Oceanside East andWest will start a half hour later, at 8 a.m. for their new school year.Research has shown that teenagers\' brains are often not fully awake at 6:30 a.m. Collins said the schedule, which is used to get students to school for classes that begin at 7:30 a.m., calls for some to get on buses before 6 a.m. to get to school on time. Teachers are having meetings at 6:40 a.m., which is too early, he thinks.Collins visited the high schools in Rockland and asked students when they would like classes to begin. Most of them said 8:00 a.m. "I was surprised. I thought they would have said 9:00 or 10:00," he said. The National Sleep Foundation says on its website that teenagers\' biological clocks are designed to stay up later and get up later. The Foundation called for schools to change their schedules, which means a later start as well for elementary students (小学生).We do not have enough buses to run, since all the high school and elementary school buses run almost at the same time, Collins said. He suggested, "We should buy six more buses and get six more drivers to keep the new schedule working."Elementary school classes in Rockland now start at 8:30 a.m., but will be moved to 8:45 a.m., starting in the autumn. "I know this is a problem for working parents, but we will see what we can e up with," said Jane Brown, a teacher at Bardonia Elementary School. "Anyway, I believe if students get more sleep they\'ll be more ready to learn when classes start," she added.语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。

Oceanside East and West will start a half hour later, at 8 a.m. for their new school year.Research has shown that teenagers' brains are often not fully awake at 6:30 a.m. “I was surprised. I thought they would have said 9:00 or 10:00,”he said. The National Sleep Foundation says on its website that teenagers' biological clocks are designed to stay up later and get up later. The Foundation called for schools to change their schedules, which means a later start as well for elementary students (小学生).We do not have enough buses to run, since all the high school and elementary school buses run almost at the same time, Collins said. He suggested, “We should buy six more buses and get six more drivers to keep the new schedule working.”Elementary school classes in Rockland now start at 8:30 a.m., but will be moved to 8:45 a.m., starting in the autumn. “I know this is a problem for working parents, but we will see what we can come up with,”said Jane Brown, a teacher at Bardonia Elementary School. “Anyway, I believe if students get more sleep they'll be more ready to learn when classes start,” she added.语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。

BIn addition to showing support for their school, high school students with school spirit perform better academically, are more engaged in social matters, and are happier in general than their less-spirited schoolmates. These findings were part of an online survey of high school students, parents and principals. The new survey conducted by Harris Poll involved about 1,500 individuals who were asked about school pride, academics, selfrespect and community involvement. The research attempted to discover how school spirit is connected to the way high school students learn, lead and grow.School spirit involves a student's pride in his or her school, a student's tendency to get other students to be active in school events, and a student's plans to return to his or her school for special events after graduation. A student who completed the survey stated that “school spirit means to support your school no matter what, knowing your school has helped you to reach your goals.”From academic achievement to general happiness, the survey indicated a positive relationship to school spirit. Nearly all of the principals believe that higher levels of school spirit are tied to higher student achievement.“When students feel a sense of school spirit, they tend to be more involved in the great opportunities which exist in their school,”noted one female principal who responded to the survey.“If they have a lower level of such spirit, they are not involved in athletics or many of the activities. Additionally, they do not take personal responsibility for not doing well and tend to blame the school. Students who are achieving strongly tend to be involved in all aspects of high school. They participate in different events, activities and athletics on site.”The survey indicated that during the 2016-2017 school year, high school students were involved in an average of eight afterclass activities; and among those individuals involved in activity programs, 51 percent said the reason they were involved was so that they could be involved in their school, and 34 percent said getting involved was a way to show their school spirit.语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。
