The LDO has a recommended operating input voltage range of 1.5V to 7V with an output voltage as low as 0.6V and is stable with a wide range of ceramic, tantalum, and electrolytic output capacitors. Shutdown/EnableThe Enable (on/off) input threshold voltage is 1.2V. When disabled the LDO quiescent current decreases to a typical value of <1µA.Fault ProtectionShort circuit and over-temperature shutdown disable the converter and LDO in the event of an overload condition. Over-temp shutdown disables the device when the junction temperature exceeds 145 ºC. The output current is internally limited to 6A typical.Input CapacitorAn input bypass capacitor ranging from 1µF to 22µF is required. The capacitor should be placed as close as possible to the device and not be placed more than 1 inch from the LDO.Output CapacitorThe output capacitor requirements range from the minimum value required to guarantee stability to larger values required to meet the extreme transient response requirements. Values range from 10 to 22µF X5R ceramic capacitors. Due to the extreme voltage coefficient of X5R ceramic capacitors, the voltage rating should be at least double the maximum applied voltage.Adjustable Version: Feedback Resistor Selection Choosing AMS3132 with adjustable output voltage option allows the user to select an output voltage by using an external resistor divider. AMS 3132 uses a 0.6V reference voltage at the positive terminal of the error amplifier. To set the output voltage a programming resistor from the adjust pin (ADJ) to ground must be selected (See Pg.1). A 10kΩ resistor is a good selection for a programming resistor R1. A higher value may result in an excessively sensitive feedback node while a lower value will draw more current and degrade the light load efficiency. The equation for selecting the voltage specific resistor is:R2= VoutVref -1 ·R1= 5V0.6V-1 ·10kΩ=73.2kΩTable 1: Adjustable Feedback Resistor valuesVout (V)R2 (kΩ)(R1=10kΩ)1.8 20.02.5 31.63.3 45.35.0 73.2Power Good VersionDuring operation, fault conditions can occur unexpectedly. Such conditions include input voltage dropout (low V IN), overheating, or overloading (excessive output current). If any of these conditions occurs, the PG pin will set an “error flag”. The PG pin, which is an open-collector output, will go LOW when V OUT is less than 95% or the specified output voltage. When the voltage at V OUT is greater than 95% of the specified output voltage, the PG pin is HIGH. A logic pull-up resistor of 10KΩ is recommended at this output. The pin can be left disconnected if unused. PCB LayoutThe following guidelines should be followed to insure proper layout.1. V IN Capacitor. A low ESR ceramic bypasscapacitor must be placed as close to the IC aspossible.2. Adjustable (ADJ) Feedback Resistors. Theadjustable feedback resistors should be placed asclose as possible the IC. Minimize the length ofthe trace from the feedback pin to the resistors. This is a high impedance node susceptible to interference from external RF noise sources3. Ground.4. For good thermal performance vias are requiredto couple the tab of the TO-263 package to thePCB ground plane. The via diameter should be0.3mm to 0.33mm positioned on a 1.2mm grid. Output Power and Thermal LimitsThe AMS3132 junction temperature and current capability depends on the internal dissipation and the junction to case thermal resistance of the TO-263 exposed tab packages. Additionally, the tab paddle and PCB temperature will be elevated due to the total losses of the LDO and of other circuits mounted to the PCB.Tjmax=Pd·θjc+Tpcb+TambThe internal losses contribute to the junction temperature rise above the paddle and PCB temperature.Figure 4: AMS3132 TO-263 5-Pin Evaluation BoardTop SideFigure 5: AMS3132 TO-263 5-Pin Evaluation BoardBottom SideFigure6: AMS3132 Universal Evaluation Board SchematicTable 2: AMS3132 Universal Evaluation Board Bill of MaterialComponentValueManufacturer AMS3132 Version Manufacturer Part NumberC1,C222µF, 10V, X5R, 0805, CeramicTaiyo Yuden any LMK212BJ226MG-TC3,C5,C4,C6 Optional anyC7 Optional any R1 10k Ω, 0.1W, 0603 1% Various AMS3132M, or AMS3132-XX-PG CRCW060310K0FKEAR2See table 2 VariousAMS3132M, or AMS3132-XX-PG CRCW0603xxKxFKEA10k Ω, 0.1W, 0603 1% Various AMS3132M-PG CRCW060310K0FKEAR3 10k Ω, 0.1W, 0603 1% Various AMS3132-XX-PGCRCW060310K0FKEAVingnd*3. 10k for AMS3132M-PG, Table 2 for AMS3132M and AMS3132-XX-PG *4.

