A

Some years ago, writing in my diary used to be a usual activity.I would return from school and spend the expected half hour recording the day’s events, feelings, and impressions in my little blue diary. I did not really need to express my emotions by way of words, but I gained a certain satisfaction from seeing my experiences forever recorded on paper. After all, isn’t accumulating memories a way of preserving the past?

When I was thirteen years old, I went on a long journey on foot in a great valley, well-equipped with pens, a diary, and a camera. During the trip, I was busy recording every incident, name and place I came across. I felt proud to be spending my time productively, dutifully preserving for future generations a detailed description of my travels. On my last night there, I wandered out of my tent, diary in hand. The sky was clear and lit by the glare of the moon, and the walls of the valley looked threatening behind their screen of shadows. I automatically took out my pen ... At that point, I understood that nothing I wrote could ever match or replace the few seconds I allowed myself to experience the dramatic beauty of the valley. All I remembered of the previous few days were the dull characterizations I had set down in my diary.

Now, I only write in my diary when I need to write down a special thought or feeling. I still love to record ideas and quotations that strike me in books, or observations that are particularly meaningful. I take pictures, but not very often — only of objects I find really beautiful. I’m no longer blindly satisfied with having something to remember when I grow old. I realize that life will simply pass me by if I stay behind the camera, busy preserving the present so as to live it in the future.

I don’t want to wake up one day and have nothing but a pile of pictures and notes. Maybe I won’t have as many exact representations of people and places; maybe I’ll forget certain facts, but at least the experiences will always remain inside me. I don’t live to make memories —I just live, and the memories form themselves.

该文第一段围绕着首句“Some years ago, writing in my diary used to be a usual activity.”

第二段讲述作者在写日记一事上的转变,全段没有主题句,因此可围绕change一词将本段大意概括为“The author’s attitude towards the diary changed after a trip to a valley.”。

第三段围绕首句“Now, I only write in my diary when I need to write down a special thought or feeling.”

第四段是作者的感悟,即“I don’t live to make memories —I just live, and the memories form themselves.”。

The author had made it a routine to keep a detailed diary of her/his everyday life to store memories.(要点1) That changed after a trip to a valley, where she/he realized breathtaking scenery was meant to be felt with heart rather than written down mechanically.(要点2) Thus, she/he has become selective about what to put in her/his diary, (要点3) focusing on the present instead of busying herself/himself with recording memories for the past or the future.(要点4)

要点3由Thus一词引出作者现在写日记的方式,即“become selective about what to put in her/his diary”,同时通过非谓语结构“focusing on ... instead of busying ...”

Group singing is a sound that begins inside you, shares it with a roomful of people and it comes back as something even more thrilling: harmony. So it’s not surprising that group singing is on the rise.

As the popularity of group singing grows, science has been hard at work trying to explain why it has such a calming yet energizing effect on people. What researchers are beginning to discover is that singing is like a filling of the perfect tranquilizer (镇静剂), the kind that both eases your nerves and lifts your spirits. The high spirits may come from endorphins, a hormone (荷尔蒙) released by singing, which is associated with feelings of pleasure. Or it might be from oxytocin, another hormone released during singing, which has been found to ease anxiety and stress.Oxytocin also strengthens feeling of trust and bonding, which may explain why still more studies have found that singing lessens feelings of depression and loneliness.

The benefits of singing regularly seem to be accumulative. In one study, singers were found to have lower levels of stress. Another investigation suggesting that our heart rates may keep pace with each other during group singing could also explain why singing together sometimes feels like a guided group meditation. Study after study has found that singing relieves anxiety and contributes to quality of life.

It turns out you don’t even have to be a good singer to gain the rewards.According to one study, group singing “can produce satisfying and therapeutic feelings even when the sound produced by the mouth is of average quality”.Singing groups which vary from casual affairs to serious, professional or a vocational ones will all work.

Group singing is cheaper than medical treatment, healthier than drinking, and certainly more fun than working out. It is the one thing in life where feeling better is pretty much guaranteed. Even if you walked into the group exhausted and depressed, by the end of the night you’ll walk out high as a kite on endorphins and good will.

So it’s not surprising that group singing is on the rise.

第二段没有明显的主题句,但是我们可以找到一些关键短语“explain why it has such a calming yet energizing effect on people, eases your nerves and lifts your spirits”,这些短语说明了合唱的功效。要关注两个关键句子:“The high spirits may come from endorphins, a hormone ... Or it might be from oxytocin, another hormone ...”,这解释了合唱有功效的生理原因。

The benefits of singing regularly seem to be accumulative.

It turns out you don’t even have to be a good singer to gain the rewards.

