Ⅰ.阅读理解ARenaissance is a French word.It means ‘rebirth’.It’s a strange name for a period of history. What was it that was ‘reborn’ during the Renaissance? To answer this question, we need to look back at the time of the Roman Empire. At this time Roman artists, scientists and writers influenced by Greek ideas were the world’s most advanced. They had become skilled observers of the natural world around them, and had become experts in studying animals, plants, the human body or the stars and planets. They wrote down their ideas about what they saw, and based their theories about the world on their observations.During the fourth and fifth centuries the Roman Empire slowly broke down. Many of the Romans’ art and sculptures were destroyed and some manuscripts (原稿) were lost as well. But most importantly, some of the ancient attitudes were lost.A questioning approach to the world was replaced by an unquestioning one.Why did this happen? One reason was to do with the influence of the Christian Church.Through the thousand years follow the fall of the Roman Empire, the Church controlled many aspects of life including education and learning. The Church ran all the universities and thought that the aim of a university should be to teach old ideas more clearly, not to introduce new ones. The scholars in the universities were expected to study God and heaven from the Bible and ancient books, rather than the world around them.Take medicine, for example. The main textbook for doctors had been written by a Greek doctor called Galen more than a thousand years earlier. But when Roger Bacon, a thirteenth-century priest (牧师), said that a new approach to medicine was needed—doctors should do their own original research instead of reading writers from the past such as Galen—the Church put him in prison.By the time of the fourteenth century, however, some parts of the Christian Church were becoming less strict about their ideas and there was a new state of mind among artists, doctors and scientists.People wanted to find out more about the world by studying it.This attitude of investigation had been common in classical scholars, and it was ‘reborn’ during the Renaissance.【语篇解读】本文是说明文。

I’ll get another chance. Under pressure, we often lose hope. We tend to distort (扭曲) the reality of the situation. One of the most common phrases is “the chance of a lifetime", in which we tell ourselves, “I will never get an opportunity like this again, so I can't miss it.2 "I'll do my best。

Modules1~3(建议用时40分钟)Ⅰ. 阅读理解A(2017·太原模拟) Speed-reading is a necessary skill in the Internet age. We skim over articles, e-mails and WeChat to try to grasp key words and the essential meaning of a certain text. Surrounded with information from our electronic devices, it would be impossible to cope if we read word by word, line by line. But a new trend calls on people to unplug and enjoy reading slowly, listing benefits beyond the intelligent stimulation.A recent story from The Wall Street Journal reported on a book club in Wellington, New Zealand, where members meet in a cafe and turn off their smart phones. They sink into cozy chairs and read in silence for an hour. Unlike traditional book clubs, the point of the slow reading club isn’t exchanging ideas about a certain book, but to get away from electronic devices and read in a quiet, relaxed environment. According to the Journal, the Wellington book club is just one example of a movement started by book lovers who miss the old-fashioned way of reading before the Internet and smart phones.Slow readers, such as The Atlantic’s Maura Kelly, say a regular reading habit sharpens the mind, improves concentration, reduces stress levels and deepens the ability to sympathize. Another study published last year in Science showed that reading novels helps people understand others’mental states and beliefs, a fundamental skill in building relationships. Yet technology has made us less attentive readers. Screens have changed our reading patterns from the straight and left-to-right sequence to a wild skimming and skipping pattern as we hunt for important words and information. Reading text punctuated with links leads to weakercomprehension than reading plain text. The Internet may have made us stupider, says Patrick Kingsley from The Guardian. Because of the Internet, he says, we have become very good at collecting a wide range of interesting news, but we are also gradually forgetting how to sit back, reflect, and relate all these facts to each other.Slow reading means a return to an uninterrupted, straight pattern, in a quiet environment free of distractions. Aim for 30 minutes a day, advises Kelly from The Atlantic. “You can squeeze in that half hour pretty easily if only during your free moments, you pick up a meaningful work of literature, 〞Kelly said. “Reach for your e-reader, if you like. Kindles make books like War and Peace less heavy, not less substantive, and also ensure you’ll never lose your place. 〞【文章大意】在互联网时代, 快速阅读已经成为一项必备的技能, 然而在新西兰的惠灵顿, 一种称为Slow reading的新型阅读模式正在兴起, 它让人们丢下手中的手机, 远离电子设备的困扰, 重新回归阅读的本真, 坐下来, 反思和理解阅读的内容。

