The Little Prince by Antoinede Saint-Exupéry Antoinede Saint-Exupéry(29 June 1900– 31 July 1944), the author of The Little Prince, was born in Lyon,France. He was a writer, poet, journalist, and pioneering pilot. But he said he first was a pilot. He devoted himself to flying ,traveling and writing, which gained him the frame.Much of Saint-Exupéry's work is inspired by his experiences as a pilot, he often explored life and civilization while flying. His every work is thought-provoking. And his works are not difficult tounderstand but they are profound and contain philosophicalsignificance. This we can see quite clearly in The Little Prince. This is a book of tale which tells us a trip of a little prince whose planet is just a bit bigger than him. During the trip on earth ,the little prince met the narrator, who is a pilot,in the desert and asked narrator to draw a sheep for him. They feel like old friends at the first meeting. The narrator think the little prince can understand him ,not like grown-ups are sophisticated and not creative. The little prince tell the narrator baobab trees are constantly trying to grow and overrun the surface of his planet. And he falls in love with a mysterious rose, but he leave her at his planet alone because the rose takes advantages of him. The prince has since visited six other asteroids, each of which was inhabited by a foolish, narrow-minded adult which the princeconsidered strange, including a king with no subjects; a conceited man, who believed himself the most admirable person on his planet; a tippler who drank to forget the shame of being a tippler; a businessman who endlessly counted the stars and absurdly claimed to own them all; a lamplighter who extremely tired but still relighted a lamp every single minute; and an elderly geographer, so wrapped up in theory that he never actually explored the world that he claimed to be mapping. When the geographer asked the prince to describe his home, the prince mentioned the rose, and the geographer explained that he does not record "ephemeral" things, such as roses.Thegeographer recommended that the prince next visit the planetEarth.Since the prince landed in a desert, he met a yellow snake, adesert flower, a whole row of rosebushes and a fox who asked the prince tamed him. The little learned a lot from fox. He knew the importance of building a relationship. And he must pay for the relationship and take responsible for it.Then the relationship will become unique. From this story, we can see the author’s deep thinking about humanity. The author with the eye of children reveals the emptiness, blindness and foolishness of adults. He writes the loneliness of human beings with easy and simple words. Meanwhile, the author also expresses criticism of money and praisethe true, the good and the beautiful. With the growth of us, we gradually lose the creativity, sincerity and innocence. We have prejudice and become shortsighted. We obsess the material life and the matters of consequence and just concentrate on visible things. Nevertheless, the most important things in our life are invisible and we only can see rightly with our hearts. We should attach importance to love, friendship, and care. It is the time we waste for something that makes the things so important. We are supposed to take our responsibility as much as we could. We ought to be kind and care about people you love.。
The Little PrinceAntoine de Saint-Exupéry (29 June 1900—31 July 1944),French aviator and writer, real life hero who looked at adventure and danger with poet's eyes - sometimes from the viewpoint of a child. World War II Saint-Exupéry served as a pilot. He was shot down on a mission over France in 1944. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was born in Lyons into an old family of provincial nobility. He was educated at Jesuit schools in Montgréand when he was 15 years old. After failing his final examination at a university preparatory school, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts to study architecture. 1921 had became the turning point of his life ,he became a pilot with license ,after that he took an office job and started to write in Paris .Most of his works were about flying.《The Little Prince》is his most famous work (1943), which he also illustrated. He drew the illustration for the novel . It has become one of the classics of children's literature of the 20th century. This is a fairy tale which especially for grown-ups.The main idea “Grown-ups never understand anything for themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and for ever explaining things to them” cross the whole book. It shows the serious word in a little boy’s eyes and explained the complicated theories in a sample way. Just like the little prince said in the book “Grown-ups are so strange”. Older they were, easier to forget the essence of things. Those grown-ups only cared for the numbers and the appearance. They confused everything and got it all mixed up. But the little prince, a lonely sad boy who lived in a planet no bigger than a house knew the word well——“one sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes”.The little prince loves a rose of which just one example exists among all the millions and millions of stars, that’s enough to make him happy when he looks at the stars. But the flower’s oversensitive vanity hurts the little prince so he decided to leave the star which he lives, starts to travel. In the journey, he met a King were both an absolute monarch and kindly man who loves commanding; a vanity person who needs endless admiration; a strange drunkard just keep drinking to forget the shame of drinking; a businessman only likes calculating the astronomy number type money; a dull lamplighter keeps working all round the clock; a geographer who wrote the enormous book but never saw the word by himself. Their only common ground, in the heart fills the vanity. In the travel, the young prince discovered that, those people always does not will satisfy oneself lives, they are pursuing happiness with hardship, but actually frequently crudely happily expels from the side and don’t know what they really want. Those experiences plunged the little prince into a depression. With the advice of the geographer, finally he came to last planet——earth. In his mind, this is a peculiar planet. It’s all dry and sharp and hard. And people here have no imagination. It was happened that the little prince walked to a rose garden and saw thousands of flowers just looked like his flower. He felt unhappy, because his flower had told him she was the only one of her kind in the whole universe. Then the fox appearedand it taught him that “to create ties” is the key of “tamed”. Because of “tamed” we have special connection with the one we cared for. “Language is the source of misunderstandings” the fox also said that.At the end of the story, the little prince back to his planet. But his loyalty to a flower impressed me most. The description of the little prince fairy tale is that not deceptive by adult world, and eventually find their own ideals. This ideal is to link everything in the universe of love, which love is missing in the world. This book is not only won the children's readers, but also loved by adults, concise language permeated the work of human beings and human civilization and deep thought. It demonstrated the irony and fantasy, truth and philosophy, making France the world's most famous and even a fairy tale novel.。