Group singing is cheaper than medical treatment, healthier

than drinking, and certainly more fun than working out.

Group singing is becoming more popular (要点1) and scientists find out that singing will help make people calm and energetic, which results from some hormones released by group singing. (要点2) Also, singing together will have a good influence on each other.(要点3) Whether people can sing well or not, it benefits.(要点4) Besides, singing costs little, makes us healthy and has a lot of fun.(要点5)

范文开门见山提到合唱正变得流行,用“become more popular”替代了原文中的“on the rise”;然后用and连接自然过渡到了第2个要点:科学家研究发现合唱的好处,用“make people clam and energetic”代替了“has such a calming yet energizing effect on people”,并且用which引导的非限制性定语从句来解释合唱带来好处的原因。

第3个要点把主题句中的accumulative用“have a good influence on each other”表示;要点5用三个并列的谓语“costs little, makes us healthy”和“has a lot of fun”替换了原文中的三个比较结构“cheaper than, healthier than”和“more fun than”。

It is early in the morning and I’ve hardly caught an y shut-eye. My breakfast of eggs, bread and strong coffee will keep me awake and alert before lunch. After lunch, I will face an afternoon of yawning in the office. Sometimes I feel uneasy about this situation but I am sure that I am not alone, for it is not too much to say that we all seem to be yawning more often. Are we turning into a generation of insomniacs (患失眠症的人)?How is modern life influencing our sleep patterns?

We can start by blaming the light bulb and other forms of man-made light. Experts say that on average people go to bed and wake up two hours later than the previous generation. Then, there are the computers. Research led by Professor Charles Czeisler of Harvard Medical School has shown that people who read electronic books

before going to bed take longer time to fall asleep. They have lower levels of melatonin, a chemical which controls our body clock. And they’re less active in the morning. Professor Czeisler said, “In the past 50 years, there has been a decrease in average sleep length and quality.Since more people are choosing electronic devices for reading, communication and entertainment, especially teenagers who already experience serious sleep loss, research on the long-term influence of these devices on health and safety is urgently nee ded.”

So the first thing to do if you want to have a restful night is leave computers out of the bedroom. The earlier you get your fingers off the keyboard, the sooner you tend to fall asleep. Avoid alcohol, as it might reduce our cycles of the “rapid eye movement” sleep, when our brains process the information we have received during the day.It prevents our brain activity going well. And do not eat nuts or cheese in the evening.

After that, if you still cannot sleep, start counting sheep. Maybe that is the best way to avoid another afternoon of yawning in the office.

第二段主旨需要整合第一句和后面的“there are the computers”这一句。

第三段主旨也是需要整合三条并列的具体建议,即“leave computers out of the bedroom, Avoid alcoho l”和“do not eat nuts or cheese”。

Modern people suffer from sleeplessness and consequently get into a state of tiredness easily. (要点1) This phenomenon results from the negative effects of artificial light and computers.(要点2) So in order to solve the problem, people are advised to reject computers, resist alcohol as well as refuse nuts or cheese before bedtime.(要点3)Even counting sheep may help solve the problem in some way.(要点4)

范文将原文的“hardly caught any shut-eye, yawning, insomniacs, sleep patterns”概括为“sleeplessness”和“a state of tiredness”,实现语言的转化和灵活表达。为保证表达的流畅,分别用phenomenon 联系要点1和要点2,用“in order to solve the problem”过渡到要点3。

A

With only two weeks to go before Christmas, buying presents is a high priority for a lot of people. However, this year not so many people are leaving their homes to go shopping. These days lots of people can do their shopping in the comfort of their own home with the help of the Internet.

Online shopping is becoming more and more popular for a number of reasons: prices are often lower online; you don’t have to queue up in busy shops and you can buy almost any product imaginable with just a few clicks of your mouse.

Both male and female are buying into the trend, but women are expected to do more shopping on the Internet than men. It seems women are now more attracted to the convenience of online shopping than they used to be. Average spending online this Christmas by women will rise to £ 240 (3,360 yuan) compared to the slightly lower average of £ 233 (3,262 yuan) for men.

In the past a lot of people were reluctant to shop online. Many were worried about the security of entering their card details on the Internet and the reliability

of the Internet but as shopping online has become more widespread, these worries have begun to disappear. 45% of Internet users still do have security worries but it hasn’t slowed down the ever-increasing numbers of online shoppers.

One victim of the online shopping boom is the UK high street. The average spending per person on the high street is only £ 197.70% of Internet users who are now buying their Christmas gifts online. Christmas trading can represent up to 60% of the business for some stores. Many companies are concerned that not enough shoppers are coming through their doors in the run-up to Christmas. As a result there are lots of special offers in the shops. Most shops traditionally have sales after Christmas but this year the bargains have come early in an attempt to attract consumers to spend.

