How to be true to yourself?
There is a phenomenon that someone always speaks ill of other people behind them but pretends to be nothing is happened when he/she encounters him/her. In other words, there is no consistency between his/her inner heart and external heart. That is to say, he/she is not truly himself/herself. As a matter of fact, this is a kind of unconscious habit. It is exactly habit that produces his/her improper behavior. “Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny,” the maxim goes. The motto tells us that habit results from action. Of course, speaking ill of others is also a kind of action, which is called dishonesty from the level of morality and ethics. Therefore, to be honest is a key factor of being true to yourself. Then, how to be honest is a question. As for me, the following three principles are helpful for us to come closest to our true selves.
Firstly, stand firmly for your convictions in the face of personal pressure. For example, Sun Y ang, one of the most delicate teachers in No.
1 Middle School of Huan County, Qing Y ang city, Gan Su province, devoted his limited life to the endless career of education. Suffering from the gastric cancer, he still firmly s tands on the three inches’ platform as usual and sticks to his post. Regardless of the persuasion of his family members, relatives and colleagues, he still steps into the classroom and helps his caring students solve the difficulties both physically and
psychologically. What impels him to do so? That is integrity. It is exactly his softy quality—integrity that makes him stand firmly for his conviction in the face of his personal pressure…
Secondly, always give others credit that is rightfully theirs. Don’t be afraid of those who might have a better idea or who might even be smarter than you are. In our daily life, we should be good at recognizing others’ str ong points and praising them timely. Gradually, we will become more tolerant and cooperative with other people. It is an indispensable component of team spirit, which is particular important to the group works in nowadays.
Thirdly, be honest and open about who you really are. People who lack genuine core values rely on external factors—their looks and status in order to feel good about themselves. It is commonly accepted that a wealthy and noble man has much more opportunity to get married than the inferior one. As for the girls, they will inevitably do what they can to preserve this vanity, but they will pay little attention to cultivating their inner value and personal growth.
So be yourself. Don’t engage in a personal cover-up of areas that are unpleasing in your life. In other words, we are supposed to face reality squarely and be adult in our responses to life’s challenges. Self-respect and a clear conscience are powerful components of integrity and are the basis for enriching your relationships with people around you. Honesty is
the best policy. Having a quality of integrity in the 21st century will make your life become much easier and freer.。