三分钟英语小王子读后感演讲镐The "Little Prince" is a timeless tale that resonates with readers of all ages, but its impact is especially profound for young readers. It's a story that teaches us the importance of looking beyond appearances to see the true essence of things. In just three minutes, I want to share how the book has touched my heart. The Little Prince's journey through different planets, each inhabited by adults with their own peculiarities, is a poignant reminder that we often lose our sense of wonder as we grow older. One of the most memorable lessons from the book is the relationship between the Little Prince and the fox. The fox teaches the prince about the meaning of 'taming' and how it creates a bond that is unique and irreplaceable. This concept is a beautiful metaphor for the connections we make in life. The book also challenges the notion of materialism, as seen through the character of the businessman who is obsessed with counting stars. It's a critique of a society that values possessions over experiences and relationships. The Little Prince's sadness when he realizes he must return to his own planet is a reminder of the bittersweet nature of life. It's a reminder to cherish every moment and every connection we make.In conclusion, "The Little Prince" is a book that speaks to the child in all of us. It's a gentle reminder to keep our hearts open to love, friendship, and the simple joys of life, even as we navigate the complexities of adulthood. It's a story that I believe will continue to inspire and enlighten readers for generations to come.。
A Report on The little PrinceThis is a fairy tale for all and a sad story of the word`s most.According to my limited ability of reading,I choose to read a easy English book.As many other fairy tales, the out line of The little Prince is not very complex. But now, after reading this fairy tale,I feel that it is a correct choose. To me,I have gone a soul journey.<The little Prince> is a quite simple tale which is for the grown-ups and grown-up----Antoine.It tells us what is the true love, what is the responsibility. In the tale, it makes me feel fully move of the pure love from the little prince for his rose.Because people pursue the power, the money and so on crazily in the adult world, which lets them forget the most important and essential thing of live.<The little Prince> narrates a story about a lonely and sad child.he lives on a little star. The novel is written in the first person. In the Sahara Desert, the narrator meets the little prince who comes from a planet which is away from the earth. The narrator knows something about the prince and his planet from their conversations. He likes watching sunset. There’s a rose on his planet and he spends much time looking after it.Because of quarrelling with the rose, he has escaped from his tiny plant. In that case,he left his own plant and took an exploration at some neighbor asteroids. Then he visits the earth.,and here He meetsdifferent kinds of people, which includes a king,a conceited man.To him,all men are subjects. For what the king fundamentally insisted upon was that his authority should be respected. He meets a tippler,a businessman who only likes calculating the astronomy number typemoney,a lamplighter and a geographer. From these people,he gets a conclusion that the grown-ups are very odd.Following the instruction of the geographer,he descends in the Sahara on the earth.Traveling on the earth, the little prince, who sees a garden of five-thousand roses,is overcome with astonishment and sadness,as he considers his rose is unique in the universe before. He meets a fox, a railway switch and a merchant. At the anniversary day of his descent of the earth, rejecting the pilot`s advice,he goes back to his own plant by bite of a snake.I have ever remembered he said "It`s too far.I can not carry this body with me.It`s too heavy. He tells his friend, the pilot, he must be responsible for his rose.So he has to go back.At the end the author does not tell us the ending directly.Maybe it`s more significant for us to imagine, and for more think over.I like the fundamental key, which is tender and innocent and full of philosophic theory. It is also sad and mysterious.Let`s talk about the author,Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.He has double identity:a pilot and a writer.Through his own life,he likes adventure and freedom. He is the vanguard who uses plane todelivery mails to the high mountains and desert.what he loves through his life is writing, which he can explore the lonely soul. His representative work is <The little Prince> .So far, this book`s circulation has reached more than five hundred million copies around the world and it is known as the best book which it`s reading rate is second only to the Bible.Antoine de Saint-Exupéry`s work can be called thought and action of portraiture record of his whole life. He is looking forward to the daybreak in the darkness, and attracted toward the stop in the disorderly clouds, and searching for his own star in the bright sky--the joyful of life.Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was lost in a flying task in 1944.And then he became a mystery. His works became more mysterious due to his missing. However, after I had read this novel, I was immersed into thought. There isn’t a complicated plot but some short paragraphs. I could find several viewpoints of the author from this novel:About Adults and ChildrenThe little prince couldn’t understand adults. The adults are described as people who are lack of imagination. The shortcomings of adults are reflected by five adults living on five asteroids: The King, the conceited man, the Drunkard, the businessman and theGeographer. They enjoy everything they own, but actually they have nothing! For instance, the king likes to order others to do what they would do. The author enlarges adults’ shortcomings and makes them ridiculous. This sets people thinking: which one of them I am?In the author’s eye, only children are ones who really know the purpose of living. As the switchman says, the adults are on the train never satisfied with where they are and don’t know that they are after. Only chi ldren are “flattening their noses against the windowpanes.” The original curiosity lets them enjoy the scenery with heart. One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye. So the children are lucky.About Rose and FoxAs a fairy tale, there’s some elements of love in the novel. The little prince falls in love with the rose. The vain rose asks for a screen and a glass globe. The little prince follows her demands. Also the rose devotes her fragrance and radiance to the planet. When reaching the earth, he finds a garden with 5,000 roses. He feels upset for he is not a great prince at all and his rose is not unique. Then, he meets a fox. The fox tells him that his rose is unique because she is the only one he loves. Also, the fox asks him to tame him. Apparently, the fox loves the prince.I love the sentence: “The grain, which is also golden, will bring me back the thought of you.”If you love someone, he or she will be unique in your world. Nothing