的尼亚加拉市(City

那么方便了,即使这次这么靠近加拿大隔河相望也没有机会去加拿大看看了。
尼亚加拉瀑布的上游就是尼亚加拉河,这里曾经居住的都是些印第安土著人。
这条河波涛汹涌并且它下游的尼亚加拉瀑布更是壮观无比,声音像打雷一般,于是人们就给他们取名为
Niagara(尼亚加拉)意
即“巨大的水雷”。

Part3:华盛顿特区结束了在尼亚加拉的旅程之后,我来到了美国的首都——华盛顿特区(Washington D.C.)。
它的全名是华盛顿哥伦比亚特区。
华盛顿特区位于美国的东部,它与我们中国的沿海城市有所不同,我们是临近太平洋,而华盛顿特区则是临近大西洋。
位于马里兰州和弗吉尼亚州之间的波托马克河与阿纳卡斯蒂亚河汇流处。
由于在华盛顿特区工作的人很多,而且那里的房子都很贵(相对于附近的马里兰州和弗吉尼亚州)。
所以在华盛顿特区工作的很多人都把房子买在了附近的马里兰州,当地人的这种居住习惯导致那里的一个很有趣的人口现象就是:在白天的时候有一百万左右,而到了晚上人口就降至六十多万。
这种怪事在中国是根本不存在的。
很多人可能都以为美国的首都一开始就是在华盛顿特区,但是事实其实不是这样的,建国之
初,美国的首都在费
城,到了1800年才
把首都迁到了华盛
顿特区。
这个名字是
为了纪念美国的开
国元勋——乔治·华
盛顿以及纪念发现
美洲新大陆的哥伦
布而命名的。
在华盛顿特区我去
的第一个景点就是
美国总统府——白
宫。
由于当时去的太
早了空无一人,现在正住在里面的是美国的第44任总统贝拉克·奥巴马。
白宫于1800年竣工,还曾被大火烧过一次,政府为了掩盖被大火烧过的痕迹把外墙都涂成了白色,从此以后人们称它为白宫(white house)。
“白宫”也就成为了美国政府的代名词。
还有一个在华盛顿
特区值得一提的景
点就是国会大厦。
这
栋建筑物经常出现
在电视上,这导致有
些人甚至以为国会
大厦就是白宫,但是
事实上国会大厦比
白宫要大得多而且
还是圆顶的。
这栋建
筑同样是于1800年投入使用的。
从远处望去,国会大厦是一座巨柱环立的建筑物,中间是皇冠形的圆顶式大楼,在华盛顿市内很多地方都能看到国会大厦的雄姿。
国会大厦是华盛顿的中心点,占据着全市最高的地势,同时又是华盛顿最美丽、最壮观的建筑。
美国人把国会大厦称为Capitol,把它看做是民有、民治、民享政权的最高象征。
Part4:波士顿在美国我去的最后一个城市就是波士顿,它创建于1630年,是美国最古老、最有文化价值
的城市之一。
