宁夏银川一中2019届高三第一次月考英语试题一、阅读理解(★★)(题文)(题文)“I’ve always loved food,” says Cassie Dawson in the kitchen of her flat inLondon. “But I’ve become bored with eating out. I’ve had too many disappointing meals and paid too much money for them! At one point, fed up with my complaint, a friend suggested I open my own restaurant. Impossible, I thought. But then I heard about supper clubs...”Supper clubs are a mixture of a restaurant and a dinner party —you go to a stranger’s house andhe/she cooks dinner for you. Like a restaurant, you pay for your food, but like a dinner party, you eat at the same table as other people.Theyare advertised through social-networking sites with a menu and little information about where the supper club is until just before the meal.“It’s like running a secret restaurant for one night,” says Cassie. “The next morning, I set the tables and chairs aside. I put the TV back and it’s my living room again.”Cassie opens her “restaurant” for people about once a month, and she really enjoys the evenings she’s had so far. She uses fresh, local ingredients and a typical meal costs about the same as a takeaway —much less than a restaurant meal. So how does she make money out of it?“I don’t,” says Cassie. “In fact, at first I was worried about losing money on my club. I’m good at cooking but my maths is terrible! But I was surprised by how cheaply I could make a good meal. This isn’t about money. It’s about a different eating experience.”And what about inviting complete strangers into her house? Was Cassie ever nervous about that? “Not at all,” she says. “Almost everyone at the supper club is just interested in having a good meal with other interesting people.”1 . While people are annoyed by it, experts suggest summer is the best season to discharge (排放) your body’s toxins (毒素) and recover your energy. One popular option is hot-stone massage (按摩). Therapists use smooth and heated stones, usually river rocks, to massage certain parts of the body, or place them on key points of the body. The warmth of the hot stones will improve blood circulation and also help relax muscles, while sweating is alsobel ieved to be good for discharging the body’s toxins.Another popular option is hot-stone baths. The hot-stone bath will help the body discharge toxins and humidity that accumulated during the last winter. Summer is the best season to build a good body. Rather than use water or steam to heat and wash the body, people simply wear a coat or something comfortable, and then lie on heated stone tablets made of hot stones, which are warmed to around45oC. The body will gradually warm up and blood circulation will also be improved. More sweat will come out quickly. The sweat is smooth and fresh, not smelly like that released after sports activities. Such baths bring a number of health benefits, such as anti-aging, improved blood circulation and stress relief. The slimming effect of dieting can even be promoted.Using hot stones for healing dates back to ancient times, but the modern renewal of hot-stone massage is generally credited to Mary Nelson, a native of Tucson, Arizona, America, whose trademark is “LaStone Therapy”.The therapy is gaining wide popularity with many people, especially those who have jobs in cool air-conditioned rooms. The hot-stone therapy can help cure many diseases, including back pain.8 . What can we know from the text?A.Sports have greater effects on the health than hot-stone massage.B.There are no toxins and humidity in the body in summer.C.Using water of about 45o C to wash the body is good for the health.D.People should take advantage of summer to improve their health.10 . Which of the following could be the best title for the text?A.The origin and development of the hot-stone therapyB.The amazing functions of the hot-stone therapyC.A healthy and comfortable lifestyleD.How to live comfortably in summer(★★)Pollution’s disastrous effects on the environment have become more obvious in recent years, leading to a movement to promote energy efficiency, less reliance on fossil fuels and a reduction in air and water pollution. Most scientists agree that such changes are necessary to protect our environment from further harm. The construction industry consumes a large quantity of energy and resources and creates a huge amount of pollution. In the United States, building and development account for 39 percent of the country’s total energy use, 12 percent of total water consumption, 68 percent of total electricity consumption and 38 percent of carbon dioxide emissions, according to the Environment Protection Agency.Green buildings use less energy, water, create less waste and are healthier to live, work and go to school in than standard buildings. Builders of green buildings use techniques that use resources more efficiently during the entire building cycle — construction, restoration, operation, maintenance (维护) and demolition (拆毁) — than those who construct more regular buildings. The environmental benefits of building green include the protection of ecosystems and biodiversity, improved air and water quality, less waste flowing into streams and the conservation of natural resources. Green buildings can also result in lower operating costs because they typically use less energy and fewer materials and improve indoor air quality, improving the health of people who live there. The process of building green includes technical and artistic planning with nature conservation in mind. Building designs often reflect the surrounding environment and natural resources and use renewable building materials such as bamboo and straw. In addition, recycled resources found locally are used for green buildings, reducing the cost and air pollution associated with transporting materials long distances.Careful site selection is important to minimize (最小化) human impact on the surrounding environment. For example, placing a structure in an area that allows it to take advantage of coolbreezes (微风) and sunlight can reduce energy use and expenses. More energy and expense are needed for larger buildings aswell, so it is important to build small.Green roofs are another feature of green houses that reduce energy use and cost. These roofs are partially or completely covered with plants, which helps to keep heating and cooling costs low, prevent water running off and deal with pollutants.Other features of green buildings often include energy and water conservation, recycling and waste reduction. In addition, renewable energy sources such as solar power, hydropower (水能) and wind power are used for heat and electricity, which