训练5 阅读理解+完形填空+语法填空+书面表达(建议用时60分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解Foxes and farmers have never got on well. These small doglike animals have long been accused of killing farm animals. They are officially classified as harmful and farmers try to keep their numbers down by shooting or poisoning them.Farmers can also call on the services of their local hunt to control the fox population.Hunting consists of running after a fox across the countryside, with a group of specially trained dogs, followed by men and women riding horses. When the dogs eventually catch the fox, they kill it or a hunter shoots it.People who take part in hunting think of it as a sport. They wear a special uniform of red coats and white trousers, and follow strict rules of behavior. But owning a horse and hunting regularly are expensive,so most hunters are wealthy. It is estimated that up to 100,000 people watch or take part in foxhunting. But over the last couple of decades the number of people who are against fox-hunting,because they think it is brutal (残暴的),has risen sharply.Nowadays it is rare for a hunt to pass off without some kind of conflict between hunters and hunt opponents (阻止者).Sometimes these incidents lead to violence, but mostly opponents discourage the hunt by misleading riders and disturbing the trail of t he fox’s smell, which the dogs follow.Noisy conflicts between hunters and opponents have become so common that they are almost as much a part of hunting as running after foxes itself. But this year supporters of fox-hunting face a much bigger threat to their sport.A Labour Party member of Parliament(英国议会),Mike Foster,is trying to get Parliament to approve a new law which will make the hunting of wild animals with dogs illegal. If the law is passed, wild animals like foxes will be protected under the ban in Britain.1.Wealthy people in Britain have been hunting foxes to .A.benefit the farmersB.get entertainmentC.show off their wealthD.limit the fox population2.The opponents of fox-hunting often discourage the game by .A.using violenceB.taking legal actionC.seeking help from farmersD.confusing the fox hunters3.A new law may be passed by the British Parliament to .A.protect wild animals like foxesB.control foxhunting on a large scaleC.prohibit farmers from hunting foxesD.standardize the behavior of foxhunting4.What can be inferred from this passage?A.Limiting the fox population is unnecessary at all.B.Killing foxes with poison is not allowed by the law.C.Hunting foxes with dogs is considered cruel and violent.D.Foxhunting causes conflicts between hunters and farmers.【解题导语】文章主要讲述了英国人“猎狐”活动的起源和特点以及反猎狐运动的兴起。
训练2 阅读理解+完形填空+语法填空+短文改错(建议用时45分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解If Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) is today one of the bestknown and most popular figures of 20thcentury Mexican art,it is undoubtedly because of her personality and the originality of a body of works. Her work is,above all,the expression of a life-a tragic and stormy life, one that challenged all conventions. The mere mention of her name excites enthusiasm and admiration, but her work is rarely exhibited, and has not been shown in France for fifteen years. The selection to go on show at the Musée de l'Orangerie includes major works by the artist, with masterpieces from the Museo Dolores Olmedo. The life and work of Frida Kahlo cannot be separated from those of her companion Diego Rivera (1886-1957 ).Together they became figures of legend(传奇),and both have a place in the pantheon of 20thcentury Mexican artists.Famous for his large wall paintings,Rivera's easel paintings, drawings and prints, which form a large part of his artistic production, are less wellknown to the public in Europe. The exhibition aims to trace his artistic career from the early Cubist images, revealing his links with the Paris artists whose works are a key element in the Orangerie collections,to the paintings that established him as the founder of the 20thcentury school of Mexican art.His travels throughout Europe influenced his vision and his skillswithout ever distancing him from his roots, thus confirming his place in history as the founder of the nationalist school. The exhibition devoted to the legendary couple Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo presents their works together,as if to confirm the impossibility of their divorce that was in fact finalised but reconsidered after just one year apart. It also gives us a better view of their respective artistic worlds,so different and yet so complementary(互补的),through the deeprooted attachment they shared to their country.1.Which of the following best describes Frida Kahlo's work?A.Worldfamous but unusual.B.Practical and popular.C.Creative and realistic.D.Authentic but ordinary.2.What does the underlined word “pantheon” in the third paragraph refer to?A.Character. B.Community.C.School. D.Society.3.What can we infer about Rivera from the passage?A.Rivera broke up with Kahlo finally.B.Rivera's works are popular in Europe.C.Rivera's works are the focus of the exhibition.D.Rivera had his works rooted in his motherland.4.Why does the author write the passage?A.To praise the celebrities.B.To introduce two famous artists.C.To make an announcement.D.To encourage people to learn art.【解题导语】 本文为说明文,介绍了墨西哥一对夫妻艺术家的传奇人生和旷世作品。

