Water Conservation Tips What you can do to conserve water: OUTDOORS:
▪Don’t water your sidewalk or driveway. Use a broom to sweep them clean.
▪Don’t overwater your lawn or plants. Watering in the cooler parts of the day, usually before 9 am and after 7 pm, helps to reduce the amount of water needed as less evaporation occurs.
BATHROOM:
▪Consider installing a water-saving toilet. If you cannot switch, place a plastic bottle filled with water into your toilet tank. You will save water with every flush.
▪To determine if your toilet is leaking, pour some food coloring in your toilet tank.
If the food coloring appears in the toilet bowl within 20 to 30 minutes, the flapper or refill valve (located inside the tank) may need to be replaced. A leaking toilet can waste up to 250 gallons of water or more per day.
▪If no one will be home for an extended amount of time, turn off the water supply to your toilet.
▪Install low-flow showerheads and take short showers instead of baths.
KITCHEN AND LAUNDRY:
▪Use the dishwasher and washing machine only when you have a full load. Save more by choosing a shorter cycle.
▪If you are replacing your washing machine or dishwasher, consider purchasing an Energy Star-certified model which uses less water and can also help you save on your utility bill.
▪Install aerators on your faucets wherever possible. The aerators will help reduce water flow.
▪Avoid letting the water run until it is cold. Keep a bottle or pitcher of water in the refrigerator ready for drinking.
▪Wash fruits and vegetables in a bowl instead of under running water.。