can replace it.Besides, I’m deeply moved by the fox. He knows he can’t be together with the prince who is from another planet. But he wants a memory with him. The fox cries the moment the prince has to leave. Tame means responsibility. If I had a chance to choose, I would want to be the fox, watching the dark sky decorated with stars and recollect the happy time we spent together. That’s all I want. Most of all, I`m deeply moved by this book.Eventually, I know why this book can be so famous all over the world--because of the beauty of human-being, the innocence of children and the desire to be loved. The little prince said "But the eyes are blind. One must look with the heart...". So a lot of surface phenomenon is the deceiver and we need to perceive. The little prince said "One runs the risk of weeping a little, if one lets himself be tamed...". So as you fall in love, always unavoidably will be hurt. The little prince said "I ought to have guessed all the affection that lay behind her poor little strategems.Flowers are so inconsistent! But I was too young to know how to love her...." So I can`t stop asking that why two loved always hurt each other? The little prince said "It is just as it is with the flower. If you loved a flower that lives on a star, it is sweet to look at the sky at night. All the stars are a-bloom with flowers...". So I guess this is the beauty of falling in love with a person. The little prince said "You know--my flower...I am responsible for her. And she is so weak! She is so naive! She has four thorns, of no use at all, to protect herself against all the world...". So I know love is not only the love, but also the responsibility.I learn much from this fairy tale. The ending of this story is stilla mystery to all the readers.Recently I read an article which says that to be a child is the most fortunate career, because you can say whatever you want to say and cry whatever you want to cry and don`t have to work. I guess every grown-up has a child settled in the bottom of their heart. We all have the desire to pursue freedom and dream. And this story make me think about what should I pursue.Sometimes I think everyone has his own planet, like the little prince. On that planet lives what he loves and cares about. Whether your life is happy or not, depends on what you care about. If you care too much about gains, there will be no flowers on your planet. We adults pay more attention to the result, so we always feeldepressed. We never happy just because of a sweet candy like a child.I hope everyone have the chance to read this story, especially those grown-ups. I wish I can be more simple and purer with the time passing away, and learn how to love someone, how to care about something, how to believe others. I think I will love the world we live, and I will love my parents and friends more, and I will cherish all I have had. This is our calling in this century.I strongly recommend this book. Read it, and you will find what you dream of and what should you cherish now.I dream that one day I can see the sunset with the little prince.。

Introduction towards the book’s contentThe Little Price is so readable suitable for people from 8 to 88 that has been translated into more than 150 languages, which has been known as the best readable book for our human beings and published more than 200 million versions till now, the number just next to the Bible. The Little Price told us a beautiful but sad story, which occurred in a boundless, dreaming like desert ___Sahara. Here a charming, mysterious blond boy came to the life of the pilot (or me). The Little prince whowas a depressed, crystal pure boy hailed from a planet, or more accurate from Asteroid B-612 (in chapter 5). He was fond of asking questions, never let a question go once he had asked it, but unwilling to respond others’ questions. He asked me to draw him a sheep, but since I was a child, I never learned to draw anything, except boas from the outside and the inside. In the first four days I knew all that his life from the sheep: I knew there is a kind of plant named as baobabs which could destroy his whole planet if he doesn’t pull them up immediately. Once a lazy man who had neglected three little such bushes resulted into a catastrophe: all his planet was occupied by the three huge baobabs. On the fifth day, it seemed that everything came to light about my Little Prince. He escaped from his planet because of affection-involvement with his flower, a proud rose. Before his departure, he carefully cleaned his volcanoes, pulled up the last little baobabs. All the task seemed so precious to him. When he watered the flowers he was very close to tears. But finally he left as he had decided to go away. He visited all his neighborhood planets. The first one was dwelt by a wise king, who want him to be a Minister of Justice. The little prince replied: to judge who, as there was no subjects to judge ? The king answered: to judge yourself and continued: “that is the most difficult thing of all. It is much more difficult to judge oneself than to judge others. If you succeed in judging yourself rightly, then you are indeed a man of true wisdom.” This visitmade him feel the grown-ups are so strange. The second one was resided by a conceited man who always asked to appreciate him, and when receiving admire, he raised his hat in a modest salute, which action made the little prince feel the grown-ups so odd.A tippler who lived in the third planet indulged himself into drinking, sitting silently in front of a collection of empty bottles and also a collection of full bottles. The tippler just made himself without feelings, s o that he wouldn’t be shamed of drinking. The little prince thought a weird guy again and continued his journey.A businessman owned the fourth planet, who kept counting when said “Good morning to the little prince. The businessman who was concerned with matter of consequence just had three times being interrupted since he lived in the planet fifty-four years ago, so he disliked to be disturbed. He just counted the little stars which discovered by him first and belonged to him accordingly. The little prince was puzzled what good it do the businessman to own the stars and found owning a flower may be just enough for him.The fifth planet which was the smallest of all, just had enough room for a street lamp and lamplighter. In the eye of the little prince it may be absurd, as where there was nothing else, except the street lamp and thelamplighter. But it was not as ridiculous as the king, the conceited man, the tippler, the business man. For at least the lamplighter’s job to some extent had some meaning to light the star. So the little prince respectfully saluted the lamplighter when he arrived on the planet. The sixth planet which was ten times larger than the last one dwelt an old gentleman who was a geographer and had written a mass volume of books. the old geographer only concerned about matter of consequence, such as the ocean, the mountain, and will never recorded a flower which just the little prince mattered. Just the old gentleman recommend the little prince to visit the planet of the earth and the little boy left thinking of his flowers. Then he came to the Earth, where is so big with 111 kings, 7,500,000 tipplers, 900,000 businessmen, and 7,000 geographers. He arrived in Africa, first he met a snake, then a fox, a switchman, a merchant, and the pilot (me). Just on the earth where made the little prince missed his flower, his volcanoes, he made a decision to return to his planet at last.3.The comments about this magic book(1) People who will find its meaningful and time worthy to read this bookI spent some time to think about why this book is so popular is because of the wisdom between the lines which is suitable for adults and children as well. Here I would like to catalog the reader into two groups: one is story-interested group who may just be absorbed by the great imagination, the other is wisdom-oriented who just want to seek virtue of wisdom. I belong to the later.