Lesson 1 How many candles are there?【教材内容分析】本课主要是继三年级下册第2课Happy birthday!学习了表达祝愿以后，再次以生日为话题谈论生日活动，旨在复习和拓展此话题。
主要句型有：How many candles are there? There are five. Are there any gifts on the table? No, there aren’t. Are there any chairs in your room? Yes, there are.板块一Look and listen : 作为听力板块，本板块以图片的形式呈现了晨晨和好朋友Steven一起打球，而妈妈和家人一起在厨房忙碌的情景；录音材料内容为Tom 饿了，想去厨房取食物吃，为下一板块谈论生日活动做了铺垫。
板块只呈现情景图、部分文本情景句型和为引出话题所需的问题以及文本材料附在教师用书中，有利于培养学生的听力。
板块二Look ,listen and say: 本板块以分图的形式，呈现晨晨和Steven 站在厨房外谈论看到的一个蛋糕的情景，由蛋糕上的蜡烛得知今天是自己的生日，就在因看不到礼物而感到失望时，家人拿着礼物出现在他面前，给了他一个大大的惊喜。
板块内容高潮迭起，深受小学生喜欢。
本板块所要学习的目标句型有：How many candles are there? There are five. Are there any gifts? No, there aren’t. 同时学习情境句型：No idea.和单词candle.板块三Ask and answer:本板块为操练板块，通过两人问答活动，进一步巩固目标句型：How many .... are there on /in ....? There are .... Are there any ....on/in...? Yes, there are. /No, there aren’t.板块四Enjoy reading: 本板块呈现的是乌鸦喝水的经典故事，编者利用这个故事向学生拓展了表示位置的There be….否定句的句型：There is no water in the river.板块五Look and say: 本板块通过几个学生询问Peter房间物品的问答活动，巩固句型：Are th ere any...in....? Yes, there are./ No, there aren’t. How many ... are there...? There are /is....然后对图片内容进行谈论，进一步巩固there be 结构的句型。
板块六Sing a song:本板块为一首关于家庭的甜蜜歌曲，要求学生能够演唱。
板块七Pronunciation: 本板块通过几个例词，学习字母c和字母组合ck 在单词中的发音规律，要求学生能认读音标/k/，并能根据发音规则读出符合该发音规则的单词。
板块八Look, read and fill: 本板块作为练习板块，要求学生能根据对话的上下文选择正确的单词或词组补全对话，考虑到学生的认知特点，板块给出图片帮助学生理解句意。

本课建议用两课时。
第一课时学习板块一、板块二、板块三和板块五，第二课时学习板块四、板块六和板块八。
【板块说明】1.设计意图本板块以图片的形式呈现了晨晨和好朋友Steven一起打球，而妈妈和家人一起在厨房忙碌的情景；录音材料内容为Tom 饿了，要去厨房取食物吃，为下一板块谈论生日活动做了铺垫。

②出示本板块图片：Look. What is Chenchen doing? What are his family doing? Why are they busy？Can you guess?③播放录音，学生听录音并回答问题：What are Chenchen and Steven going to do?1.本板块以分图的形式，呈现晨晨和Steven 站在厨房外谈论看到的一个蛋糕的情景，由蛋糕上的蜡烛得知今天是自己的生日，就在因看不到礼物而感到失望时，家人拿着礼物出现在他面前，给了他一个大大的惊喜。

③教师出示一些学习用品如书、钢笔等放在教桌上：Look, there are many school things on the desk. How many pens/… are there on the desk?引导学生回答:There are …④继续引导学生思考：Steven sees a cake on the table. Can you guess whose birthday it is? When you see a cake, what will you think of ? What will you do on someone’s birthday? Are there any gifts on the table? Why?⑤教师播放录音或多媒体课件，学生听音回答以下问题：Whose birthday is it? Are there any gifts for Chenchen at last?⑥教师再次播放录音，学生听音回答以下问题：How old is Chenchen? How many candles are there ? Are there any gifts on the table?⑦播放录音请学生听录音，跟读。
⑧学生两人一组朗读并表演对话，然后进行展示。
（2）活动设计建议①我是最佳小演员教师准备本课图片，放在一个盒子里，然后找几个学生抽取图片，根据抽取的图片内容表演对话，评选最佳小演员，此游戏也可以在小组内进行。
②转盘游戏教师自制或利用课件出示一个转盘，每个格子里写有单词如：candle, flower, gift, apple 等, 并配有不同的数字，有的格则是空白。
教师问：Are there any …? How many …. are there? 然后转动转盘，学生根据指针所指的格的内容回答 .1.设计意图本板块为操练板块，通过两人问答活动，进一步巩固目标句型：How many .... are there on /in ....? There are .... ④播放本板块录音内容，学生听音跟读，然后两人一组进行问答练习。