Monoxor II1 INTRODUCTIONThe Monoxor® II is a commercial-gradeportable instrument designed to displayconcentrations of carbon monoxide (CO)gas between 0 and 2000 ppm. This instru-ment shows the presence of CO in a gassample by drawing the sample into its sen-sor chamber by a built-in motorized pump.Part #0019-7034 comes with a probe. Part#0019-7039 comes without a probe (Allnon-probe related functions remain thesame in this instruction).Other features and accessories of theMonoxor II include: A large, back-litLiquid Crystal Display (LCD), which al-lows the display to be read in any lightingcondition from direct sun-light to totaldarkness; a semi-detachable elastic strapthat permits the instrument to be eitherhand held, or hung on nearby objects; arigid stainless steel probe with handle, connected to a fl exible hose that allowsgas samples to be taken from crampedand con fi ned areas (alternate probes andcondensate traps may be used).2Figure 2. (341 grams)Dimensions ..........................8.6 x 3.5 x 2.9 in. (218 x 89 x 74 mm)To prepare the instrument for operation, youmust install four “C” size batteries, and (ifdesired) install the hose and probe as describedin the following paragraphs. For your convenience, and to ensure that theinstrument will provide reliable CO indications, the CO sensor is installed and the instrumentcalibrated on 500 ppm of CO at the factory.3.1 Battery InstallationDetach the elastic strap's metal clip at the bottomof the instrument, and slide off the battery coveras shown in Figure 2. Then while observingproper battery polarity, install four “C” sizebatteries into the instrument’s battery compart-ment. (Recommended battery types: DuracellAlkaline or equivalent). After the batteriesare installed, replace the battery cover and theelastic-strap clip.* Tighter accuracy in the lower ranges, up to ±2 ppm, may be attained if lower range calibration gases (eg. 100 ppm) are utilized.** Times are with the backlight turned off. Continuous use of the backlight will decrease battery life.3 PREPARING THE MONOXOR II FOR OPERATIONIf batteries are accidently installed in the wrong polarity, a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistor will protect the instrument’s electronic circuitry. The instrument will operate once batteries are properly installed and the PTC thermistor is allowed to cool.3.2 Probe InstallationInstall the probe by sliding the end of its tubing over the gas inlet port on the top right side of the instrument as shown in Figure 3. The tubing may be diffi cult to slide over the gas inlet port of the unit for the fi rst time. This was done intentionally to allow for a snug fi t. If necessary, use a little dish washing liquid diluted in water or heat the end of the tube with hot tap water to help it slide onto the port.GAS INLET PORTLINEDRYERPROBEHANDLEWhen changingprobe tubes, hand tighten nut,and then use awrench to tighten≈1 fl at to seal.Figure 3. Probe Installation344 OPERATIONTo operate the Monoxor II, you simply . . .• Set its POWER switch to ON,• Wait for the instrument to warm up (approx. 1 minute), • Zero the display (if necessary),• Take a gas sample.Detailed operating procedures are presented below:4.1 Power ON/OFFTurn on the instrument by sliding its POWER switchto ON. Observe that when power is fi rst applied, allnumerical LCD segments are tested for 5–15 sec-onds; after which, the LCD shows the detected CO level. (A minus sign may appear during power up as the sensor stabilizes.) Turn off the instrument by sliding the POWER switch to OFF.Important! When storing the instrument for extended periods of time, remove the batteries and ensure that the POWER switch is OFF . The OFF position places a short across the CO sensor, thus keeping the sensor from being destabilized while not in use.4.2 Zeroing the InstrumentAfter being turned on and warmed up for at least 1 minute, the instru-ment should indicate 000 ±5 ppm in fresh air. If the instrument needs to be zeroed, proceed as follows:1. Ensure that the instrument is sampling air that is free of Carbon Monoxide.NOTE: If the instrument was zeroed in an area where CO was present, a large negative CO display appears.2. Using a 1/8" fl at-blade