(2)the virtues suggested by the bookAfter reading, I just not only feel fun, but the more I get is the spiritual wise hints included in the lines: eg. the story of three baobobs, which told us little thing can cause consequence, so be careful with every thing. And the king’s words have made a great impression on me too, who let us clear why some dictator finally fell down; here are the wise principles said by the king: “One must require from each other on the duty which each one can perform; accepted authority rests first of all on reason (被接受的权威首先建立在理智上.). I have the right to require obedience because my orders are rea sonable.”(3) characters analyzingThe little prince had a great affection with his flower, maybe I think just the author is a lonely, but full of feeling man. The little prince is so crystal pure as the shining stars in the sky which compared the ridiculous human beings who are hustling and bustling everyday to pursue fameand rank, which made the little prince confused, and feel odd towards the grown-ups. From the book I think we should let our children be children, never intend to kill their imagina tion, don’t drive them into the world of adult feelings, just because they are naive which is a great treasure of our human beings. And adults should change the role before judging the kids.To make a long story short, the essential of the book is its love in the lines, just as the little prince loved his flower. If you fill in love with a flower, you would feel so sweet at night in a planet where has nothing but you and the flower. I hope we would live as the stars, pure, and crystal clean.黄绪平Guizhou University of Finance and EconomicsOct. 2016。
A Report on The Little Prince蒋润鹏13英3 2013131228The Little Prince (French: Le Petit Prince), first published in 1943, is a novella, the most famous work of the French aristocrat, writer, poet and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry(1900–1944). This novel is the 3rd most-translated book in the world. The narrator first explains his experience when he was young. He drew a picture of a boa constrictor with an elephant digesting in its stomach. However, no grown-ups can figure out his pictures. So he don’t draw any pictures.W hen he grow up, he has become as a pilot now. And one day, he has his plane crashed in the Sahara desert, where he come across the little prince. The narrator show his first picture to the little prince, and he interpret it correctly. The narrator then draws the prince a sheep. And after trying many times, the prince finally satisfies with one of his drawings. Then narrator attempts to repair his plane, the little prince recounts the story of his life. the prince describes his planet and his life. He has three volcanoes, two of them are active, and the rest one is extinct. He is fond of the sunset, and he can watch the sunset for 44 times due to the small size of the planet. The most important is his love of a rose. The prince nourished the rose and listened to her when she told him to make a screen or glass globe to protect her from the cold. And he begin to feel that the rose just want to took advantages from him. Then he started his journey to other planets. The prince has since visited six other asteroids, each of which was inhabited by a foolish, narrow-minded adult, including: a king with no subjects; a conceited man, who believed himself the most admirable person on his otherwise uninhabited planet; a drunkard who drank to forget the shame of being a drunkard; a businessman who endlessly counted the stars and absurdly claimed to own them all; a lamplighter who mindlessly extinguished and relighted a lamp every single minute; and an elderly geographer, so wrapped up in theory that he never actually explored the world that he claimed to be mapping. And the geographer recommend that the prince to visit the planet earth. The prince landed in the desert in the desert, and seeing nobody. He then met a yellow snake that claimed to have the power to return him to his home. He encountered a whole row of rosebushes, which brought him a thought that his rose is not unique. He next came across a fox, who desired to be tamed and explain the his rose is actually unique. Because he love his rose, although so many roses in the bushes, no one can find their true love. The prince tamed the rose, and he should be responsible to her. He then tamed the fox.At the present moment, it is the eighth day after the narrator’s plane-crash, and fortunately they find a well. The narrator then find the prince talking to the snack, discussing his return home and eager to see his rose again. The prince says goodbye to the narrator and tells the narrator not to be upset. Then he walks away, the snake bite him, and he falls down. The narrator find no his body, and requests that anyone encounters the little prince should contact him.The narrator is a pilot and the story teller. From his experience we can find he is also a childlikeperson. But the reality push him to act like a grown-up. He follows the grown-ups’ step and keep a innocent mind. from this story we may guess the little prince is the young narrator to some degree. Or we can consider the little prince as the narrator’s single and lonely mind. the narrator speak out his heart voice by the little prince’s experience. The little prince is the main character, and this novel named by the little prince. He is a pure child with many mysteries. We can figure it out from his talking to the grown-ups, he is confuses about many adults behaviors, the king, the merchant or the geographer, they all don’t know what are they really in need of. From his perspective, we have an objective view of people. Most people are greed and ambitious. He is the only resident in his asteroid, he is in love with a rose. The journey is a journey to find responsibility and true love. The prince learns that he should be responsible to the rose. The rose is where the prince’s heart lies. Wherever the prince travels to he will keep mis sing her. Although he doubt whether his rose is unique, but he finally believe that it is. Because he tamed her, and has responsibility for her.The snake is the first and the last creature that the prince meet in the earth. In their first meeting, when the snake told him he can take him to his planet. And at last the snake takes the prince away, the narrator don’t know where the prince is, but he chooses to believe that the little prince return to his planet. We can associate the snake to the Eden’s snake, which creates a mysterious atmosphere. From