第一部分必修1Unit 5Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2020年山东卷)In the mid-1990s,Tom Bissell taught English as a volunteer in Uzbekistan. He left after seven months, physically broken and having lost his mind. A few years later, still attracted to the country,he returned to Uzbekistan to write an article about the disappearance of the Aral Sea.His visit, however, ended up involving a lot more than that. Hence this book, Chasing the Sea:Lost Among the Ghosts of Empirein Central Asia, which talks about a road trip from Tashkent to Karakalpakstan, where millions of lives have been destroyed by the slow drying up of the sea. It is the story of an American travelling to a strange land, and of the people he meets on his way:Rustam, his translator,a lovely 24-year-old who picked up his colorful English in California,Oleg and Natasha, his hosts in Tashkent, and a string of foreign aid workers. This is a quick look at life in Uzbekistan, made of friendliness and warmth, but also its darker side of society. In Samarkand,Mr. Bissell admires the architectural wonders, while on his way to Bukhara he gets a taste of police methods when suspected of drug dealing. In Ferghana,he attends a mountain funeral(葬礼) followed by a strange drinking party. And in Karakalpakstan,he is saddened by the dust storms, diseases and fishing boats stuck miles from the sea.Mr. Bissell skillfully organizes historical insights and cultural references, making his tale a well-rounded picture of Uzbekistan, seen from Western eyes. His judgment and references are decidedly American,as well as his delicate stomach. As the author explains, this is neither a travel nor a history book,or even a piece of reportage. Whatever it is,the result is a fine and vivid description of the purest of Central Asian traditions.()1.What made Mr. Bissell return to Uzbekistan?A.His friends’ invitation. B.His interest in the country.C.His love for teaching. D.His desire to regain health.()2.What does the underlined work “that” in Paragraph2 refer to?A.Developing a serious mental disease.B.Taking a guided tour in Central Asia.C.Working as a volunteer in Uzbekistan.D.Writing an article about the Aral Sea.()3.Which of the following best describes Mr. Bissell’s road trip in Uzbekistan?A.Romantic. Unit 5 Nelson Mandela—a modern hero Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2021·合肥市高三调研) Noelle Stevenson has always been a fan of science fiction and fantasies. As a kid,she loved the space battles, the magic, the quests that seemed larger than life. But there was a problem with her favorite childhood stories, like Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings series.“I never quite saw myself reflected in them,”Stevenson says,“certainly not at the heart of the story.”She wanted a female version of Luke Skywalker and Lord Sauron.Stevenson began her career as a comic(连环漫画) writer. In 2015,her graphic novel Nimona was a National Book Awards finalist and her series Lumberjanes won two Eisner Awards. When Netflix and DreamWorks wanted to reboot(重新启动) SheRa:Princess of Power—an epic showdown between magical princesses and an evil alien invader—Stevenson was all in.She kept much of the original show's action and adventure—the reboot takes place on the planet Etheria, and one of the princesses who are trying to stop the evil Horde army from taking over is named Adora. She grew up behind enemy lines, taken from her home by the Horde and raised as a soldier. But eventually,Adora realizes the atrocities the Horde has committed against the Etherians and leaves to join the rebellion(叛乱),and she quickly finds a magical sword that transforms her into a giant warrior princess named SheRa.Stevenson did make one small but important change to the show:Its name. The Netflix and DreamWorks version is SheRa and the PRINCESSES of Power. All the princesses are important.语篇解读本文是一篇记叙文。
Unit 5 Languages Around The World一、阅读理解A[2024辽宁本溪一模]When I mentioned to some friends that we all ha v e accents, most of them proudly replied, "Well, I speak perfect English/Chinese/..." But this kind of response misses the point.More often than not, what we mean when we say someone "has an accent" is that their accent is different from the local one. We’re usually talking about pronunciations different from our own. But this definition of accents is limiting and could gi v e rise to prejudice. E v ery person speaks with an accent. It is the regular differences in how we produce sounds that define our accents. E v en if you don’t hear it yourself, you speak with some sort of accent. In this sense,it’s pointless to point out that someone "has an accent". We all do!E v ery person speaks a dialect(方言), too. A dialect is a v ersion of a language that is characterized by its v ariations of structures, phrases and words. For instance, "You got eat or not?" ( meaning "Ha v e you eaten?")is an acceptable and understood question in Singapore Oral English. The fact that this expression would cause a standard American English speaker to take pause doesn’t mean that Singapore Oral English is "wrong" or "ungrammatical". The sentence is well-formed and easy to understand, according to nati v e Singapore English speakers’ solid system of grammar. Why should it be wrong just because it’s different? We need to mo v e beyond a narrow conception of accents and dialects — for the benefit ofe v eryone. Language differences like these pro v ide insights into people’s cultural experiences and backgrounds. In a global age,the way one speaks is a distinct part of one’s identity. Most people would be happy to talk about the cultures behind their speech. We’d learn more about the world we li v e in and make friends along the way.本文主要讲述了口音指的是什么、口音存在的普遍性以及口音的价值所在。