screwdriver, turn theADJUST potentiometer until the LCD shows0 ppm. The display shows negative numbers forzeroing purposes. An instrument can be considered zeroed with adisplay bounce of up to ±3 ppm.4.3 Backlight ON/OFFThe LCD can be read in low-light areas by setting the front panel LIGHT switch to ON. The backlight stays on until turned off, or until the POWER switch is set to OFF.4.4 Using the StrapThe instrument's elastic strap allows the unit to be either hand-held, or hung on nearby objects.By sliding your hand between the instrument and its elastic strap, you can hold onto the Monoxor II with a minimum of effort. The instrument's front panel slide switches can then be actuated by your thumb for one-handed operation. Or, by releasing the metal clip at the bottom of the instrument's case, you can hang the instrument by its strap on nearby objects such as nails, sheet metal, or valve handles.4.5 Using the ProbeA rigid stainless steel probe with handle is used to draw a gas sample from the room, grilles, diffusers, and furnace flues through a line dryer and fl exible hose into the instrument. A fl exible probe option (see Section 6) is available to give easy access to hot-water heater fl ues and inside furnace heat exchangers. The probe tube is detachable from the handle when sampling with a different probe is desired. See Figure 3.Important! The line-dryer will remove moisture from the gas sample. If the line-dryer becomes saturated, however, condensation may be observed within the hose. If this occurs, stop sampling and replace the line-dryer's fi lter-packing material.4.6 Interpreting the Displayrange from 0 to 1999 ppm. The display on the rightindicates a CO level of 500 ppm.5Overrange When the gas sample exceeds1999 ppm, a “1” is displayed on the LCD. To clearan overrange condition, leave instrument turned onand sample fresh air until the LCD returns to displaying CO.Low Battery Indications W hen the battery voltage Array becomes low, the “LO BAT” indicator appears.Although the instrument will continue to operateand give CO readings under these conditions, the batteries should be replaced as soon as possible. When battery voltage becomes too low for theinstrument to operate, a “-1” is displayed on theLCD. No CO readings are provided under theseconditions.4.7 Long-Term StorageWhen storing the Monoxor II for extended periods of time, set its POWER switch to OFF and remove the batteries. The POWER OFF position places a short across the CO sensor, thus keeping it from being destabilized while not in use.5 MAINTENANCEThe Monoxor II needs to be calibrated at regular intervals to be cer-tain that it still meets its accuracy specifi cation. A regular calibration schedule should be established between you and your nearest Bacha-rach Service Center, unless your facility has the necessary calibration equipment and personnel trained in the maintenance of gas-detection equipment. Detailed calibration , maintenance procedures and re-placement parts lists are provided in the Service Manual (0019-9166). As a quick check of the instrument’s operation, perform a response check by exposing the instrument to a source of CO (e.g., cigarette smoke, smoke from a recently snuffed-out match, bottled CO). If the instrument doesn’t show the presence of CO, or if the reading is obvi-ously in error, DO NOT use the instrument until it has been serviced by an authorized Bacharach Service Center.DO NOT use this simple response check as a sub-NOTE:stitute for ensuring the instrument is properly calibrated.66 PARTS / SERVICE6.1 Parts/Accessories List Item Part No. Battery Cover 0019-3029 Probe/Hose/Line Dryer Assy. 0019-3084 Flexible Probe Tube (optional) 0019-3104 Line Dryer Filter Packing 0011-01226.2 Bacharach Sales / Service Centers 7United StatesBacharach, Inc.621 Hunt Valley CircleNew Kensington, PA 15068Phone: 724-334-5051Fax: 724-334-5723Email:********************Canada Bacharach of Canada, Inc.20 Amber St. Unit #7Markham, Ontario L3R SP4 Canada Phone: 905-470-8985Fax: 905-470-8963Email:*******************7 HAZARDS OF CARBON MONOXIDECarbon monoxide poisoning results in headache, nausea, chronic tired-ness, confusion, dizziness, and sometimes coma or death.
