Student Volunteers Help Soup Kitchen Feed the Hungry!

This weekend the student council at Oakwood Elementary

organized a really cool volunteer event to help out at the

Community Soup Kitchen downtown. A whole bunch of kids and

their families signed up to prepare and serve food for people

who don't have enough to eat. It was such an amazing

experience!

On Saturday morning, over 50 student volunteers showed

up bright and early at 8am, pulling on hairnets and plastic gloves.

The soup kitchen staff explained that we'd be working in the

kitchen prepping vegetables, cooking big pots of soup and chili,

and making hundreds of sandwiches. We divided into teams to

tackle different jobs.

My best friend Jamal and I were on veggie duty. We had tons
