A-T R I P-O N-“T H E-T R U E-N O R T H课文文本A TRIP ON “THE TRUE NORTH”Paragraph 1Li Daiyu and her cousin Liu Qian were on a trip to Canada to visit their cousins in Montreal on the Atlantic coast. Rather than take the aeroplane all the way, they decided to fly to Vancouver and then take the train from west to east across Canada. The thought that they could cross the whole continent was exciting.Paragraph 2Their friend, Danny Lin, was waiting at the airport. He was going to take them and their baggage to catch “The True North”, the cross-Canada train. On the way to the station, he chatted about their trip. “You’re going to see some great scenery. Going eastward, you’ll pass mountains and thousands of lakes and forests, as well as wide rivers and large cities. Some people have the idea that you can cross Canada in less than five days, but they forget the fact that Canada is 5,500 kilometres from coast to coast. Here in Vancouver, you’re in Canada’s warmest part. People say it is Canada’s most beautiful city, surrounded by mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Skiing in the Rocky Mountains and sailing in the harbour make Vancouver one of Canada’s most popular cities to live in. Its population is increasing rapidly. The coast north of Vancouver has some of the oldest and most beautiful forests in the world. It is so wet there that the trees are extremely tall, some measuring over 90 metres. ”Paragraph 3That afternoon aboard the train, the cousins settled down in their seats. Earlier that day, when they crossed the Rocky Mountains, they managed to catch sight of some mountain goats and even a grizzly bear and an eagle. Their next stop was Calgary, which is famous for the Calgary Stampede. Cowboys from all over the world come to compete in the Stampede. Many of them have a gift for riding wild horses and canwin thousands of dollars in prizes.Paragraph 4After two days’ travel, the girls began to realize that Canada is quite empty. At school, they had learned that most Canadians live within a few hundred kilometres of the USA border, and Canada’s population is only slightly over thirty million, but now they were amazed to see such an empty country. They went through a wheat-growing province and saw farms that covered thousands of acres. After dinner, they were back in an urban area, the busy port city of Thunder Bay at the top of the Great Lakes. The girls were surprised at the fact that ocean ships can sail up the Great Lakes. Becauseof the Great Lakes, they learned, Canada has more fresh water than any other country in the world. In fact, it has one-third of the world’s total fresh water, and much of it is in the Great Lakes.Paragraph 5That night as they slept, the train rushed across the top of Lake Superior, through the great forests and southward towards Toronto.。

二、教学目标基于对教材的理解和分析，根据《新课程标准》关于总目标的具体描述，结合高一学生实际和教材内容，制定相应教学目标：1.掌握reading部分中的重点单词和短语，并能用英语解释新的语言点；2.了解加拿大的一些地理人文概况和文化风俗；3.训练学生的阅读技巧，掌握提取信息，分析信息，解决问题的能力，学会用英语进行按时空顺序叙事和表达的能力；4.通过本部分的学习，增强学生对世界各国的兴趣，培养学生的跨文化交际意识，赏识世界的多样性。
通过开展小组活动，指导学生积极与人合作，相互学习，相互帮助，培养其团队精神；5.教学重点和难点学生每学一课，首先要掌握一定量的词汇和固定用法，通过阅读课掌握一定量的词汇并且提高学生的阅读理解能力，符合大纲的要求；6.理解和掌握课文的语言点，并能用英语解释新的语言点。
济南中学教师课时教案教学设计学情分析：1.这节课的内容围绕两个女孩的加拿大之旅展开，年龄和同学们相仿，更容易引起学生的共鸣。
在讲述加拿大的概况---地理位置、主要城市、风土人情的时候加深了学生地理知识的了解，地理爱好者的学生更喜欢分享有关的地理知识，了解了加拿大的多元文化现象和多元文化国家的特点。

初步了解了重点词汇的含义，积累了重点表达和句型，能运用所学转化到自己的写作中，为写作能力的提高打下了基础。
多媒体的运用也提升了学生的学习兴趣。
语言简洁、明确，学生快速明白指令。
学生们在获得语言知识的同时，提升了文化品格的培养。
总之，从各方面注重学生核心素养的提升。
这节课基本达到了既定的教学目标。
教材分析本单元的主要内容是了解加拿大的概况---地理位置、主要城市、风土人情等；了解多元文化现象和多元文化国家的特点。
1. Warming up 部分提供了一个关于加拿大概况的小测试，目的是激发学生已有的知识和经验，为进入本单元的学习做好准备。
2. Pre-reading 部分通过三个问题的设置提问学生有关旅行和加拿大的知识。
本单元的阅读部分是“在旅途中看加拿大”，然后提问如果你有机会去加拿大，你想到那看什么，以及你会用什么词汇描述加拿大来导入阅读部分。