this, we may find out that snake is an mysterious creature in the western culture. The fox tamed by the prince is a friend of him. In addition, he is also the prince’s teacher. It is him who let the prince realize his responsibility for the rose, and him who teaches the prince that it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, and what is essential is invisible to the eye. From this plot we can also find out the differences between Chinese culture and western culture. In Chinese, we have a deep perception that foxes represent cunning, but this novel shows quite a different idea of foxes. In conclusion, This novel tells a story in a childlike way. With watercolour illustrations in plain words, philosophicaldialogues and valid descriptions by the author, we can easily understand this novel. The Little Prince makes several observations about life and human nature. This novel is for both children and grown-ups. In my point of view, everyone should read this novel at least two times, first in childhood, and second in adulthood. This novel send many messages. The fox's messages are arguably the book's most famous quotations because they deal with human relationships. One of the most important thematic messages I like best is you become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.。
ABookReportonTheLittlePrince(5篇材料)第一篇:A Book Report on The Little PrinceA Book Report on The Little PrinceThe Little Prince is a fairy tale written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry(1900.6.29-1944.7.31), a pilot and writer who was born in France.Antoine de Saint-Exupéry enjoys adventure and freedom. He devotes his whole life to French aviation undertaking. When serving for aviation company, he sets up many new air lines and finishes his tasks carefully. In 1944, he is missing during a task, then it becomes a mysterious legend. He has many works, such as the Little Prince, Southern Mail, The Wisdom of the Sends, Letter to a Hostage, Night Flight, A Sense of Life, Wartime Writings, Flight to Arras and Wind, Sand and Stars. He also wins some awards, such as French Fermi prize for Literature, L’Institut de France prize for Literature and so on.And The Little Prince even has a reputation of the book only second to Bible. The little prince is a lovely boy who lives in a planet which is a little bigger than him.The only one to company with him is a rose which he loves. But her vanity hurts the little prince, then he leaves the planet and starts his journey. He visits six planets one after another. What he sees and hears makes him very sad, he feel that the adults are ridiculous and abnormal.Obeying to the advice of geographer, the lonely little prince comes to the earth. And on the earth, he meets the pilot. He finds that human beings lack im agination, they can only repeat other’s words just like a parrot. He misses his little rose on his planet more and more. Then, he encounters a fox, and he conquers the fox patiently and makes friend with it.The fox tells him a secret, that eyes can’t see the nature of the world, we can only penetrateanything by our soul, as a gift for the little prince. With this secret, the little prince and the pilot find the water of life together. Finally, the little prince let the a snake bite him and he goes back to his planet.Or sadly, in fact, he dies on the earth. In fact, at the first, I don’t think it is an attracting novel. However, when I read it the second time, I find that it contains a lot of deeper meanings.Childhood is the period that we look forward to miracle, chase for warmth and full of dreams. On the contrast, the adults seem to be less active, vanity and superficial.Cildren should be the model of the adults. The adults are lonely. In order to possess wealth and authority, they forget their lives’ true needs and value. They lose their valuable purity and imagination. The novel also tells me that we should take our responsibilities of anything. Now that we choose something, we have the obligation to do it well.As in the novel, the little prince should take responsibilities on his rose and fox.The little prince always ask various questions, and it always makes him upset. But he continue to do it, he keeps looking for the truth of life.We all should learn from him, keeping a pure heart and chasing for our dreams.。
Little Prince(《小王子》英文版)Written By Antoine de Saiot-Exupery (1900~1944)PrefaceTo Leon Werthask the indulgence of the children who may read this book for dedicating it to a grown-up. I have a serious reason: he is the best friend I have in the world. I have another reason: this grown-up understands everything, even books about children. I have a third reason: he lives in France where he is hungry and cold. He needs cheering up. If all these reasons are not enough, I will dedicate the book to the child from whom this grown-up grew. All grown-ups were once children-- although few of them remember it. And so I correct my dedication:To Leon Werthwhen he was a little boy- we are introduced to the narrator, a pilot, and his ideas about grown-upsOnce when I was six years old I saw a magnificent picture in a book, called True Stories from Nature, about the primeval forest. It was a picture of a boa constrictor in the act of swallowing an animal. Here is a copy of the drawing. In the book it said: Boa constrictors swallow their prey whole, without chewing it. After that they are not able to move, and they sleep through the six months that they need for digestion.I pondered deeply, then, over the adventures of the jungle. And after some work with a colored pencil I succeeded in making my first drawing. My Drawing Number One. It looked like this:I showed my masterpiece to the grown-ups, and asked them whether the drawing frightened them. But they answered: Frighten? Why should any one be frightened by a hat?My drawing was not a picture of a hat. It was a picture of a boa constrictor digesting an elephant. But since the grown-ups were not able to understand it, I made another drawing: I drew the inside of the boaconstrictor, so that the grown-ups could see it clearly. They always need to have things explained. My Drawing Number Two looked like this:The grown-ups‘response, this time, was to advise me to lay aside my drawings of boa constrictors, whether from the inside or the outside, and devote myself instead to geography, history, arithmetic and grammar. That is why, at the age of six, I gave up what might have been a magnificent career as a painter. I had been disheartened by the failure of my Drawing Number One and my Drawing Number Two. Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.So then I chose another profession, and learned to pilot airplanes. I have flown a little over all parts of the world; and it is true that geography has been very useful to me. At a glance I can distinguish China from Arizona. If one gets lost in the night, such knowledge is valuable. In the course of this life I have had a great many encounters with a great many people who have been concerned with matters of consequence.I have lived a great deal among grown-ups. I have seen them intimately, close at hand. And that hasn‘t much improved my opinion of them.Whenever I met one of them who seemed to me at all clear-sighted, Itried the experiment of showing him my Drawing Number One, which I have always kept. I would try to find out, so, if this was a person of true understanding. But, whoever it was, he, or she, would always say: That is a hat. Then I would never talk to that person about boa constrictors, or primeval forests, or stars. I would bring myself down to his level. I would talk to him about bridge, and golf, and politics, and neckties. And the grown-up would be greatly pleased to have met such a sensible man.