The owners can performchecks and inspections themselves or have their NISSAN dealers dothem.OUTSIDE THE VEHICLEDThe maintenance items listed here should be performed from time totime, unless otherwise specified.Item Reference pageTires Check the pressure with a gauge oftenand always prior to long distance trips. Ad-Ejust the pressure in all tires,including the spare, to the pressure specified. Check WT-111carefully for damage, cuts orexcessive wear.Wheel nuts When checking the tires, make sure nonuts are missing, and check for any loosenuts. Tighten ifnecessary.― FTire rotation Tires should be rotated every 12,000 km7,500 miles . Check that the latches lock secure-ly for folding-down rear seatbacks.Seat belts Check that all parts of the seat beltsystem e.g. buckles, anchors, adjusters andretractors operate properly andsmoothly, and are installed securely. Check the MA-38belt webbing for cuts, fraying, wearor damage.Accelerator pedal Check the pedal for smooth operation and make sure the pedal does not catch or―require uneven effort. Keep the floor mats away from the pedal.Brakes Check that the brake does not pull the vehicle to one side when applied. ―Brake pedal and Check the pedal for smooth operation and make sure it has the proper distance un-booster der it when depressed fully. Check the brake booster function. Be sure to keep the BR-9, BR-15floor mats away from the pedal.Parking brake Check that the lever or the pedal has the proper travel and make sure that the ve-PB-3hicle is held securely on a fairly steep hill when only the parking brake is applied.CVT P Park position On a fairly steep hill check that the vehicle is held securely with the selector lever―mechanism in the P Park position without applying any brakes.UNDER THE HOOD AND VEHICLEThe maintenance items listed here should be checked periodically e.g.each time you check the engine oil or refuel .Item Reference pageWindshield washer flu-Check that there is adequate fluid inthe tank. ―idEngine coolant level Check the coolant level when theengine is cold. Make sure thehoses have no cracks, deformation,deteriora- ―tion or loose connections.Brake fluid level Make sure that the brake fluid levelis between the “” and “MIN” lines on theMA-34reservoir.Battery Check the fluid level in each cell.It should be between the “” and “MIN” lines.Vehicles operated in hightemperatures or under severe conditions require fre- PG-3quent checks of the battery fluidlevel.Engine drive belt Make sure that no belt is frayed, worn, cracked or oily. MA-18Engine oil level Check the level on the oil level gauge after parking the vehicle on a level spot andLU-7turning off the engine.Power steering fluid Check the level on the dipstick with the engine off. Check the lines for improper at-MA-36level and lines tachment, leaks, cracks, etc.Exhaust system Make sure there are no loose supports, cracks or holes. If the sound of the exhaustseems unusual or there is a smell of exhaust fumes, immediately locate the trouble MA-28and correct it.Underbody The underbody is frequently exposed to corrosive substances such as those usedon icy roads or to control dust. It is very important to remove these substances, oth-erwise rust will form on the floor pan, frame, fuel lines and around the exhaust sys-―tem. At the end of winter, the underbody should be thoroughly flushed with plainwater, being careful to clean those areas where mud and dirt can easily accumu-late.Fluid leaks Check under the vehicle for fuel, oil, water or other fluid leaks after the vehicle hasbeen parked for a while.
