From July to December, the English names of the months have
interesting origins and meanings. July is named after Julius Caesar,
the Roman general and statesman who played a significant role in
the rise of the Roman Empire. As a way to honor him, the Roman
Senate decided to name the month of July, previously known as
Quintilis, after him. This renaming occurred around 45 BC, and the
name stuck ever since.
