NEW YIPPEE!Yippee! is designed for very young learners (3-7 years old) and is appropriate for kindergarten and can even be used for the first grade. Both in American and British English, it consists of the Red Book, the Green Book and the Blue Book.General Characteristics:Yippee! is based on the Multiple Intelligences Theory and its aim is to help children learn English the same way that native speakers do – by listening and speaking first before they learn to read and write.Red Book:There are eight topic-based units. Each unit consists of 4 lessons.▪No letters or words / alphabet are included.▪The Student's Book and the Workbook / Fun Book are incorporated in one book to make it easier for students to use rather than having two books.▪The learner learns through listening and speaking (e.g. Unit 2, p.14).▪The vocabulary is clearly marked through illustrations (e.g. Unit 2, p.14).▪There is a variety of activities: songs, stories, listening activities, picture dictionary. ▪Stickers are also included in the Student’s Book.▪The cut-outs can be found at the back of the Student’s Book so teachers don’t have to photocopy them.▪In the first lesson, we present the vocabulary and the structures of the language through a dialogue featuring the characters of the book (e.g. Unit 2, pp.12-13).Fun activities are also included to practice the new vocabulary (e.g. Unit 2, p.13). ▪In the second lesson, we present the language through a song (e.g. Unit 2, p.14). Fun activities are also included (e.g. Unit 2, pp. 15-16).▪The third lesson, involves young learners in actually making something, which will be used in a game or a simulation, and a song (e.g. Unit 2, p.17).▪In the fourth lesson, a story is presented, through which students consolidate and revise the previous taught material (e.g. Unit 2, pp.18-20). Fun activities are also included (e.g. Unit 2, p. 21).▪At the end of the story, there is a value which is derived from each story. These values teach students good morals in their everyday life. Teachers can discuss the meaning of each value with the students in L1.▪Every two units, there is a revision lesson (e.g. pp. 22-25).▪Cross curricular activities: At the back of the Student's Book, there are eight worksheets with cross-curricular activities corresponding to each unit. Theactivities are based on school subjects appropriate for students at these age.They consolidate vocabulary and structures taught in each unit. Each worksheet is suitable for one hour lesson.Green Book:▪The main difference in this book is that we introduce eight letters (consonants).Why? Because consonants are easier than vowels. The sounds are recorded to provide aural reinforcement and phonic songs are also provided.▪The vocabulary is clearly marked through illustrations (e.g. Unit 7, p.45).▪Stickers are also included in the Student’s Book.▪There are cut-outs at the back of the Student’s Book so teachers don’t have to photocopy them.▪In the first lesson of the Student’s Book we present the vocabulary and the structures of the language through a dialogue featuring the characters of the book (e.g. Unit 7, pp.44-45).▪In the second lesson,we present the language through a song (e.g. Unit 7, p.46).▪In the third lesson, students make objects (craft activities) (e.g. Unit 7, p.47).This lesson also focuses on introducing letter recognition and the sounds of the letters. There is also a phonic song for more practice.▪In the fourth lesson, a story is presented, through which students consolidate and revise the previous taught material (e.g. Unit 7, pp.48-49).▪At the end of the story, there is a value which is derived from each story. These values teach students good morals in their everyday life. Teachers can discuss the meaning of each value with the students in L1.▪Every two units, there is a revision lesson (e.g. pp.56-57).▪There is an Extra Revision lesson every two units for extra practice (e.g. p.69). ▪There are celebration pages at the back of the Student's Book to be done at the appropriate time of the year (pp.70-71).▪Cross curricular activities: At the back of the Student's Book, there are eight worksheets with cross-curricular activities corresponding to each unit. Theactivities are based on school subjects appropriate for students at these age.They consolidate vocabulary and structures taught in each unit. Each worksheet is suitable for one hour lesson.▪Fun Book is separate. There are a lot of hands-on activities: coloring, drawing, games, puzzles, etc (e.g. Unit 7, pp. 51-55). Students can trace the letters of the alphabet for more practice (e.g. Unit 7, p.57).Blue Book:▪There are 5 lessons in each unit.▪All new vocabulary is presented through illustrations and in written form (e.g. Unit 2, p.11).▪The Alphabet is introduced as well as the sounds of the letters (e.g. Unit 2, pp.14-15).▪Stickers are also included in the Student’s Book.▪There are cut-outs at the back of the Student’s Book so teachers don’t have to photocopy them.▪In the first lesson of the Student’s Book we present the vocabulary and the structures of the language through a dialogue featuring the characters of the book (Unit 2, pp.10-11).▪In the second lesson, we present the language through a dialogue with the characters of the book. These worksheets are suitable for one hour lesson each.▪Celebration pages to be done at the appropriate time of the year.▪Interactive Whiteboard material: The whole coursebook is included in the Interactive whiteboard, as well as the vocabulary index, the Extra activities and the Celebrations. The dialogues, the songs and the stories are all animated.▪Interactive Student's CD/CD-ROM: The animated dialogues, songs and stories of the Student's Book can be found on this CD/CD-ROM. The active vocabulary and the cross-surricular activities are included, too. Print outs with the characters of the book, wallpapers, vocabulary and fun games are also provided. Students can also do karaoke. They can listen to the songs, read the lyrics on the screen, record and listen to themselves singing.▪Teacher's flashcards: There is a flashcard for every active word.