on the other occasion they ate slowly and put down their spoons between bites. They did not know the food and water was weighed before and after the meal to determine the amount consumed.Findings were: When eating quickly, the women consumed 646 calories in about nine minutes. When eating more slowly, they had an average of 579 calories in about 29 minutes.“They ate 67 calories more in nine minutes than they did in 29 minutes,” says lead researcher Kathleen Melans.“If you add that up over three meals a day, that’s a big difference in calories.”“Upon completion of the meal and an hour afterward, the women were less satisfied and hungrier w hen eating quickly compared with when they ate slowly,” she says. They said they enjoyed the meal more when they were taking their time. Not surprisingly, the women drank more water when they ate more slowly, and researchers are doing a follow-up study on whether that factor contributed to their feeling fullness. One way to help control calories intake during Thanksgiving is“to slow down and savor(尽情享受) and enjoy your food more,” she says.1.The best title of the passage could be ______.A.Taking Your Time Caused FullnessB.Eating quickly Means Less CaloriesC.Eating Slowly Leads to Eating LessD.Enjoying Your Food in Holiday2.What is the difference between the two occasions on which these women had their lunch?A.They reached different points of fullness.B.They were provided with different amount of food.C.They ate their lunch at different speeds.D.They were offered different kinds of foods.3.The aim of the study is to find whether speed influences ______ people eat.A.how wellB.how muchC.whatD.the way4.According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE?A.These women didn’t know the weight of the food until they finished the meal.B.The food and water wasn’t weighted until the end of the meal.C.The amount of food consumed had little to do with the eating speed.D.The more quickly they ate,the more calories they consumed.5.It can be inferred from the passage that the women ______ when they ate quickly.A.drank less waterB.drank more waterC.smoked moreD.talked a lot(B)When most people turn 21,they spend too much time partying andhaving fun.But when Adele turned 21,she did something completelydifferent. After going through a tough break-up(分手),the British singerturned her pain into glory(荣耀) and recorded one of the most movingalbums(专辑) of the year. The album,21,which was released in January, has already hit thecharts in 14 countries, according to the Billboard magazine. It also noted that Adele made history as the first artist since the Beatles to have two top f ive singles and two top five albums in the charts at the same time.(Adele’s first album,19,was released in 2008.Each album is named for her age when she wrote it.)Now,after touring around the world for almost a year, the DVD of her live concert, released on November 29,is Adele’s latest work.Having topped the pre-order list of for over a month already, this one seems set to stay on top for a while.Born in north London,Adele sang her way up honestly: In 2006,she was signed by England’s XL Recordings on the strength of (基于)a three-song demo(试样唱片) a friend of hers had posted on MySpace; Before you start adiscussion, however, make sure you understand which topics are suitable and which are considered taboos(禁忌) in a particular culture. Latin Americans enjoy sharing information about their local history, art, and customs. They expect questions about their family and are sure to show pictures of their children. You may feel free to ask similar questions of your Latin American friends. The French think of conversation as an art form, and they enjoy the value of livelydiscussions as well as disagreements. For them, arguments can be interesting —and they can cover pretty much or any topic — as long as they occur in a respectful and intelligent manner. In the United States, business people like to discuss a wide range of topics, including opinions about work, family, hobbies, and politics. In Japan, China, and Korea, however, people are much more private. They do not share much about their thoughts, feelings, or emotions because they feel that doing so might take away from the harmonious business relationship they’re trying to build. Middle Easterners are also private about their personal lives and family matters. It is considered rude, for example, to ask a businessman from Saudi Arabia about his wife or children. As a general rule, it’s best not to talk about politics or religion with your business friends. This can get you into trouble, even in the United States, where people hold different views. In addition, discussing one’s salary is usually considered unsuitable. Sports is typically a friendly subject in most parts of the world, although be careful not to criticize a national sport. Instead, be friendly and p raise your host’s team.41. The author considers politics and religion ________.A. cheerful topicsB. taboosC. rude topicsD. topics that can never be talked about42. Now I am thirty two. I can slightly remember the brightness of sunshine and what color red is. It would be wonderful to see again, but a calamity(灾难) can do strange things to people. It occurred to me the other day that I might not have come to love life as I do if I hadn't been blind. I believe in life now. I am not so sure that I would have believed in it so deeply, otherwise. I don't mean that I would prefer to go without my eyes.I simply mean that the loss of them made me appreciate the more what I had left.Life, I believe, asks a continuous series of adjustments to reality. The more readilya person is able to make these adjustments, the more meaningful his own privateworld becomes. The adjustment is never easy. I was totally confused and afraid. But I was lucky. My parents and my teachers saw something in me--a potential to live, you might call it--which I didn't see, and they made me want to fight it out with blindness. The hardest lesson I had to learn was to believe in myself. That was basic. If I hadn't been able to do that, I would have collapsed and become a chair rocker on the front porch for the rest of my life. When I say belief in myself I am not talking about simply the kind of self confidence that helps me down an unfamiliar staircase alone. That is part of it. But I mean something bigger than that: an assurance thatI am, despite imperfections, a real, positive person; that somewhere in the sweeping, intricate(错综复杂的) pattern of people there is a special place where I can make myself fit.It took me years to discover and strengthen this assurance. It had to start with the simplest things. Once a man gave me an indoor baseball. I thought he was making fun of me and I was hurt. "I can't use this." I said. "Take it with you," he urgedme, "and roll it around." The words stuck in my head. "Roll it around! "By