hwever,Datng hlds different pinin abut that.He argues that if his wife live, they can always have mre kids, just as a Chinese famus saying ges where there's life there's hpe.S we canknw the different cncept between Chinese peple and freigners. In this film, there are tw big misunderstandings abut Chinese culture. One is abut Jurney t the West and anther ne is abut Guasha. The defense lawyer says that Sun Wukng is representative f vilence, while the truth is Sun Wukng is a gd and hnest her and represents ur traditinal values and ethics.Anther misunderstanding isabut Guasha.Guasha is a traditinal Chinese medicine cure withut medical evidence.Hwever s it has becme the direct evidence f abusing child. The cnflicts in this film is the cnflicts between tw ttally different cultures. And it deserves us t pnder ver.Frm this film,we shuld knw that if we want t get knwledge f intercultural cmmunicatin, the first step is t understand cultural differences.第二篇:刮痧影评英文版Actually,in the beginning ,I d nt reckn GuaSha wrth a written cmment just accrding t the literal meaning I’ve gt.But my views n this mvie have been dramatically changed after I finishing it.In this passage,I will rganize my cmments in three parts:1.the summary f this mvie.2.the differences between Chinese and English culture reflected in this mvie.clusin.Sectin1:GuaSha shapes a vivid image f a man whse name is DaTngxu. He is a man with a beautiful and virtuus wife .What’s mre ,he has a happy family.Hwever, everything has changed since an unexpected lawsuit came t him which is triggered by the Chinese traditinal medical treatment---GuaSha,which leads t the separatin between DaTng and his wife as well as his family. The plt then is expanded frm this wrd…Sectin2:There are s many differences in tw cultures reflected in this mvie.Firstly, the way peple think r treat abut sme rituals.Fr example ,during the party,DaTng insists that he hits his sn ut f the respect fr Jhn,while Jhn cnsiders it a rude behaviur twards Danis. And t sme extent,DaTng breaches the law.Secndly, frm the way they have dinner ,we can see their living styles are different frmurs. They use frks and knives ,but we use chpsticks. Then,in western cuntries, everything is judged accrding t prf. When they handle smething, they prefer t appeal t the law while Chinese are inclined t tackle these difficulties with their wneffrts.Next,fr lve ,DaTng is advised t tell the truth that itis his father wh des GuaSha treatment t Danis. But DaTng just keeps silent.Chinese emphasize filial affectin twards the senir. In cntrast ,westerners just want t seek the truth. At last, the cgnitin f genuine medical treatment is f difference.Traditinal Chinese medical treatment is assumed t be fake treatment in western cuntries.(Here are sme extracts frm the mvie:1.It’s nt a right thing t hit a child.Smetimes it may break the law.2.T hit smebdy means t lve smebdy.3.In China ,we use chpsticks, but here yu use frks.4.It is illegal fr parents t leave their children at hme alne.5.GuaSha is a traditinal Chinese medical treatment.6.There isn’t any written prf can prve GuaSha is a real treatment.7.Husband desn’t care abut his sn if he is absent when his sn is brn.8.T keep the mther alive is mre imprtant than the sn’s life.9.Hit his wn sn t shw the respect fr his bss.10.It’s necessary t tell the truth.11.Because he is a Chinese,he shuld be filial.12.Better early than late if yu will take the plane.)Cnclusin:In this mvie ,what strikes me mst is the lve that DaTng has twards his sn and his father.Abslutely,DaTng is a tugh and filial man.In rder t get his sn back,he ignres any punishments frm the law…Apparently,if there is any difference still existing amng different cultures, the pssibility f melting peple’s attitudes tgether is smewhat f difficulty.Maybe, clliding with ther cultures is just the apprpriate way fr cultures t assimilate int each ther.。