第三段信息重点是but后面的“women are expected to do more shopping on the Internet than men”。

第一段的表达要点是“not so many people are leaving their homes to go shopping”也可以是“lot s of people can do their shopping in the comfort of their own home with the help of the Internet”,结合背景圣诞购物,概括起来就是“people are doing Christmas shopping online at home rather than leaving their homes”。

第三段的要点是“women are expected t o do more shopping on the Internet than men”,利用简化原则,概括起来就是“women spend more than men”。

第四段概括起来核心内容是“security worries haven’t slowed down the ever-increasing numbers of online shoppers”。

第五段的要点是“One victim of the online shopping boom”和“the bargains have com e early”,概括起来就是“Because of the popularity of online shopping, the bargains have come early.”。

This year, people are doing Christmas shopping online at home rather than leaving their homes for cheaper goods and more convenience.(要点1) With increasing popularity of online shopping, women spend more than men.(要点2) Although safety is a major concern for shopping online, still more and more people choose to shop online.(要点3) With the pressure from widespread online shopping, traditional shops in the UK high street began their sales promotion earlier this Christmas.(要点4)

范文把第一、二段合并为一个要点,用“rather than”表达“在家网购而不是外出购物”,然后用for引导的介词短语表达原因,用名词短语“cheaper goods”替换“prices are often lower online”,“more convenience”替换“don’t have to queue up”和“you can buy almost any product ...”,使表达简洁明了。

要点2表达时,用with短语衔接上下句,然后简洁地表达“women spend more than men”。

Many seniors feel pressured to go straight from high school to college —but Camden Olson, who graduated from Latin School of Chicago in the US last year, didn’t give in. She decided to spend a gap year raising a guide dog for Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Maine.

The non-profit provides trained guide dogs to blind and visually impaired people.

“I can say I’m living the dream,” Olson said.“This is something I’ve always wanted to do.”

Taking a year off before college, commonly known as a gap year, is becoming more and more popular among American teenagers. According to a survey by the American Gap Association, enrollment in these programs grew 27 percent between 2012 and 2013. Some students use the year off to figure out what they want to do, travel around the world, or save money for college.

Olson is using her time to pursue a passion she’s had since 7th grade. For years, she kept an eye on guide dog services until she came across the opportunity at Guiding Eyes. With support from her friends, family and teachers, Olson went for it.

Olson’s volunteer work centers around Derby, a 1-year-old black dog.“My job is to raise him to be well-mannered and socialized,” she said.“Guide dogs have to ignore any distractions. They go everywhere with their visually impaired handler. They give a blind person a lot of independence and emotional support, too.”

Of course, there’s an end in sight for Derby and Olson’s close bond. When Derby celebrates his own graduation, Olson will have to say goodbye to him.

While some look at gap years in a negative light, Olson said she’s seen major success. In fact, she’ll be attending Princeton University this fall and is thinking about majoring in ecology and biology.

“I think I’m already much more mature than I was and aware of what really matters,” she said.“So many kids do come back from gap years a lot more focused and prepared.”

所以我们要交代清楚人物(Camden Olson)、时间(last year after graduating senior school)、事由(raise a guide dog called Derby),这样文章的脉络就一目了然,有助于概括大意。

Unlike many other high school graduates, Olson was determined to take advantage of her gap year to train a guide dog, which was what she longed to do for a long time.(要点1)Not only did Olson accomplish the task of training Derby to be capable of its work —to help people with visual disabilities, (要点2) but also she herself benefited much from this experience.(要点3)

陈述事由的起因灵活运用了非限制性定语从句和表语从句,范文中用train代替raise,用“what she longed to do”替代“a passion she’s had since 7th grade”。 毫无疑问,导盲犬的主要作用在于能够为盲人导路,给予陪伴和支持,这也是Olson训练导盲犬的主要指导方向,所以用“accomplish the task of training Derby to be capable of its work”简要叙述其过程,范文中用“people with visual disabilities”代替“visually impaired people”,而Olson的收获用了benefited一词,两者的结合用了“not only ... but also ...”

Living in a foreign country probably sounds exciting and romantic to you. Just imagine the noises from the local market or the smell of strange flowers when you leave the house in the morning. But this doesn’t mean that life abroad is easy. When people set foot in a foreign land, they tend to keep to what is familiar. Becoming

a part of the local culture can be the hardest part of life abroad.

However, in order to get the most of their life abroad, people need to break out of their comfortable routines and explore. The moment you let go of false ideas and stereotypes, you are ready to take your first major step. And more often than not, living in a foreign country can be a truly life-changing experience.

Even for experienced travellers, it is not as easy as it seems to get used to life abroad. Making the transition from living like a visiting holidaymaker to living like a local takes time. Culture shock is part of living abroad and hits everyone eventually. The key is not to let it get the better of you. You have to accept that things are not the same as they are at home and, until you get to that point, try to be respectful, patient and humble.

Another problem is that the charm of a foreign life could wear off as time passes by. For most people, a foreign culture appears strange and exciting at first. After all, the main reason for moving abroad is often the wish to explore foreign cultures. However, after living in a foreign country for a while, little things that you once thought were charming begin to annoy you. You remember how everything ran on schedule back home, how beautiful your hometown was and how much more relaxed and friendly everyone seemed to be.

So, you’d better understand issues with the local food, or problems with adjusting to the pace of life as you live abroad someday in the future.

第三、四两段围绕“it is not as easy as it seems to get used to life abroad”分两点解释原因。

“Becoming a part of the local culture”“living like a local”和下文的“adjusting to the pace of life”表达同样的意思,我们可以用总结性的语句统一进行表述,这样就可以整合表达要点1和要点2。

Different from people’s assumption that life abroad is full of romance, (要点1) accepting the new culture and adapting to the new environment is difficult, (要点2) for the reason that it is time-consuming to overcome culture conflict that one experiences in an unfamiliar environment, (要点3) and that one is likely to suffer from homesickness.(要点4) However, in order to make full use of the new culture, it is significant to be open to it and experience it.(要点5)

范文中把要点1和要点2表达为一句,主要是为了用“different from”替换原文的but,并用assumption代替原文中的动词sound,为避免重复用“full of romance”代替“romantic”。

Getting rid of dirt, in the opinion of most people, is a good thing. However, there is no thing fixed about attitudes to dirt. In the early 16th century, people thought that dirt on the skin was a means to block o ut disease, as medical opinion had it that washing off dirt with hot water could open up t he skin and let ills in. A particular danger was though to lie in public baths. By 1538, the French king had closed the bath houses in his kingdom. So did the king of England in 15 46. Thus began a long time when the rich and the poor in Europe lived with dirt in a frie ndly way. Henry IV, King of France, was famously dirty. Upon learning that a nobleman h ad taken a bath, the king ordered that, to avoid the attack of disease, the nobleman sho uld not go out. Though the belief in the merit (好处) of dirt was long-lived, dirt has no longer been re garded as a nice neighbor ever since the 18 century. Scientifically speaking, cleaning awa y dirt is good to health. Clean water supply and hand washing are practical means of pre venting disease. Yet, it seems that standards of cleanliness have moved beyond science since World War II. Advertisements repeatedly sell the idea: clothes need to be whiter th an white, cloths ever softer, surfaces to shine. Has the hate for dirt, however, gone too f ar? Attitudes to dirt still differ hugely nowadays. Many first-time parents nervously try to warn their children off touching dirt, which might be responsible for the spread of diseas e. On the contrary, Mary Ruebush, an American immunologist (免疫学家), encourages ch ildren to play in the dirt to build up a strong immune system. And the latter (后者) positi on is gaining some ground.

Although some people don't like using automatic hand dryers in restrooms, it may actually be argued that motion-sensing hand dryers are a practical alternative to paper towels. I believe that our school would benefit from investing in automatic hand dryers in all the restrooms. First of all, the automatic hand dryer is very sanitary(卫生的). Instead of pulling on a lever (手柄) touched by a large number of students, users can just stick their hands under the air dryer. No bacteria can get on them because there is nothing to touch. Kids wouldn't get sick from the paper towel dispensers (纸巾盒) . In addition, if the school buys automatic hand dryers, we can save money. There is a terrible waste of paper towels in the restrooms. Students continuously pull on the lever for unneeded towels until the dispensers are empty. An automatic hand dryer costs about $500, with very little additional cost over time while paper towels can cost $25 a case, or about $500 a year. After just one year, it would pay for itself. Finally, our bathroom is a paper towel mess! There are always piles of paper towels on the floor. Sometimes the extras fall from the dispenser unused. Many times kids make their used towel into a ball and aim for a basket. But if they miss the target, the paper ball stays on the floor. Paper towels leave so much litter in the restrooms that the restrooms are a mess. People use the hand dryers for just a few seconds, and they think that automatic hand dryers don't dry their hands as thoroughly as paper towels. However, studies have shown that when people dry their hands for at least 30 seconds, automatic dryers actually dry much better than paper towels. It is difficult to get every part of your hand dry using paper towels, but the air can if you take a few extra seconds. As you see there are some good points, let's install automatic hand dryers as soon as possible! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Compared with paper towels, hand dryers have more advantages, which will benefit school in four ways. First, they are clean and healthy because bacteria can’t touch kids. Additionally, i t can help school save money. Thirdly, our bathroom can be kept clean and neat. Besides, it can dry our hands more effectively if we take longer time. Therefore, school is advisable to fix the equipment at once.(66) 【解析】 【分析】

Craig watched his old sister, Riley, and her friend Liz race up and down the lake on their skates, avoiding other hockey(曲棍球) players. Their skate blades looked like silver smoke. When the game was over, the girls skated up to the bench where Craig was sitting. Craig asked Riley what skating felt like. “When I go really fast, I feel like I’m flying,” she said. That’s silly, thought Craig. Flying is something birds do in the air, not something people do on ice skates. Then he watched Riley go back out on the ice. She skated around and around the edge of the lake with her arms pumping and her scarf trailing behind her. Soon she went so fast that her arms looked like wings and her scarf looked like a feathery tail. Maybe skating really was like flying. When Riley sat down to take her skates off, Craig said, “I wish I could fly.” Riley retied her skate laces and crouched next to Craig. “Get on my back,” she said, and Craig did. Riley started skating, but Craig didn’t feel like he was flying. It just felt like a shaking piggyback ride. “You’re too heavy,” Riley said. “I can’t go fast when I’m carrying you.” She skated slowly back to the bench. Craig got off her back. “Even if you could go fast, I wouldn’t be flying.” he said sadly. “I need skates to fly.” Riley didn’t say anything on the walk home, but a few days later she asked Craig if he wanted to go skating. “To watch?” he asked. “No, to skate,” she said cheerfully. “Mom and I found a pair of my old skates. They might fit you.” The skates were a little big, but when Riley stuffed newspaper in the toes, they fit. Craig couldn’t stop smiling. He didn’t want to take them off, but he had to so he could walk to the lake. Riley and Liz went with him. They carried their hockey sticks and a wooden chair. Hardly had they got to the lake when Craig put his skates back on and Riley helped him onto the ice. Paragraph 1: Then she put his hands on the back of the chair. ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________

阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要(2017宁波模拟) Many Chinese students have studied English for approximately ten years, but most of them cannot even speak English correctly or fluently. In my opinion, there are several obstacles that have caused this to happen. The main obstacle is fear! Another is the habit of mentally translating from Chinese to English and then to change these thoughts into spoken words and sentences. Many of these difficulties are caused by the way Chinese people study and learn the language. We must learn to speak as a child does. When we are learning a second language we need to remember how we learned our native language. Learning to understand and speak a language is one of the first skills a child develops. How does a child learn the language? He listens for a time and then he tries to repeat the words. Parents give great praise for the smallest effort and slightest improvement. Therefore, the child develops courage and is excited about learning. It takes a long time before he knows anything about grammar, spelling or formal sentence structures. As for language teachers, they should avoid criticism and be very encouraging and generous with praise. Criticism or pointing out faults too often causes students to lose self-confidence and develop a fear of speaking. The best way to motivate a student is using praise. The most important aspect of speaking is having good self-esteem. Self-esteem is how you feel about yourself. When most Chinese people are asked how their English is, or they are told their English is very good, they immediately respond by saying, "Oh my English is very poor." If you say this to yourself often enough, you will believe it. When someone compliments(称赞)you, just say "thank you". __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ 共()词

Many families that were making the inquiries for full-time home tutors, Spriggs said, were either travelling so frequently that sending their children to one school was impractical and others did not want their children to go into boarding school. Home tutoring is nothing new, and many tuition firms also offer extra tutoring services to families wanting their children to have a little extra help learning ahead of entrance exams at competitive private schools in the U.K., such as Harrow, St. Pauls or Eton. "We always make it clear to parents that we will only offer full-time home schooling for a year though," Spriggs explained. "Any more than a year and children start to lose out on what a school environment can give them, such as social skills and that vital interaction they need – although we try to mitigate that anyway in our home tutoring with sports clubs of museum trips as part of the teaching program." Spriggs said that the costs of hiring a full-time tutor would exceed the fees of a top boarding school, which usually charge around £35,000 ($54,400) a year. Some families employ two full-time tutors, one to cover humanities and the other to cover science and maths. Devising an educational plan for youngsters in these situations is not a quick process, however, taking up to six weeks to plan, Spriggs said, with a tutor being matched to the child to ensure they are compatible.