rolling the ball I could hear where it went. This gave me an idea how to achieve a goal I had thought impossible: playing baseball. At Philadelphia's Overbrook School for the Blind I invented a successful variation of baseball. We called it ground ball. All my life I have set ahead of me a series of goals and then tried to reach them, one at a time. I had to learn my limitations. It was no good trying for something that I knew at the start was wildly out of reach because that only invited the bitterness of failure. I would fail sometimes anyway but on the average I made progress.50.We can learn from the beginning of the passage that _______A. the author lost his sight because of a car crash.B. the author wouldn't love life if the disaster didn't happen.C. the disaster made the author appreciate what he had.D. the disaster strengthened the author's desire to see.51.What's the most difficult thing for the author?A. How to adjust himself to reality.B. Building up assurance that he can find his place in life.C. Learning to manage his life alone.D. How to invent a successful variation of baseball.52. late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, which remain very popular today.During earlier times, people would probably have learned several ancient Roman and Greek plays. It was not unusual fo r writers to produce more current versions of these works. For examp le,in Shakespeare’s play “The Comedy of Errors”,Shakespeare borrowed certain details from the ancient Roman writer Plautus. For his play “Macbeth”,Shakespeare most likely used a work on Scottish history by Raphael Holinshed for information.Shakespeare might have borrowed from other writers, but the intensity(强度) of his imagination and language made the plays his own. While many plays by other writers of his time have been forgotten,Shakespeare and his art live on.Shakespeare was also influenced by the world around him.He described the sights and sounds of London in his plays. His works include observations about political struggles, the fear of diseases, and the popular language of the city’s tradesmen.Shakespeare’s knowledge of the English countryside is also clear. His works include descriptions of deep forests, local flowers, and the ancient popular traditions of rural people. It would be impossible to list all of the ways in which Shakespeare’s works have influenced the world culture. But the first and greatest example would be his great influence on the English language.During his time, the English language was changing. Many new words from other languages were being added.Shakespeare used his sharp mind and poetic(富有诗意的) inventiveness to create hundreds of new words and rework old ones. For example,he created the noun forms of“critic”,“mountaineer” and “eyeball”.Many common expressions in English come from his plays, including “pomp and circumstance(装腔作势)” from “Othello”,“full circle(绕圈子地)” from “King Lear”,etc. The l ist of cultural creations influenced by Shakespeare is almost endless. From paintings to television to music and dance,Shakespeare was well represented.Shakespeare’s plays have been translated into every major language in the world.Shakespeare became a well-known writer during a golden age of theater. His years of hard work paid off.1.What can we infer from the passage?A.Many of Shakespeare’s works were influenced by earlier writings.B.Shakespeare was hard-working when he was a student.C.The experience of living in London helped a lot with Shakespeare’s works.D.Shakespeare became rich later because of the popularity of his works.2.Shakespeare might have learnt some information from ancient Roman works in_____.A.“King Lear”B.“The Comedy of Errors”C.“Macbeth”D.“Othello”3.Why could Shakespeare’s works survive his time?A.Because there were so few people writing plays in his time.B.Because he produced too many works that nobody else could do.C.Because he was a rich and influential person of his time.D.Because his works were rich in imagination and language.4.Shakespeare’s greatest influence should be on______ .A.the English languageB.paintingsC.televisionD.music and dance5.The passage is mainly about______ .A.an introduction to Shakespeare’s life and his worksB.the main features and styles of Shakespeare’s playsC.how Modules 1-2(限时:35分钟)(对应学生用书第376页)Ⅰ.阅读理解(2018·郑州一中入学测试)Enjoying a musical performance no longer requires a costly ticket or a trip to a theater. These days, musicians are performing in private homes,at haircutting shops,at airports...even on ferry boats.Musicians like house concerts. At music clubs, they often have to perform over loud conversation or deal with people who have had too much alcohol.People at house concerts are more focused on listening to the music.Just a few hours before the Bombadils started singing at the O'Hair Salon,Lindsay was cutting hair and Tamera was doing facials. Then, they moved chairs and microphones to create a small performance space. The Bombadils made music in the front part of the hair salon, near the hairdrye rs and makeup tables.“This is our first show at a hair salon,”Sarah Frank of the Bombadils told concertgoers at last week's performance.Frank said she and band members,Luke Fraser and Kaitlyn Raitz had a great time“interacting”with the audience.Concerts in people's homes,or small businesses such as O'Hair's,are becoming more popular, musicians say.“There is a more relaxed atmosphere,”said Domenic Cicala,a musician who opened up his O'Hair Salon to concerts.“People really get to know the artists.”At house concerts, people get time before and after concerts to meet the performers.Often, the hosts or guests will provide food and drink.“People really like listening to music in the living room of a friend,”said Matt Hart, with Aubrey Zoli making up the Local Strangers,a folkrock group based in Seattle. At many such concerts, the musicians do not need microphones.Yet,every word of their songs can be heard.【语篇解读】本文主要介绍了现代音乐会在举办场地的选择上更加多样化,私人居所、理发店、机场等都成为音乐家表演的场所,并且备受青睐。
