而当今世界是儿童身心发展的新时期,儿童也将承担着本世纪建设祖国的主力军,因此,学习和借鉴西方儿童教育的发展对促进儿童教育的进一步发展具有一定的现实意义,本文试图通过分析儿童的自身所具备的能力,中西儿童性格差异比较以及儿童所成长的环境对他们的影响来研究中西方教育的差异。

Meanwhile researching the theory, many scholars attempt to solve these problems by referring to the education systems of developed countries. But due to the countries' national condition is different, many of the problems are not solved very well. 英语东西方文化差异探究长期以来,在英语教学中语言和文化的这种关系一直未得到足够的重视。
在教学实践中,似乎认为只要进行听,说,读,写的训练,掌握了语音,词汇和语法规则就能够理解英语和用英语进行交际。
而实际上由于不了解语言文化背景,不了解中西方文化的差异,在英语学习和用英语进行交际中屡屡出现歧义误解频繁,语用失误迭出的现象。
如:用How much money can you earn a month?来表示对外国人的关心,殊不知这是一句冒犯的话,侵犯了别人的隐私(privacy),会激起对方的反感。
可见,语言和文化是密不可分的,不了解外语的文化背景,就无法正确理解和运用外语。
东西方的社会是在不同的基础上形成和发展的,所有人们的思想,信仰,习俗等都有不同程度上的差异。
因此,在英语教学中,不仅要让学生掌握基础知识,而且还应当加强有关文化背景知识的传授,使学生了解中西文化的差异。
这样不仅能使学生克服母语的干扰,养成良好的习惯,把英语学“活”,达到中学英语教学的目的,而且有助于学生集东西方文化为一身,提高文化修养。
东西方文化的差异大致可以分以下几方面:
(一).东西方感情表达方式的差异
西方人看《红楼梦》一定看不懂,这里头最大的问题就是中西方文化间的差异。
(二).日常生活差异
在说英语的国家,就如在中国一样,当遇到熟人时,人们通常会
相互问候,英语中人们常常说:
——Good morning afternoon evening!
____Hello!
____How are you doing?
(三).语言方面
例如:“You indeed are a lucky dog”直译是:“你真是一条幸运的狗。
”这在汉语中用来指讨厌的人。
可是在英语“狗”在这儿用来指人,表示一种亲昵的关系。
(四).民族传统不同
刮痧是我们中国非常好的治病的办法,不过会在皮肤上留下一些斑斑点点的血印子。
美国人就觉得是虐待孩子,这看着让人生气。
(五).告辞
“告辞”在任何一种文化当中都是最难的,尤其是对处于不同文化中的人来说。
在西方文化中,如果客人打算告辞之前要和主人简短地交谈几分钟,他们通常会这样说:——谢谢你丰盛的晚餐,——谢谢你难忘的聚会,——我很喜欢和你交谈,——很高兴再次见到您。
相比之下,中国的客人经常会说:“我现在得走了。
”或者“我认为我现在必须得走了。
”这对西方人来说就显得很唐突,还有一点儿不礼貌。
(六).恭维
在称赞和反应方面的差异
①A: Your suit is exquisite. The color is so beautiful.
B1: Thank you.
B2: Oh, it’s very ordinary.
②A: You did a good job.
B1: Thank you very much.
B2: No, I haven’t done enough. The achievement is the result of joint efforts.
(七).思维方式不同
我们思维方式里经常有意会性,喜欢用暗示,或者喻古论今。
这种含蓄需要你去意会,所谓此处无声胜有声,这与西方人的直观性不太一样。
美国社会语言学家Hymes认为:一个学习语言的人仅仅学习语言是不够的,必须学会在具体的语境中如何恰当地运用语言进行交际。
交际能力除了听、说、读、写以外,还应包括社会文化能力。
在外语教学中,除了要求学生掌握地道的语音、语调、正确的语法知识及一定的词汇量,还应帮助学生了解所学语言的文化,培养学生的文化意识,让学生在学习语言中了解文化,在了解文化中加深对语言的理解。
教学过程中要根据不同教学阶段的要求对文化因素进行科学的层次切分,分析出哪些语言形式所涉及的文化因素可能会对交际造成理解偏差和误解,甚至造成困难与障碍,将语言教学与文化教学融为一体。
具体可从以下几个方面入手:
一、加强自身的文化素养
两种不同的文化,造就了两种不同的教育制度。
作为教师,我们
是中西方文化发展与交流的桥梁,要真正实现英语教学的目的,就要扩充自己的知识。
因此,作为一名外语教师,必须不断学习,不断提高自身文化素养,只有这样才能够把英语教“活”。
二、加强词汇讲解
词汇是语言表达的基础,要真正掌握一个词,离不开它的句法功能、搭配意义和感情色彩。
由于人类的文化传统、生活习惯、历史发展具有相似性,中英两种语言中部分词汇的文化内涵很接近,但由于宗教信仰、地理环境、风俗习惯等的影响,两种语言的词汇内涵不可能完全相同。
教师在讲解词汇时应注意引导和比较,让学生不仅了解词的表面意义,而且了解词的内涵意义。
三、重视语法、篇章结构的理解
英汉两种语言在语法概念、句法及篇章结构上的差异都体现了不同民族的思维方式,在教学过程中教师如果有意识地进行对照比较,有助于学生从宏观上把握该语言,让他们在使用英语时养成用英语思维的习惯。
不少学生在用英语表达或写作时,仍沿用中国人的思维方式,不能用地道、得体的英语表达自己的思想,结果常常出现大量中国式英语,让外国人不知所云。
四、培养跨文化交际的能力
我们在使用英语进行日常交际时,除了具备英语语言本身的知识和技能外,还要注意由文化差异造成的语用差异,即注意语言的得体性和实用性。
大部分的语用差异是由交际双方不同的价值观念、思维方式、风俗习惯、生活方式造成的。
如面对同样的赞美,西方人是欣
然接受,而中国人则过分推辞谦让。
教师在教学过程中对学生容易犯的语用错误,如称呼、赞扬、问候等,应从中英文化差异的角度进行对比、分析,并给学生提供情景,让他们模拟真实的交际场景反复操练,使他们运用语言时准确流畅。
五、利用直观化教学手段,体验外国文化氛围
充分利用一切可以利用的教学手段,创造一个文化语言环境,能使学生自觉或不自觉的体验异国文化氛围。
可以通过收集和利用一些有关英语国家的物品和图片,让学生获得较为直接的文化知识,了解外国艺术、雕刻、建筑风格和风土人情。
总之,文化教学和语言教学一样,没有定法可言,但是教学有法,只要我们认真研究,一定哪个找出更多更好的文化学习方法。
教师必须要转变自己的观念,要培养学生比较不同文化差异的自觉意识,增加学生们的英语文化知识,避免套用本民族文化的标准来进行英语交际,促进学生养成用英语思维的自觉性,只有这样才能使学生具备在英语文化背景下使用英语交流的能力。
总之,英语教师必须注意语言学习的目的之一是理解所学语言的文化,尽量通过实践以及真实的交际活动,让学生认识到仅仅单纯地学习语言对于交际需要来说是不够的,还要学生注意及让他们熟悉东西方文化的差异。
了解在语言与文化的关系之中,后者是支配因素,因此学习语言应该在文化当中来学习。