- the narrator crashes in the desert and makes the acquaintance of the little princeSo I lived my life alone, without anyone that I could really talk to, until I had an accident with my plane in the Desert of Sahara, six years ago. Something was broken in my engine. And as I had with me neither a mechanic nor any passengers, I set myself to attempt the difficult repairs all alone. It was a question of life or death for me: I had scarcely enough drinking water to last a week. The first night, then, I went to sleep on the sand, a thousand miles from any human habitation. I was more isolated than a shipwrecked sailor on araft in the middle of the ocean. Thus you can imagine my amazement, at sunrise, when I was awakened by an odd little voice. It said:If you please-- draw me a sheep! What!Draw me a sheep!I jumped to my feet, completely thunderstruck. I blinked my eyes hard.I looked carefully all around me....上一篇英语:12种人生感悟下一篇英语:心灵鸡汤系列查看更多关于心灵鸡汤的文章网友同时还浏览了:Words to Live by 生活的忠告写情书的艺术V alentines Day(浪漫情人节)Priest V alentine relates his sSay I Love you in different laRead love code by means of cousoulLittle Prince(《小王子》英文版)And I saw a most extraordinary small person, who stood there examining me with great seriousness. Hereyou may see the best potrait that, later, I was able to make of him. But my drawing is certainly very much less charming than its model. That, however, is not my fault. The grown-ups discouraged me in my painter‘s career when I was six years old, and I never learned to draw anything, except boas from the outside and boas from the inside. Now I stared at this sudden apparition with my eyes fairly starting out of my head in astonishment. Remember, I had crashed in the desert a thousand miles from any inhabited region. And yet my little man seemed neither to be straying uncertainly among the sands, nor to be fainting from fatigue or hunger or thirst or fear. Nothing about him gave any suggestion of a child lost in the middle of the desert, a thousand miles from any human habitation. When at last I was able to speak, I said to him: But-- what are you doing here? And in answer he repeated, very slowly, as if he were speaking of a matter of great consequence: If you please-- draw me a sheep...When a mystery is too overpowering, one dare not disobey. Absurd as it might seem to me, a thousand miles from any human habitation and in danger of death, I took out of my pocket a sheet of paper and myfountain-pen. But then I remembered how my studies had been concentrated on geography, history, arithmetic, and grammar, and I told the little chap (a little crossly, too) that I did not know how to draw. He answered me: That doesn‘t matter. Draw me a sheep...But I had never drawn a sheep. So I drew for him one of the two pictures I had drawn so often. It was that of the boa constrictor from the outside. And I was astounded to hear the little fellow greet it with, No, no, no! I do not want an elephant inside a boa constrictor. A boa constrictor is a very dangerous creature, and an elephant is very cumbersome. Where I live, everything is very small. What I need is a sheep. Draw me a sheep. So then I made a drawing. He looked at it carefully, then he said: No. This sheep is already very sickly. Make me another. So I made another drawing. My friend smiled gently and indulgenty. Y ou see yourself, he said, that this is not a sheep. This is a ram. It has horns. So then I did my drawing over once more. But it was rejected too, just like the others. This one is too old. I want a sheep that will live a long time.By this time my patience was exhausted, because I was in a hurry to start taking my engine apart. So I tossed off this drawing. And I threw out an explanation with it.This is only his box. The sheep you asked for is inside.I was very surprised to see a light break over the face of my young judge:That is exactly the way I wanted it! Do you think that this sheep will have to have a great deal of grass? Why?Because where I live everything is very small...There will surely be enough grass for him, I said. It is a very small sheep that I have given you.He bent his head over the drawing:Not so small that-- Look! He has gone to sleep...And that is how I made the acquaintance of the little prince....上一篇英语:12种人生感悟下一篇英语:心灵鸡汤系列查看更多关于心灵鸡汤的文章网友同时还浏览了:Words to Live by 生活的忠告写情书的艺术V alentines Day(浪漫情人节)Priest V alentine relates his sSay I Love you in different laRead love code by means of cousoulLittle Prince(《小王子》英文版)ank into a reverie, which lasted a long time. Then, taking my sheep out of his pocket, he buried himself in the contemplation of his treasure.Y ou can imagine how my curiosity was aroused by this half-confidence about the other planets. I made a great effort, therefore, to find out more on this subject. My little man, where do you come from? What is this ‘where I live,‘of which you speak? Where do you want to take your sheep? After a reflective silence he answered: The thing that is so good about the box you have given me is that at night he can use it as his house. That is so. And if you are good I will give you a string, too, so that you can tie him during the day, and a post to tie him to.But the little prince seemed shocked by this offer: Tie him! What aqueer idea! But if you don‘t tie him, I said, he will wander off somewhere, and get lost.My friend broke into another peal of laughter: But where do you think he would go?Anywhere. Straight ahead of him. Then the little prince said, earnestly: That doesn‘t matter. Where I live, everything is so small! And, with perhaps a hint of sadness, he added: Straight ahead of him, nobody can go very far...- the narrator speculates as to which asteroid from which the little prince cameI had thus learned a second fact of great importance: this was that the planet the little prince came from was scarcely any larger than a house! But that did not really surprise me much. I knew very well that in addition to the great planets-- such as the Earth, Jupiter, Mars, V enus-- to which we have given names, there are also hundreds of others, some of which are so small that one has a hard time seeing them through the telescope. When an astronomer discovers one of these he does not give ita name, but only a number. He might call it, for example, Asteroid 325.I have serious reason to believe that the planet from which the little prince came is the asteroid known as B-612. This asteroid has only once been seen through the telescope. That was by a Turkish astronomer, in 1909.On making his discovery, the astronomer had presented it to the International Astronomical Congress, in a great demonstration. But he was in Turkish costume, and so nobody would believe what he said.Grown-ups are like that...Fortunately, however, for the reputation of Asteroid B-612, a Turkish dictator made a law that his subjects, under pain of death, should change to European costume. So