电影《刮痧》英语影评[5篇模版]第一篇:电影《刮痧》英语影评Movie Review of Guasha TreatmentChinese immigrant, Da Tong, struggle to hold onto their American dream after the disaster comes to him.Da Tong’s father gives a simple Chinese Medicine therapy called Guasha to his grandson, that leaves bright red marks on the skin and the American doctor mistook it as child abuse behavior. And the Children Welfare Bureau started a lawsuit about the behavior of Dennis’ father and they took action to protect Dennis. In the court, Datong loses his mind so that finally he loses custody of his son.I think this scene is shocking and thought-provoking to most of the Chinese audiences. And then this story is about how to clear the air and win his son back. The movie Guasha Treatment is designed to discuss the culture differences between China and America. In this movie, we can see culture shock everywhere. At the beginning of the movie, Da Tong insisted to make Dennis apologize to Paul because Dennis hits Paul.In order to make Dennis say sorry, Da Tong hits Dennis when everybody were there. He wants to show his respect for his boss while what his son do is to show his love to daddy.Da Tong gives his boy a light rap on the head when he refuses to apologize and the boy cries to his mother that the reason he hit his playmate was that the other boy called Da Tong stupid, one of many examples of doing the wrong thing to protect your family. This situation makes the American so confused.American would not hit their children in the public when their children do something wrong.Even they will give their children a chance to explain what happens. But in China, parents always hit their children in the public and make them feelsorry.Even not give them a chance to explain their action.Da Tong is the father who is trying to integrate his Chinese cultural beliefs into his daily American reality, especially when dealing with his son.His education is Chinese way while his wife Jenny wants to educate Dennis in American way. There is conflict within his family because grandfather can’t speak English and is exclude from many conversations because Jenny wants only English spoken in her home for the benefit of her American born son.Da Tong and his wife are very well educated and understand that their child's best chances for success in America, and for him not to experience the same troubles they've had during the past 8 years, are to speak without an accent. They even go so far as to insist the boy use a fork and knife instead of chopsticks, even when it's obvious they are still eating Chinese style food, served in the normal way: communal dishes for the food and smaller, individual rice bowls for each person.Mother seems a bit inflexible in her insistence on being as American as possible, while Da Tong's cultural leanings are just as strongly Chinese, although not by conscious choice. The conflict arising from doing the wrong thing out of love or respect for one's family or closest friends continues throughout the movie, and every way Da Tong turns, he finds failure and encounters both obvious and subtle forms of anti-Chinese racism.Even Chinese folklore about the Monkey King(Sun Wu Kong), that Da Tong incorporates into a video game he designed is used to provoke his pride when he's vulnerable and fearing for the loss of his son.Da Tong is misunderstood by everyone, family, friend, and foe, even though he has only the best intentions, and he carries the responsibility quite heavily, making one wrong turn after another.Talking to the different cultures between the East and the West, I have to sayAmerican law does play an important role in protecting children. They have laws to force parents to take care of their children. To live their child in home alone, that is forbidden in American law while there is not such law in China. And in America, they have institutions such as Children Welfare Bureau to protect children and to deal with issues about children abuse.Well, in China we concern children not w are not comprehensive, society power is not enough too.But the most impressing scene in this movie to me is the ending.Datong wants to see his son in Christmas Eve, he has to climb a pipe to the ninth floor which his son lives.I think the pipe is not only a pipe, but also a gap, a deep gap between American and 5000-year Chinese culture. He wants to climb over the gap and he will never succeed, perhaps no Chinese people really could succeed.Person in the United States, it is very difficult to blend into local culture. This is the cultural difference between nation and nation, Chinese people would not live in their own way outside his motherland.shows how a person's cultural beliefs are so deeply set within oneself that it is usually impossible to examine why you do most anything, from how you dress and talk to whom you love and respect and how you show it.The invisible nature of one's cultural beliefs also makes it difficult to impossible to explain yourself to others when questioned. How to avoid such tragedy of this kind of story? We must enhance the culture exchange and culture study.Only with respect and knowledge to different cultures, will it be possible to accept outside culture and avoid conflict.
Last year, when I have the public elective course, ourteacher introduces a film to us which is his favorite one-- GuaSha.At that time,I was just angry at foreigner ' s ignorance and deeply moved for Datong' s love for his son.At this time,I watch this film again from different point of view--the intercultural communication.Cultural differences are the most important point inthe intercultural communication. At the beginning of this film,Datong with his family is attending his own victory banquet, his son Dennis hits his friend Paul,Paul ' s parents think that ' s ok,it ' s just a fight between two kids. However,Datong and his wife Jenny have different reactions towards that situation.Jenny is a woman who is deeply affected by western thoughts, she doesn' t blame his son.At first,Datong asks his son to apologize to his friend Paul, but Dennis refuses to do that.So Datong is very angry because he thinks that he makes his friend loses his face.Hence,Datong strikes Dennis in his face.Everyone including his wife are shocked. The western parents regard it as family violence, while Datong as a traditional Chinese parent thinks that beating is a sign of affection and cursing is a sign of love. What he has done is to teach his son to show respect to other people. From there,we can see thecultural differences between western parents and Chinese parents in treating their children. From my perspective,I think Datong is a contradiction. He grows upin China, but immigrates to western country later.SoDatong is familiar with Chinese culture, meanwhile he is affected by western culture. He usually treats his son by traditional Chinese ways, but sometime he treats his son like a foreigner parent. For example,he can share secrets withhis son and respect his opinions. So,that is why I say Datong is a contradiction. The highlight of this film is about the debate on thehearing andthat is the most obvious part of cultural differencesin the intercultural communication. The defense lawyer ofChild Welfare Agency has the evidence to charge him of abusing his son, they find a nurse who is responsible for Jenny' s parturition. She says that Datong choose to save his wife not the child when Jenny is in danger during parturition, and he even doesn ' t give the child chance to live.however,Datong holds different opinion about that.He argues that if his wife live, they can always have more kidsjust as a Chinese famous saying goes where there ' s life there ' s hope.So we can know the different concept between Chinese peopleand foreigners」n this film, there are two big misunderstandingsabout Chinese culture. One is about Journey to the West and another one is about Guasha. The defense lawyersays that Sun Wukong isrepresentative of violence, while the truth is Sun Wukong is a good and honest hero and represents our traditional values and ethics.Another misunderstanding isabout Guasha.Guasha is a traditional Chinese medicine cure without medical evidence. However s it has become the direct evidence of abusingchild. The conflicts in this film is the conflicts between two totally different cultures. And it deserves us to ponder over. From this film,we should know that if we want to get knowledge of intercultural communication, the first step is to understand cultural differences.第二篇:刮痧影评英文版Actually, in the beginning ,I do not reckon GuaShaworth a written comment just according to the literal meaning I ' ve got. But my views on this movie have been dramatically changed after I finishing it. In this passage, I will organize my comments in three parts:1.the summary of this movie.2.the differences between Chinese and English culture reflected in this movie.3.Conclusion.Section1: GuaSha shapes a vivid image of a man whosename is DaTongxu. He is a man with a beautiful and virtuous wife .What' smore ,he has a happy family. However, everything has changed since an unexpected lawsuit came to him which is triggered by the Chinese traditional medical treatment---GuaSha, which leads to the separation betweenDaTong and his wife as well as his family. The plot thenis e xpanded from this word …Section2: There are so many differences in two cultures reflected in this movie. Firstly, the way people think or treat about some rituals. Forexample ,during the party, DaTong insists that he hits his son out of the respect for John, while John considers it a rude behaviour towardsDanis. And to some extent, DaTong breaches the law. Secondly, from the way they have dinner ,we can see their living styles are different fromours. They use forks and knives ,but we use chopsticks. Then, in western countries, everything is judged according to proof. Whenthey handle something, they prefer to appeal to the law while Chinese are inclined to tackle these difficulties with their own efforts. Next, for love , DaTong isadvised to tell the truth that it is his father who does GuaSha treatment to Danis. But DaTong just keeps silent. Chinese emphasize filial affection towards the senior. In contrast ,westerners just want to seek the truth. At last, the cognition of genuine medical treatment is ofdifference. Traditional Chinese medical treatment is assumed to be fake treatment in western countries.(Here are some extracts from the movie:1.It ' s not a right thing to hit a child. Sometimesit may break the law.2.To hit somebody means to love somebody.3.In China ,we use chopsticks, but here you use forks.4.It is illegal for parents to leave their childrenat home alone.5.GuaSha is a traditional Chinese medical treatment.6.There isn ' t any written proof can pro ve GuaSha is a real treatment.7.Husband doesn' t care about his son if he is absent when his son is born.8.To keep the mother alive is more important than the son' s life.9.Hit his own son to show the respect for his boss.10.It ' s necessary to tell th e truth.11.Because he is a Chinese, he should be filial.12.Better early than late if you will take the plane.)Conclusion :In this movie ,what strikes me most is the love that DaTong has towards his son and his father. Absolutely, DaTong is a tough and filial man. In order to get his son back, he ignores any punishments from the law …Apparently, if there is any difference still existing among different cultures, the possibility of melting people ' s attitudes together is somewhat of difficulty. Maybe, colliding with other cultures is just the appropriate way for cultures to assimilate into each other.。
