Recycling is a key component of modern waste management.Recyclable materials include many kinds of glass, paper, metal, plastic, textiles, and electronics. Although similar in effect, the composting or other reuse of biodegradable (生物可降解的) waste—such as food or garden waste—is not typically considered recycling. Materials to be recycled are either brought to a collection center or picked up from the roadside, then sorted, cleaned, and reprocessed into new materials which can be used to produce new products.Step 4 Reading1. Paper, plastics, glass, and cans make up more than half of the garbage. Food waste makes up another large portion. People in the United States use millions of glass bottles and metal cans every day. Though they make our life more convenient, they bring much pollution. Many of them simply become garbage while they should have been recycled to make new things.美国大多数家庭每年扔掉近三千公斤的垃圾。
