But “How are you?”is also a very unusual question. It’s a question that often doesn’t need an answer. The person who asks“How are you?”hopes to hear the answer“Fine”,even if the person’s friend isn’t fine. The reason is that “How are you?”isn’t really a question and “Fine”isn’t really an answer. They are simply other ways of sayi ng“Hello”or “Hi”.Sometimes, people also don’t say exactly what they mean. For example, when someone Asks “Do you agree?”,the other person might think,“No, I disagree.I think you’re Wrong...”But it isn’t very polite to disagree so strongly,so the other person might say“I’m not sure.”It’s a nicer way to say that you don’t agree with someone.People also don’t say exactly what they are thinking when they finish talking with other people. For example, many talks over the phone finish when one person say “I’ve to go now.”Often, the person who wants to hang up gives andexcuse:“Someone’s at the door.”“Something is burning on the stove.”The excuses might be real,or not. Perhaps the person who wants to hang up simply doesn’t want totalk any more, but it isn’t polite to say that. The excuse is more polite, and it doesn’t hurt the other person.Whether they are greeting each other, talking about an idea,of finishing a talk, people don’t say exactly that they are thinking. It’s an important way that people try to be nice to each other, and it’s part of the game of language.( )1.When a person in America asks“How are you?”,he or she wants to hear“”A.How are you?B.HelloC.I don’t know.D.Fine( )2.When a person disagree with someone,it is polite to say“”A.You are wrong.I disagree.B.I’m not sure.C.I’m sure I disagree.D.No, I disagree.( )3.A polite way to finish talk is to say“”A.You have to go now.B.I want to hang up.C.I have to go now.D.I don’t want to talk any mo re.( )4.When a person says“I’ve to go now.Someone’s at the door.”,the person may be________..A.giving an excuseB.hurting someone’s feelingC.illD.asking you a question( )5.The rule of the game of language is probably .A.“Always say what you mean”B.“Don’t disagree with people.”C.“Never say exactly what you’re thinking.”D.“Be polite.”BI’ve loved my mother’s desk since I was just tall enough to sit above the top of is Mother sat wriging letters.

How do so many people move about the city on their way to work and school? So, we should know something about its transport. In New York you can travel about the city by subway, bus, taxi and car. The subway runs on the railroad lines under the city. It crosses the city at different points and goes to all parts of the city. Traveling by subway is the fastest way to get around the city. The second way to travel around the city is by public bus. It's a slower way to travel. This is because the bus moves in road traffic which is often heavy. You can also travel around the city by taxi. This is the most expensive way, but the taxi will take you to the very place you wish to go to. If traffic is heavy, the taxi will be slow. During the mornings and afternoons, there is the "rush hour". This is the time when the traffic is very heavy with people going to and from work. The last way to get around New York is using your own car. Why green? Plants are green, and without them the earth wouldn't be such a lovely home for us human beings.Sometimes people call ours a " throw-away society". That means we are always throwing away old things and buying new ones. Many times, if you no longer need something, someone else just might need it. For example, if your brother is old enough not to play with his plastic bike, why not give it to another family who has a little kid so that they don't need to buy one? And one less large plastic toy doesn't need to be produced. Recycling has never been easier. Many organizations will pick it up right in front of your house and sometowns even require〔要求〕it. Tell your mom or dad you want to become " Chief of Recycling" for your family. Now that you know what things you can recycle, find a place to keep them. Make sure you encourage everyone in your house to think whether things can be reused or recycled before they're thrown away.Try to grow something yourself. Almost everyone likes traveling. But next time before you travel around the world, take a look at your own backyard. Is there a place where you could plant a tree or put in a little fruit or vegetable garden? If so,get there and get your hands dirty. Then you can watch with pride as your tree takes root, and your garden plants grow into big plants full of ripe, red tomatoes or tiny, juicy blueberries. Who knew being green would taste so good?义务一将划线局部more than just a color 译为汉语。

There are many wetlands(湿地) in China and some of them have become the world ‘s important wetlands. The Chinese Yellow Sea Wetlands are among them. They are in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. They are home for many different kinds of birds and animals. The world’s largest Milu Deer Nature Reserve(自然保护区) is in them. More than 700 milu deer live freely there. There are not many red-crowned cranes in the world, but every winter you can see some in the Red-crowned Cranes Nature Reserve in the Yellow Sea Wetlands. The temperature in the wetlands is usually neither too high nor too low. There is a lot of rain and sunshine, too. They are really good places for wildlife(野生生物)。
Offering food and home for some special kinds of animals and birds is not the only reason why we need to protect wetlands. Wetlands are important because they also prevent flood. But some people want to change the wetlands to make more space for farms and buildings. This means there will be less and less space for wildlife.Luckily, more and more people are beginning to realize the important of wetlands and wildlife. Every year, on February 2nd, many activities are held to tell people more about wetlands.

Everybody knows what Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison did, but Faraday’s accomplishments (成就)aren’t as well known as theirs.Faraday was born on September 22, 1791, in England. He received little schooling, and began working at a bookshop when he was 14. He soon became interested in science, and at the age of 21, he became an assistant of a famous chemist. In his early years of research, Faraday worked more with chemistry. However, none of his findings in Chemistry can compare with his discoveries in electricity. Faraday’s biggest breakthrough (突破)in electricity was his invention of the electric motor. He began working with magnets and discovered that if a magnet were held fixed, a wire would rotate(旋转)around it. This was the basis for all motors that we use today.Faraday also began working with ways to generate(生产)electricity. He discovered that an electric current would be produced if a magnet passed through a loop of wire. This is the basis for generators that used to produce electricity. It is said to be the biggest breakthrough in electricity inthe 1800s, and is know as electromagnetic induction effect(电池感应)It took Faraday most of his life to work with science, but he wasn’t a very bright mathematician.