The last thing Caitlin Hipp would have expected as she prepared to turn 28 years old was to be living at home with her parents. All she’s ever wanted to do is to become an elementary school teacher. However, Hipp has racked up(累计) $100,000 (about 0.67 million yuan) in student loan debt and isn’t able to earn enough through working as a part-time skating instructor and restaurant server to live anywhere other than home.To some degree, multigenerational households have always been a part of American life. However, the number of adults who have been moving back in with their parents or never leaving home in the first place has been growing steadily. The Pew Research Center recently reported that 2016 was a milestone in the evolving living arrangements of young adults in the US. Until 2016, the most common living arrangement for young adults was to be living in their own property as part of a couple. UBS Financial Services, a Swiss global financial services company, released a report that even suggests one reason for the growing number of young adults still living at home could be that their family doesn’t want them to leave. The report shows that 74 percent of millennials(千禧一代) get some kind of financial support from their parents after college. Millennials see their parents as peers, friends and mentors(导师). In return, their parents happily provide financial support well into adulthood, helping fund everything for them. Stuart Hoffman, chief economist for the PNC Financial Group in the US, said “Although job growth for millennials since 2014 has improved, that doesn’t necessarily mean that millennials are starting to fly the nest, he said. “They may like living at home and being able to save money.”He added, “While it has held back household formation and purchases on things, they are probably traveling more and eating out more. I don’t know if it represents a change in moral values, it’s much more common for adult children to live in their parent’s homes because it’s becoming part of the culture.”1.What’s the purpose of Caitlin Hipp’s story?A. To prove the author’s view.B. To introduce her situation.C. To present the topic.D. To make readers rethink about the problem.2.What does the underlined part (Paragraph1) probably refer to?A. live with parentsB. live independentlyC. stay at homeD. leave home3.According to Hoffman, which of the following is true?A. It isn’t necessary for millennials to leave the nest.B. They can spend less money on their daily life.C. Moral values are changing gradually.D. Young adults are living in a different life style.4.What’s the main idea of the passage?A. Why is the number of the millennial growing steadily?B. Why has the percentage of adults living with their parents been on the rise?C. Why are parents willing to help fund for young adults?D. Why do more adults treat their parents as peers, friends and guides?【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了在,现在和父母同住的年轻人的数量持续增加这一社会现象。

He died on January 11,1928. In his youth, Hardy read much and dreamt of becoming a poet, but he studied and practiced architecture as an assistant to a London architect, winning a prize for design. The fine descriptions of structure in his novels were probably somewhat due to his architectural training. For five years Hardy worked hard to practice writing poetry, but when he was twenty seven, he turned to fiction. His first novel finished by 1867, but according to the advice of George Meredith he decided not to publish it. After he abandoned his first novel, his another novel Desperate Remedies, appeared in 1871. During the next twentyfive years he published ten more novels and two collections of short stories.Under the Greenwood Tree(1872) was never surpassed(超越) in happy and delicate perfection of art. This and his next novel, A Pair of Blue Eyes(1873), began to show deep irony(讽刺) which is so obvious throughout Hardy's writings.Far from the Madding Crowd(1874) was his first popular success. It shows Hardy's amazing power of describing nature as symbolic background for his characters, an organic part of the action of his story. This was the earliest of what he called his novels of character and environment, which included The Return of the Native, Tess of the d'Urbervilles, his masterpiece, and Jude the Obscure. Not until he was fiftyeight years old was his first collection of poems published, and he was sixty four when the first part of his drama The Dynasts surprised the literary world.【语篇解读】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了作家Thomas Hardy和他的一些作品。
