Lesson 17 Staying Safe in an Earthquake
1. Analysis of the Students
The students of Grade 9 have mastered certain vocabularies,expressions and structures. They also have the abilities of self-teaching and working in groups. Most of them are willing to express their opinions in English.
2. Analysis of Teaching Content
Lesson 17 is the fifth lesson in Unit 3, Book 5.This unit focus on the subject safety. Students cares about the subject because it is close to everyone. Lesson 17 mainly talks about the earthquake, and teach students what should we do when the accidents come.

To learn some words and phrases about safety tips during and after the earthquake. Such as: calm, system, object, survival, protect… from (doing)…and so on. And go on learning the imperative sentences.

To give warnings with imperatives.

To know how to behave during and after the earthquake and keep safe.

1.Show the pictures and ask students what happened to elicit the word “Earthquake”.

3.What is the first thing you should do when an earthquake happens?
4.Explain the new words.
5.Read the lesson and match the sentences on page 43.
6.Explain the language points:
