Teaching goal:

develop a positive attitude towards the past.

Teaching key points:

how to use simple past tense using

“did” structure.

Teaching procedure:

1. Warming up: say hi to students and ask some

basic

questions. For example:

How is everything ?

What is the weather like today?

What day is it today?/what’s the date?

改:What day was it yesterday?/what was

the

date? 2. Lead-in

2) Pair work: talk in pairs and ask each other what did they do

yesterday.

3. V-ed word review.

1) shout out the V-ed.

Look at the verbs on the screen and shout out the past

forms out loud one by one in groups.

② Read the words: students read the verbs togeter

in

order to remember well.

③ Find the rules of changing v into v-ed: discuss

first

and then talk freely.

And the teacher can help to conclude and

emphasize the four rules of changing a verb into its v-ed form.

2) Chant-making (to practice v-ed)

The teacher gives an example first and asks students to do the

same while clapping their hands. For example:

What did you do?what did you do?

Play, played, played.

3) Listen to music and fill in the blanks.

Listen to a song “whatever will be will be” and write down the V-ed in the blanks.

4.

Sentence study

1) Finish the letters (letter writing to talk about the past):

finish the letters in 3A and ask students to read them

out

together.

2) Watch a video: video-watching and notes-making

Questions:

What is is talked about in the video?

What did you learn from the video?

3) Review the different sentence structures:

encourage

students to make sentences using did and then read

the

general questions in the book with a rising tone.

5. Group work

1) Make a survey (according to the handouts given by

the

teacher): interview two other people in the group to

find

about what they did last weekend.

A: Did you read English last weekend?

B: Yes, I did. / No, I didn’t.

2) Group report

After the interview, each group is supposed to make a report

in front of the class (everyone should have the chance to talk).

While listening, others should find out the possible mistakes and correct them.
