It's made of huge stones and you can see all the willow trees hanging over the water. It's just so pretty!Another cool thing about West Lake is all the different islands inside of it. It used to be the home of a rich person's mansion but now it's just covered in rocks and bamboo groves. How cool is that?My absolute favorite place in Hangzhou though is Lingyin Temple. It's an enormous Buddhist temple complex built into the side of a mountain! The temples are all connected by stairs and pathways that wind around the peaks. You could spend all day exploring and still not see everything.The biggest part of the temple is the Grand Hall which has a 24 meter tall Buddha statue inside. The statue is totally carved out of wood and it's one of the largest wooden Buddhas in China! Just thinking about how long it must have taken to carve makes my hand cramp up. Around the Grand Hall there are hundreds of little Buddhist figures lining the walls. My dad says they are Arhats who were Buddha's students.I could keep going on and on about Lingyin Temple because there's so much cool stuff there. They have monk dorms, places for meditating, ponds, libraries full of ancient books, and even a tea house. I just love how peaceful and serene the whole temple feels. It's the perfect place to sit and take everything in.Speaking of tea, Hangzhou is famous for its incredible longjing green tea. At night, the entire lake is illuminated and reflects off the waters like a million twinkling lights. It's simply magical!Every spring, the area around West Lake comes alive with peach, plum, and cherry blossoms. The blossoms only last a few weeks but the lake looks like it's surrounded by clouds of pink and white flowers. People flock from all over to see the blossomsand have picnics in the parks. In the early morning when the mist is still rising off the water, it feels like you've stepped into another world.The Xixi park also has exhibits where you can learn all about the local flora and fauna found in the wetlands. They have trailsthat wind through dense bamboo forests and over arched bridges. I love exploring all the little nooks and crannies to see what surprises are around the next corner. At certain times of year, the park is blanketed with millions of red spider lilies which create a vivid scarlet landscape. It's unlike anything I've ever seen!While nature is definitely one of the biggest draws of Hangzhou, our city is also incredibly modern with towering skyscrapers and some of the biggest companies in the world headquartered here like Alibaba. We have a huge subway system, bullet trains that can get you to Shanghai in less than an hour, and the craziest highway interchanges you've ever laid eyes on.When night falls, the city lights up with neon and bustling nightlife. The busy Qingchun Road is lined with nightclubs, bars, and restaurants that stay open until the wee hours. But if you want to experience something really special, you have to check out the Grand Canal which is a 1,800 year old man-made waterway running right through downtown Hangzhou.At night, the canal is illuminated by traditional red lanterns hanging from arched bridges.
