情态动词不能单独作谓语,必须和实动词或连系动词连用构成谓语。
情态动词后面跟的动词需用原形。
常用的情态动词有can , may , must 等。
情态动词can的基本用法1.表示能力(如体力和脑力方面),意为“能;会”等肯定句结构:主语+can +动词原形+其他例如:I can speak English. 我会讲英语。
I can play the guitar. 我会弹吉他。
否定句结构:主语+can +not +动词原形+其他例如:I c an’t speak English. 我会讲英语。

注意:can not 缩写为can’t2,由can引导的一般疑问句表示做某事的能力,也可以表示向对方提出请求或要求给予许可。
一般疑问句结构:Can +主语+动词原形+其他?1)询问能力例如:Can you speak English ? 你会讲英语吗?Can you sing that song ?你会唱那首歌吗?肯定回答:Yes, 主语+can. 否定回答:No, 主语+can’t2)表示请求例如:can you look after my dog?你能照看下我的狗吗?Can I see your book?我可以看下你的书吗?对表示请求的回答可以用”ok./All right.”等,比较灵活。

●例如:你会做什么?我会弹钢琴。
---What can you do?---I can play the piano.情态动词can的用法有很多,具体归纳为以下三种情况:1. 表示“许可,允许”。
※ You can go home now. 你现在可以回家了。
※ Hey, boys! You can’t play soccer in the street. 嗨,孩子们!你们不可以在街上踢球。
2. 表示“请求某人做某事”。
※ Can you take my books to your sister? 你能把我的书拿给你的妹妹吗?为了使语气更加委婉,我们可以用could。
※ Could you give me a cup of tea? 你能给我一杯茶吗?3. 表示“具有某种能力”。
我们在本单元主要学习can的这种用法。
※ ---Can you play soccer? 你会踢足球吗?---No, I can’t. But I can play volleyball. 不,我不会。
但是我会打排球。
4. 表示猜测。
※ ---Is that Mr. Smith? 那是史密斯先生吗?---That can’t be him. He is in New York now. 那不可能是他。
他现在在纽约呢。
◆2. I want to join the music club.join动词,意思是“加入;做…的成员”。
●例如:他想加入校足球队。
He wants to join the school soccer team.●请和我们一起共进晚餐吧。
Please join us for dinner.●我父亲于1970年加入中国共产党。
My father joined the Party in 1970.join sb. in +名词※ Can I join in your party? 我可以加入你们的聚会吗?※ Come and join us in the conversation. 来加入我们的谈话吧。
◆3. Can you speak English?speak 动词,意思是“说;说话”。
speak + 某种语言,表示说某种语言。
●例如:不要在图书馆大声说话。
Don’t speak loudly in the library.●我会说一点英语。
I can speak a little English.◆4. What club do you want to join?这个句型结构类似我们以前学过的What class are you in?这个句型的结构是“What + 名词+ 一般疑问句?”●例如:你喜欢什么颜色?What color do you like?●你爱看什么书?What book do you like to read?◆5. Tom can play the guitar but he can play it very well.well 副词,意思是“很好地;较好地”,修饰动词,在句中常常作状语。
其形容词形式是good。
●例如:他唱歌唱得很好。
He sings well.●你的作业做得相当好。
You did your homework pretty well.◆6. Are you good with kids?be good with ... 意思是“和…相处的好;善于待人”。
本句中的good with意思是“照看孩子;善待孩子”。
●例如:我的祖母很会照看孩子。
My grandmother is good with children.●我们应该善待动物。
We should be good with the animals.be good with 还可以表示“善于使用某物”。
※ The girls are good with their hands. 这些女孩子们的手很灵巧。
(这些女孩子很会使用她们的双手。
)有关be good..的其他常用短语:be good at 在哪方面好;擅长…,be good for 对…有好处,※ He is good at drawing. 他擅长画画。
※ It is good for you to eat more vegetables. 多吃蔬菜对你有好处。
◆7. We need help for our Beidaihe School Trip.(1)Need实义动词,意思是“需要;必须”。
如果后面跟动词,需用动词的不定式形式:need to do。
●例如:我们需要一台新电脑。
We need a new computer.(2)need 与后面的for连用意思是“在哪方面需要…”。
●例如:我们的足球队需要一名好的教练。
We need a good coach for our soccer team.●他们需要修理一下汽车。
They need to prepare their car.(3)need 也可用作情态动词,也表示“需要”。
后面的动词要用原形。
变疑问句时直接将need提前。
●例如:我们需要多种树。
We need plant more trees.●你需要这么早就走吗?Need you go home so early?◆8. Can you help with sports?help sb with sth. 在某件事情上帮助某人,介词with后接名词或动词的-ing形式。
如果表示“帮助做…”,常接不定式, help to do sth;如果要表达“帮某人做某事”还可以用help sb to do sth。
●例如:我的哥哥经常帮我做作业。
(给我做指导)My brother often helps me with my homework.●露茜常在英语方面帮助我。
Lucy often helps with my English.=Lucy often helps me to learn English.。