I decided to check out DuPont Circle.I had met a guy there named Jerry once and thought he would willingly accept my $10.He wasn't there, but I did see a man sitting by himself who looked really lonely,so I approached him.Now I had to figure out what I was going to say,I think I said something like,“Hi,can I sit down here?”“I wouldlike to know if I could give you $10?” He asked me to repeat what I had said,I did, then he looked at me funny, got up and left.I then started walking south where I spotted a man standing by the bus stop on Connecticut Ave.He appeared to be in his 60s.I don't know what drew me to him,but I thought I would make my second attempt.I was a bit nervous and asked him which bus came by that stop. Then I explained that I was starting a yearlong project to give $10 to someone every day and that I wanted to give my $10 for today to him.The gentleman,I later found out that his name was Ed,responded without hesitation that he could not accept my offer and that there were many people more deserving the money than him. This was exactly one of the things that I hoped would happen.People would think of others before themselves.1.The author set the starting date on December 15 to .A.help the charityB.remember his motherC.make an explosionD.fulfill a wish of his mum2.In the author's first attempt to give away the money,.A.he was considered ridiculousB.he hesitated for a long timeC.he was forced to donate the moneyD.he had no time to take action3.In the author's second attempt, the gentleman refused his offer because .A.he didn't need other's helpB.he thought more for othersC.he didn't care about moneyD.he wanted to get more money4.We can infer that the author was inspired by .A.true friendshipB.his own kindnessC.generous donationsD.human's good nature【解题导语】本文是一篇记叙文,属于人生百味类短文阅读。

训练10 阅读理解+完形填空+语法填空+书面表达(建议用时60分钟)Ⅰ.阅读理解There is some unwelcome news for students preparing for exams and officers putting in long hours—you don't need the break as much as you may think that makes you feel less tired.Scientists have long assumed that willpower (意志力) is a limited resource, which is why you feel the need to have a rest, have a snack and come back to a task when you're feeling better. They argued that the only way to restore willpower was by rest, food or entertainment. But psychologists have challenged this theory, saying weak willpower is all in your head. They found that people's beliefs in willpower determine how long and how well they'll be able to work on a tough mental exercise.“If you think of willpower as something that's limited, you're more likely to be tired when you perform a difficult task,”said Prof.Veronika Job.“But if you think of willpower as something that is not easily used up,you can go on and on.”The researchers designed four experiments to test students' beliefs in willpower. After a tiring task, those, who believed or were led to believe that willpower is a limited resource, performed worse on standard concentration tests than those who thought of willpower as something they had more control over. They also found that leading up to final exam week, students who believed the limited resource theory atejunk food 24 percent more often than those who believed they had more control in resisting temptation (诱惑).Mr.Job said.“The theory that willpower is a limited resource is interesting, but it has had unintended consequences.Students who may already have trouble studying are being told that their power of concentration is limited, and they need to take frequent breaks. But a belief in willpower as a nonlimited resource makes people stronger in their ability to work through challenges.”The findings could help people who are battling temptation.Willpower isn't driven by a biologically based process as much as we used to think. The belief in it is what influences your behavior.1.The theory that willpower is limited supports that .A.people must eat snacks when they feel tiredB.people do need a break to restore their willpowerC.there's no way to strengthen people's willpowerD.weak willpower doesn't affect people's life much2.What have the scientists long believed regarding willpower?A.It is in the charge of people.B.It is a limited resource.C.There is no way to restore willpower.D.It doesn't easily run out.3.Which of the following best helps the students to prepare better for their exams?A.Push themselves even if they want to take a break.B.Don't eat fast food while studying.C.Remind themselves willpower is not limited.D.Stay in a comfortable and quiet place.4.What's the best title for the passage?A.A New Theory about WillpowerB.How to Build Strong WillpowerC.The Great Influence of WillpowerD.Willpower Doesn't Last Long【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文,属于日常生活类短文阅读。
