小学英语课外阅读对于英语教学来说至关重要。阅读是语言研究不可或缺的一部分，因为通过阅读，学生可以扩大视野，获取知识，巩固和提高语言知识及其运用能力。同时，阅读也可以让学生触类旁通，拓展视野，深化知识。如果开展得好，小学生英语研究的速度会加快，阅读及理解的层次会提升，研究的深度与广度也会拓展。因此，小学英语课外阅读对于学生今后的研究打下坚实的基础。
二，如何选择适合的阅读材料
阅读的乐趣是很重要的，因此选择适合的阅读材料是关键。生动、有趣、富有吸引力而又能启发心智的材料（或书籍）是最好的选择。这类书具有以下几个共同特点：一、可读性很强，让人立即产生阅读的欲望，一旦上手，就放不下来了，不会感到学英语是沉重的负担了。二、容易读，不大会产生阅读障碍。三、有助于扩大知识面，提高文化素养。

1）培养学生默读的惯。默读比出声阅读更有效，因为出声阅读受发音的影响，速度慢且易疲劳，容易干扰他人。教师应该在一开始就提醒学生不要朗读，形成默读的良好氛围。
2）培养学生成组视读的惯。小学生容易一个单词一个单词地认读，影响阅读速度和理解句子。教师应该从意群为单位开始培养学生的认读惯，逐步扩大到整句认读，以提高阅读效率。
3）培养学生猜词的惯。新课标要求学生能够通过上下文和构词法推断生词的含义。教师应该引导学生进行猜词练，鼓励学生积极阅读，避免依赖思想，提高阅读速度和智力开发。
4）培养学生阅读限时的惯。在阅读训练中，教师可以先规定阅读整篇文章的时间，并要求学生在限定时间内完成阅读。这种惯可以增强学生的时间观念，提高阅读速度。我在教学中通过小组竞赛的方式，鼓励学生在规定时间内快速准确地阅读，提高阅读效率。