greatly reduces costs and decreases the impact on the environment.12 . What is the text mainly about?A.The necessity of promoting energy efficiency.B.The process of building green buildings.C.Green buildings’ effects on the environmentD.The benefits and features of green buildings.13 . According to the text, green buildings refer to the buildings that .A.use energy and resources more efficiently B.only use clean energyC.are made of recycled materials D.produce no waste14 . Which of the following statements is TRUE about green buildings?A.They rely on fossil fuels and solar power for heat and electricity.B.Small buildings are less efficient in energy use than larger ones.C.The ecosystem has to be considered when building a green building.D.They are difficult to maintain and thus need more operating costs.15 . Green roofs are used because .A.they fit the surrounding environment wellB.they can help to control the temperature in the building wellC.they can keep natural water for use in everyday lifeD.they are cheaper than other kinds of roofs二、七选五(★★) Most students have experienced or suffered from procrastination(拖延症). Here are some tipsto help you reduce procrastination.Set goalsStudents often procrastinate because they think that they can put off the work for a while and enjoy their time at the moment. 16 . , when the deadline becomes one day away and the essay has yet to be started. In order to stay on track, you should constantly set and update goals. It can be beneficial to mark all deadlines in a planner and think about how much time you need to meet them all. Update your plan for the upcoming two weeks so that you do not get overwhelmed(压倒), and continue to update as other assignments and events arise. Additionally, make a daily schedule in order to reach necessary goals before going to bed.Reward yourselfIt can become extremely difficult to work for hours straight in order to finish schoolwork. In order to keep productivity, set breaks at the end of a period of time or once you finish a section of your work so that you can reward yourself with some deserved, scheduled, and controlled procrastination-like activities. 17 . . Breaks like these are proven to increase productivity and keep you focused, and they will make the process of studying much more bearable!Remind yourself of what you’re doingSometimes you may begin to think that what you are working on has little to do with what you ultimately want to do. You may consider some work or a class pointless and not useful to your further studies. However, when these thoughts arise, remind yourself what the ultimate goal of your schooling is. Remind yourself why you wanted to go to school and take this program in the first place.18 . .Turn off the Internet19 . If you do not need the Internet to do your work, turn it off so that you are not receiving notifications while completing your work, and you are not so tempted to search for sites. The same goes for your cell phone; you can take a break from being connected to the cyber world in order to do your schoolwork. If you feel the need to check messages and websites often, set time when you will allow yourself to do so rather than constantly staying connected.20 .Being productive for all hours of every day does not work—you do need breaks, and as a student you are entitled to have a lot of fun. So, in order to balance productivity and amusement, plan time to go out with friends or do something relaxing. But ideally, social and relaxations plans should be made after a significant portion of work is complete. This way, while you are working, you can keep in mind that once you have finished your work you can go out and not worry about your assignments.A.Have something to look forward to.B.Enjoy every minute in school.C.You may have coffee with a friend, cook, or watch a television showD.This thought tends to make things worse, thoughE. The Internet has become an essential part of our daily lifeF. You may understand why you should focus on completing your workG. Some of the most common distractions are those found on the Internet三、完形填空(★★) I still remember an old lady, a customer on the paper route in my hometown when I was 12 years old. It’s a tradition in our immediate family to wait at the hospital for a birth. Soon, she ran into a safer area and then back to our street. With the help of six strangers, we caught her within a few anxious minutes. Everyone cheered, and we thanked the helpers again and again. With Lizzy safely back inside, we drove straight to the hospital and were able to see our daughter in the delivery room. By the end of the 19th century, most Indian tribes (部落) were moved to reservations. A lot of their children were taken away to boarding schools to learn to speak English. By the end of the 20th century, more than half of the Native Americans in the US were living in the cities. They gave up speaking their old tribal language and only used English. As a result, many Native American languages disappeared and with that their culture.Today some American Indian languages are usually spoken by the older members of the tribes who still live on the reservations. In North America there are 150-170 languages that have at least one speaker. One ancient language spoken by the Northern Paiute tribe has over 100 speakers. But the good news is that some of these people are keeping their culture and language alive. They are also receiving help from the National Geographic Society’s Enduring Voices project, whose aim is to help languages around the world which are dying out. T he team meets these “last speakers”. The experts interview them and they are recorded with video, pictures and so on. They also tell old stories which are written down in English so people can learn more about the cultures.Recording the language and culture is only part of the project. The next stage is to pass on the language to the next generation. The Salish tribe is an excellent example of how schools can help. The tribe lives on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana. Their language is spoken by about 50 people aged over 75. So now, the local people have set up a school. It has 30 students aged two to twelve during the day and there are also courses for adults in the evening.8.Why did Europeans fight with the American Indians?A.To live in American cities B.To occupy more living spaceC.To have Indians speak English D.To make Indian cultures disappear9.What does the underlined word “They” refer to in Paragraph 3?A.The experts B.The recordingsC.The Indian cultures D.The last speakers10.What