in 1920 the astronomer gave his demonstration all over again, dressed with impressive style and elegance. And this time everybody accepted his report. If I have told you these details about the asteroid, and made a note ofits number for you, it is on account of the grown-ups and their ways. When you tell them that you have made a new friend, they never ask you any questions about essential matters. They never say to you, What does his voice sound like? What games does he love best? Does he collect butterflies? Instead, they demand: How old is he? How many brothers has he? How much does he weigh? How much money does his father make? Only from these figures do they think they have learned anything about him.If you were to say to the grown-ups: I saw a beautiful house made of rosy brick, with geraniums in the windows and doves on the roof, they would not be able to get any idea of that house at all. Y ou would have to say to them: I saw a house that cost $20,000. Then they would exclaim: Oh, what a pretty house that is!Just so, you might say to them: The proof that the little prince existed is that he was charming, that he laughed, and that he was looking for a sheep. If anybody wants a sheep, that is a proof that he exists. And what good would it do to tell them that? They would shrug their shoulders, and treat you like a child. But if you said to them: The planet he came from is Asteroid B-612, then they would be convinced, and leave you in peace from their questions. They are like that. One must not hold it against them. Children should always show great forbearance toward grown-up people. But certainly, for us who understand life, figures are a matter of indifference. I should have liked to begin this story in the fashion of the fairy-tales. I should have like to say: Once upon a time there was a little prince who lived on a planet that was scarcely any bigger than himself, and who had need of a sheep...To those who understand life, that would have given a much greater air of truth to my sto...上一篇英语:12种人生感悟下一篇英语:心灵鸡汤系列查看更多关于心灵鸡汤的文章网友同时还浏览了:Words to Live by 生活的忠告写情书的艺术V alentines Day(浪漫情人节)Priest V alentine relates his sSay I Love you in different laRead love code by means of cousoulLittle Prince(《小王子》英文版)ry.For I do not want any one to read my book carelessly. I have sufferedtoo much grief in setting down these memories. Six years have already passed since my friend went away from me, with his sheep. If I try to describe him here, it is to make sure that I shall not forget him. To forget a friend is sad. Not every one has had a friend. And if I forget him, I may become like the grown-ups who are no longer interested in anything but figures...It is for that purpose, again, that I have bought a box of paints and some pencils. It is hard to take up drawing again at my age, when I have never made any pictures except those of the boa constrictor from the outside and the boa constrictor from the inside, since I was six. I shall certainly try to make my portraits as true to life as possible. But I am not at all sure of success. One drawing goes along all right, and another has no resemblance to its subject. I make some errors, too, in the littl e prince ‘s height: in one place he is too tall and in another too short. And I feel some doubts about the color of his costume. So I fumble along as best I can, now good, now bad, and I hope generally fair-to-middling.In certain more important details I shall make mistakes, also. But that is something that will not be my fault. My friend never explained anything to me. He thought, perhaps, that I was like himself. But I, alas, do not know how to see sheep through t he walls of boxes. Perhaps I am alittle like the grown-ups. I have had to grow old.- we are warned as to the dangers of the baobabsAs each day passed I would learn, in our talk, something about the little prince‘s planet, his departure from it, his journey. The information would come very slowly, as it might chance to fall from his thoughts. It was in this way that I heard, on the third day, about the catastrophe of the baobabs. This time, once more, I had the sheep to thank for it. For the little prince asked me abruptly-- as if seized by a grave doubt-- It is true, isn‘t it, that sheep eat little bushes?Y es, that is true.Ah! I am glad!I did not understand why it was so important that sheep should eat little bushes. But the little prince added:Then it follows that they also eat baobabs?I pointed out to the little prince that baobabs were not little bushes, but, on the contrary, trees as big as castles; and that even if he took a whole herd of elephants away with him, the herd would not eat up one single baobab. The idea of the herd of elephants made the little prince laugh. We would have to put them one on top of the other, he said. But he made a wise comment:Before they grow so big, the baobabs start out by being little. That is strictly correct, I said. But why do you want the sheep to eat the little baobabs? He answered me at once, Oh, come, come! , as if he were speaking of something that was self-evident. And I was obliged to make a great mental effort to solve this problem, without any assistance.Indeed, as I learned, there were on the planet where the little prince lived-- as on all planets-- good plants and bad plants. In consequence, there were good seeds from good plants, and bad seeds from bad plants. But seeds are invisible. They sleep deep in the heart of the earth‘s darkness, until some one among them is seized with the desire to awaken. Then this little seed will stretch itself and begin-- timidly at first-- to push a charming little sprig inoffensively upward toward the sun. If it is only a sprout of radish or the sprig of a rose-bush, one would let it grow wherever it might wish. But when it is a bad plant, one must destroy it as soon as possible, the very first instant that one recognizes it.Now there were some terrible seeds on the planet that was the home of the little prince; and these were the seeds of the baobab. The soil of that planet was infested with them. A baobab is something you will never, never be able to get rid of if you attend to it too late. It spreads over the entire planet. It bores clear through it with its roots. And if the planet is too small, and the baobabs are too many, they split it in pieces...It is a question of discipline, the little prince said to me later on. When you‘ve finished your own toilet in the morning, then it is time to attend to the toilet of your planet, just so, with the greatest care. Y ou must see to it that you pull up regularly all the baobabs, at the very first moment when they can be distinguished from the rosebushes which they resemble so closely in their earliest youth. It is very tedious work, the little prince added, but very easy. And one day he...