Realism is a literary movement that emerged in the 19th
century and focused on depicting life as it is, without
romanticizing or idealizing it. It is characterized by its
objective portrayal of the world, its attention to detail,
and its use of everyday language. Realist writers sought to
capture the complexities of human experience and the social
and political issues of their time.
In my opinion, realism is important because it provides
a truthful and accurate representation of the world. By
depicting life as it really is, realism allows us to better
understand and relate to the experiences of others. Realist
literature can also serve as a commentary on society,
highlighting issues such as poverty, inequality, and
injustice.
An example of realism in literature is George Eliot's novel Middlemarch. The novel portrays the lives of a
diverse group of characters in a small English town,
exploring their relationships, ambitions, and struggles.
Eliot's attention to detail and her objective portrayal of
the characters and their experiences make the novel a
powerful example of realism.
