For many years, applied linguists and listening experts have devoted themselves on this problem by improve listening. In reality, different strategies such as listening to news program, watching English television spot, reading some English books have been tried, but the improvement of listening has not been raised remarkably, especially the non-English students, they don‟t have professional listening class, and in their daily life they don‟t have much chance to related to the English listening. Base on the situation we use the questionnaire to do this investigation. This survey shows that the non- English learners have many problems about the listening, such as the many of them don‟t use listening strategies duri ng the training for listening, and some student don‟t pay attention on the background of the listening material. Many researchers have made survey into this field, which show that listening strategy enable learners to be more successful, more autonomous in their listening. With related previous studies as a guidance, we conducted a survey on the listening strategies among thecollege students of non- English learners, expecting to find out the following problems:1) The relationship between the performance and they use oflistening strategies2. Literature Review2.1 literature Review at home and abroadResearchers on second language learning strategies have begun at the middle of 1970s. Rubine published a essay named “What …the Good Language Learner‟ Can Teach Us” was the first researching on language learning strategy.Wen Qiufa ng‟s research shows that China‟s scholars begun to pay attention to the language learning strategy in 1984. Looking the printed and published thesis and books for 20 years, the English language learning strategy of our country can summarize : the research of listening strategy in concentrated, the writing strategy is nearly blank, and short of reading strategy. There were 18 papers about learning strategy from 1984—2007. These papers were focus on the following problems:1)The relationship between the listening strategies and theperformance.2)The strategies influence by the background3)The use of learning strategy4)The effect on training learning strategy3. Methodology3.1 SubjectsThe subjects of our investigation are the 33 sophomore of non-English learners on our campus. They main learn listening by themselves.3.2 Instrument and ProcedureWe choose to use the questionnaire forms to do this survey. This survey contain 15 multiple choice. These questions mainly focus on the listening strategies they may use in their training. They finished the questionnaire in a few minutes, and then we took it.Table 1 i ndicates that 55% don‟t think the listening is the most important among the listening, speaking, reading, reading. Only 27% focus on the tone and intonation, among 63% don/t concerned this question. But 100% of them thought the improve vocabulary can improve the listening. 55% of them did not take notes while their listening, in fact this is a very important process of listening. 64% of them will influence by the distracted attention. Only 18% of them recite some motto, proverbs to improve their listening.4.2 Discussion4.21The relationship between the performance and they use of listening strategies.During the investigation we talking about the relationship between the performance and they use of listening strategies. These students who rarely use learning strategy are have poor listening, and many of them did not pass the CET—6. The have the common questions:1)They nearly could not understand what they heard about.2)They could not listen clearly because some speakers havestrong accent.3)They did not know much background of the listeningmaterials.4)They did not train listening constantly.5)They don‟t know many listening strategies.6)They can not pay attention when they train, and when theylisten some difficult words, they do not want to continue anymore. The students who often use listening strategies are different from the non-users.1)They can listen to the listening materials clearly.2)They will take some notes during the listening training.3)They read some newspapers, books, listen to some news in theirdaily life.4)Can understand the different accent.Even the listening strategies are very important, but many students still do not use it, many of them even do not know how to use it in a right way. That is will becomes a very serious problem, so we should learn to use the listening strategies to improve listening.5. ConclusionsTo improve the listening skill is not only for the test but also to communicate with others. If someone can‟t listen to others clearly, how can he reply in a right way?As we know, we have divided the listening processes into five steps:1)Sensing: you must catch sounds.2)Interpreting: after you have the sounds, you need to interpretthese sounds and make meaning out of them.3)Evaluating: you need to evaluate what you hear, that is, form anopinion about the message.4)Remembering: you need to remember what you have heard.5)Responding: you need to respond to what you hear.Because non-English learners often train listening by themselves, so they may confused about the listening strategies. There are some suggestions as following:一、pre—listening strategies1)Check some background information.2)Prediction some situation and information.二、While—listening strategies1)Listen to some key wards2)Predict what will meet next3)Infer according to context4)Selection listening5)Take note in a logic way三、Pay attention to sounds1)Incomplete plosion.2)Sound linking3)Rhythm4)Syllable5)Word stress6)Contrastive length7)Contrastive clarity8)Thought group9)Sentence stress10)Intonation四、In daily life, you can do something to deal with the differenttapes of listening tasks efficiently.1)Listening to news2)Watching TV programs3)Taking listening comprehension examsIn fact, everyone has the potential to has good listening, and everyone has own ways to success. But you should use listening strategies as much as possible. To improve listening is a slowly process, so you should have the willpower and insist on training.