Climb The Pipe, Bridge The Gap11291072 田轶男As an ethic movie, Gua Sha highlights the differences between American and Chinese culture incisively and vividly. The movie shows us how easy the misunderstandings arising from different cultural perspectives and how simple it can be nullified if both sides are willing to listen to the explanations. The most moving scene happens at the end of the movie, when the father, Xu Datong who has a strong willing to reunite with his family, climbs a pipe to the ninth floor with his gift for his son at the Christmas Eve. In my eyes, the pipe he climbs has become not only a pipe, but also a gap, a deep gap between American and 5000-year Chinese culture. Finally, with the help of his American friend Abram, he gets his destination, and at the same time, builds a bridge between Chinese and American culture.Gua Sha, a Chinese traditional medicine craft, survives in the long river of 2000 years of history, remaining to build Chinese robust body. However, when it is exposed in America, big troubles follow. Thecontradictions arising from Gua Sha epitomize the deep differences between America and China.First of all, the philosophy is quite different between China and America. The American advocate of rationalism of positivism, its medical --anatomy, is built on the philosophical thinking. This kind of thinking causes the misunderstanding about traditional Chinese medical science. So when Xu Datong tries to explain Chinese medicine craft Gua Sha in court, both the judge and the lawyer can’t understand what he is talking about. On the contrary, the characteristics of Chinese philosophy are the "nature and humanity", which aims at exploring the relationship between nature and humans. Confucian moral, teaches us how heavy human’s life is, and the evolution of the Taoist heavy universe, teaches a person to adapt to nature. As the result, Chinese medical science praises highly the nature and forms a diverse medical treatment from the west.Next distinguish difference happens in the area of family ethics. Chinese think highly of family ethics. They think everyone in the family plays an important role and emphasize the harmonious family atmosphere.Nevertheless, western culture respects personal idea. They've accepted the independent spirit and therefore their family feelings are relatively weak. As a consequence, it is difficult for Americans to understand these Chinese values. For example, Xu Datong prefers to choose to suppress the truth to his father in order to relieve his father from worrying. It is quite caring although Americans may think Xu’s father also has the right to know the truth and Xu’s behavior has violated his rights. This is a represent of Chinese piety in family ethics.Next part I want to talk about is the education value. Education is playing more and more important role in people’s daily life, for it is not only related to this generation, but also matters the future. However, Chinese educational value is quite different from American. There is an old saying in China---- “Spare the rod and spoil the child”. It reflects the value rooted deeply in Chinese heart-----Chinese children are regarded as a private property of their parents. As the old saying from “Three Character Classic" says, "do not support is the fault of father". In Chinese value, the parents have the responsibility as well as the power to educate their child,no matter by what means. Of course hitting child with educational purpose is acceptable in China. But when it comes to America, everything changes. Xu Datong’s education to his son which is normal in China, has touches the American law.The last part is about the friendship concept. Although Americans keep many friendly unofficial ties, they rarely have that kind of deep and sustain years. People choose my friends, at the same time; they also make friends or relations and social work obligations separate." In China, the situation is different. Friendship can last long no matter what happens. To Chinese friend's great expectations, if you have difficulty, they ought to donate whatever they can. Comparing with Chinese value, Americans have more principles. Take Abram as a typical example. There’s no doubt that he regards Xu as a friend, otherwise he won’t fly to China to find Gua Sha to help him. But when he is in court for the first time and knows nothing about this Chinese craft, he is naturally shocked by the photo and changes his mind to not defend for Xu immediately. The reason is simple: In his mind, principle ismuch more important than human relationship. It is impossible for him to lie even he wants to save his friend. The gap between Chinese and American culture seems too deep to be bridged. But love has the same rhythm in different melody. No matter being played by violin or Gu’zheng, if the audience has enough patience and willing to appreciate, he or she is supposed to understand the performance at last. Just as the film’s happy ending shows, if you are willing to try, you will “climb the pipe successfully” and bridge the gap between Chinese and American culture at last.。