can we know about the Salish tribe?A.It has its own language school. D.Its language is only learnt by adults.11.What can be a suitable title for the text?A.Learning American Indian LanguagesB.Researching on American Indian LanguagesC.Saving American Indian LanguagesD.Finding Lost American Indian LanguagesIt is becoming increasingly important for researchers to closely monitor our ocean life. However, observing sea creatures up close is almost impossible since human presence scares them. Now, thanks to the The Soft Robotic Fish, also known as SoFi, researchers may be able to keep a close eye on the sea creatures.Built by MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), the white remote-controlled robot resembles the real fish, complete with a tail that waves from side to side. Though not the first autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) created to monitor the ocean, SoFi settles many of the problems that have blocked the usefulness of previous robot fish.Previous AUVs have had to be linked to boats because of radio frequency communications don’t work well underwater. To overcome the problem, Director of the CSAIL Daniela Rus and her team used sound waves. The technology can travel greater distances allowing divers to pilot SoFi from up to 50 feet away.。

We received a text from our son-in-law, Joe Levanti, that Melanie was about to give birth. Tom and I sprang from our chairs suddenly. It’s a tradition in our immediate family to wait at the hospital for a birth. This would be Melanie and Joe’s first child.“You take Lizzy out before we leave, and I’ll be waiting for you in the car!” I told Tom. I started the car and waited impatiently. Lizzy!” we shouted as fear filled our heart. We chased her up and down our Be llwood Avenue. “She’s running onto Wireless Road!” we both screamed with fear. Lizzy dashed back and forth in the busy street. My husband kept up his chase on foot. I shouted to my husband, “Tom! Be careful when you cross the street!”Within minutes, traffic was actually stopped on Wireless Road. A half-dozen good people got out of their cars to help. They are also receiving help f rom the National Geographic Society’s Enduring V oices project, whose aim is to help languages around the world which are dying out. The team meets these “last speakers”. B.It has given up speaking English.C.Its next generation speaks English. Though not the first autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) created to monitor the ocean, SoFi settles many of the problems that have blocked the usefulness of previous robot fish.Previous AUVs have had to be linked to boats because of ra dio frequency communications don’t work well underwater. To overcome the problem, Director of the CSAIL Daniela Rus and her team used sound waves. The technology can travel greater distances allowing divers to pilot SoFi from up to 50 feet away. Also limiting the usefulness of traditional AUVs is the risk of collision. With the outside made of soft silicone (硅树脂) rubber and flexible plastic that keeps its inbuilt electronics dry, SoFi poses no such danger. “Collision avoidance often leads to unnecessary movement, since the robot has to settle for a collision-free path,” says Rus. “ In contrast, a soft robot is not only more likely to survive a collision but also could use it as information to form a more workable movement plan next time around.”During test dives, SoFi moved alongside the ocean life at depths of 50 feet for up to 40 minutes at a time, taking photos and making videos. The researchers say sometimes the fish would swim alongside the strange-looking robot-fish out of curiosity, while at other times they took no notice of its existence. While SoFi presently only records video, future versions will include sensors. The researchers also hope to make it more autonomous. “We imagine someday it might help us uncovers more secrets from the amazing underw ater world that we know so little about,” says Rus.12.What can we learn about SoFi?A.Its tail is flexible. B.It is the first AUV.C.It is closely controlled. D.Its presence scares sea animals.13.What can be learned from paragraph 3?A.Sound waves travel faster than radio.B.Radio does not work well underwater.C.Previous AUVs use radio to communicate.D.A boat travels along with SoFi on the water.14.How does SoFi differ from traditional AUVs?A.It is controlled above.B.It can avoid a collision.C.It can smartly adjust its movement plan.D.It is set for a collision-free path.15.Where is the passage possibly taken from?A.A news report. Then you will not be happy to hear that schools all over the world are seriously considering exchanging traditional desks for ones with no seats at all — Yes, that means you will be encouraged to stand through those already too long math and science lessons! Why would anyone even think of putting kids to such cruelty? Experts say it improves their health and helps fight obesity. While that may seem a little far-fetched ( 牵强的 ) the officials at the few schools around the world seem to agree.Among them are educators from the College Station Independent School District in Texas, who recently completed a week-long experiment involving 480 students across three elementary schools. The 374 kids that agreed to participate in the study were provided a device that helped record step count and calorie consumption over the entire period. All 25 teachers involved in the study reported that students appeared to be more alert and concentrate better, when allowed to stand. The one thing that did surprise the researchers was that younger kids were more willing to stay standing than kids in higher grades. They believe this may have something to do with the fact that after years of being asked to “sit still”, older kids have a harder time adjusting to this unexpected freedom.American schools are not the only ones reporting success with stand-up desks. Four Catholic schools in Perth, Australia, which have been testing them since October 2013, have seen similar results. In May 2014, Grove House Primary School in Bradford, West Yorkshire, became Europe’s first test one, with a seven-week trial that involved the use of desks made by Ergotron in theirfifth-grade classrooms. While official results are not out yet, early reactions from both teachers and students, have been extremely encouraging. The findings of these studies and others done previously, all seem to mean that allowing kids to move around in classrooms is a win-win for students and teachers — it helps kids get healthier and provides educators with a more engaged audience.1.