上一篇英语:12种人生感悟下一篇英语:心灵鸡汤系列查看更多关于心灵鸡汤的文章网友同时还浏览了:Words to Live by 生活的忠告写情书的艺术V alentines Day(浪漫情人节)Priest V alentine relates his sSay I Love you in different laRead love code by means of cousoulLittle Prince(《小王子》英文版)said to me: Y ou ought to make a beautiful drawing, so that the children where you live can see exactly how all this is. That would be very useful to them if they were to travel some day. Sometimes, he added, there is no harm in putting off a piece of work until another day. But when it is a matter of baobabs, that always means a catastrophe. I knew a planet that was inhabited by a lazy man. He neglected three little bushes...So, as the little prince described it to me, I have made a drawing of that planet. I do not much like to take the tone of a moralist. But the danger of the baobabs is so little understood, and such considerable risks would be run by anyone who might get lost on an asteroid, that for once I am breaking through my reserve. Children, I say plainly, watch out for the baobabs! My friends, like myself, have been skirting this danger for a long time, without ever knowing it; and so it is for them that I have worked so hard over this drawing. The lesson which I pass on by this means is worth all the trouble it has cost me.Perhaps you will ask me, Why are there no other drawing in this book as magnificent and impressive as this drawing of the baobabs? The reply is simple. I have tried. But with the others I have not been successful. When I made the drawing of the baobabs I was carried beyond myself by the inspiring force of urgent necessity....上一篇英语:12种人生感悟下一篇英语:心灵鸡汤系列查看更多关于心灵鸡汤的文章网友同时还浏览了:Words to Live by 生活的忠告写情书的艺术V alentines Day(浪漫情人节)Priest V alentine relates his sSay I Love you in different laRead love code by means of cousoulLittle Prince(《小王子》英文版)uot; I cried. No, no no! I don‘t believe anything. I answered you with the first thing that came into my head. Don‘t you see-- I am very busy with matters of consequence! He stared at me, thunderstruck.Matters of consequence! He looked at me there, with my hammer in my hand, my fingers black with engine-grease, bending down over an object which seemed to him extremely ugly...Y ou talk just like the grown-ups!That made me a little ashamed. But he went on, relentlessly:Y ou mix everything up together... Y ou confuse everything...He was really very angry. He tossed his golden curls in the breeze.I know a planet where there is a certain red-faced gentleman. He has never smelled a flower. He has never looked at a star. He has never loved any one. He has never done anything in his life but add up figures. And all day he says over and over, just like you: ‘I am busy with matters of consequence!‘And that makes him swell up with pride. But he is not a man-- he is a mushroom!A what?A mushroom! The little prince was now white with rage. The flowers have been growing thorns for millions of years. For millions of years the sheep have been eating them just the same. And is it not a matter of consequence to try to understand why the flowers go to so much trouble to grow thorns which are never of any use to them? Is the warfare between the sheep and the flowers not important? Is this not of more consequence than a fat red-faced gentleman‘s sums? And if I know-- I, myself-- one flower which is unique in the world, which grows nowhere but on my planet, but which one little sheep can destroy in a single bite some morning, without even noticing what he is doing-- Oh! Y ou think that is not important! His face turned from white to red as he continued:If some one loves a flower, of which just one single blossom grows in all the millions and millions of stars, it is enough to make him happy just to look at the stars. He can say to himself, ‘Somewhere, my flower is there...‘But if the sheep eats the flower, in one moment all his stars will be darkened... And you think that is not important! He could not say anything more. His words were choked by sobbing. The night had fallen. I had let my tools drop from my hands. Of what moment now was my hammer, my bolt, or thirst, or death? On one star, one planet, my planet, the Earth, there was a little prince to be comforted.I took him in my arms, and rocked him. I said to him:The flower that you love is not in danger. I will draw you a muzzle for your sheep. I will draw you a railing to put around your flower. I will--I did not know what to say to him. I felt awkward and blundering. I did not know how I could reach him, where I could overtake him and go on hand in hand with him once more.It is such a secret place, the land of tears....上一篇英语:12种人生感悟下一篇英语:心灵鸡汤系列查看更多关于心灵鸡汤的文章网友同时还浏览了:Words to Live by 生活的忠告写情书的艺术V alentines Day(浪漫情人节)Priest V alentine relates his sSay I Love you in different laRead love code by means of cousoulLittle Prince(《小王子》英文版)prince could guess easily enough that she was not any too modest-- but how moving-- and exciting-- she was!I think it is time for breakfast, she added an instant later. So, he tended the flower. So, too, she began very quickly to torment him with her vanity-- which was, if the truth be known, a little difficult to deal with. One day, for instance, when she was speaking of her four thorns, she said to the little prince:Let the tigers come with their claws! There are no tigers on my planet, the little prince objected. And,anyway, tigers do not eat weeds.I am not a weed, the flower replied, sweetly. Please excuse me...I am not at all afraid of tigers, she went on, but I have a horror of drafts.I suppose you wouldn‘t have a screen for me?A horror of drafts-- that is bad luck, for a plant, remarked the little prince, and added to himself, This flower is a very complex creature...At night I want you to put me under a glass globe. He had taken seriously words which were without importance, and it made him very unhappy.I ought not to have listened to her, he confided to me one day. One never ought to listen to the flowers. One should simply look at them and breathe their fragrance. Mine perfumed all my planet. But I did not know how to take pleasure in all her grace. This tale of claws, which disturbed me so much, should only have filled my heart with tenderness and pity. And he continued his confidences:The fact is that I did not know how to understand anything! I ought to have judged by deeds and not by words. She cast her fragrance and her radiance over me. I ought never to have run away from her... The general, or myself?Y ou, said the little prince firmly.Exactly. One much require from each one the duty which each one can perform, the king went on. Accepted authority rests first of all on reason. If you ordered your people to go and throw themselves into the sea, they would rise up in revolution. I have the right to require obedience because my orders are reasonable. Then my sunset? the little prince reminded him: for he never forgot a question once he had asked it.Y ou shall have your sunset. And you will see how well I am obeyed. The little prince yawned. He was regretting his lost sunset. And then, too, he was already beginning to be a little bored.I have nothing more to do here, he said to the king. And it tires me to walk.Oh, but I have looked already! said the little prince, turning around to give one more glance to the other side of the planet. On that side, as on this, there was nobody at all...Then you shall judge yourself, the king answered. that is the most difficult thing of all. It is much more difficult to judge oneself than to judge others. If you succeed in judging yourself rightly, then you are indeed a man of true wisdom.Y es, said the little prince, but I can judge myself anywhere. I do not need to live on this planet.Hum! Hum! said the king. I have good reason to believe that somewhere on my planet there is an old rat. I hear him at night. Y ou can。
