Unit 4Cloning and Ethics

1.Do you want a clone of yourself? Explain.

No. I don’t.

If I clone myself, there will be many of problems.

Firstly, what should I call him? The relationship between us will confuse me a lot.

Secondly, how to distinguish us in daily life? If she committed crime, people may think it was me who did it.

Our relatives such as my husband, my parents, also can’t distinguish us. It is really a terrible thing.

2.What kind of people are in favor of cloning science?

In my opinions,

Firstly, couples who can’t have a baby in the usual way. Cloning represents the only hope of having a child carrying their genes,

Secondly, people who want to achieve immortality. They believe cloning is the key to achieving immortality.

Thirdly, scientists who want to make themselves shoot to fame. If they clone a baby they will be well-known by the world.

3.Do you think a cloned Einstein would be a great person? Why or why not?

Firstly, the environment changes all the times, different environment will have different impact on the development of people. In modern society he may not be a great person.

Secondly,The cloned boy may have had talent, but he also had his own personalities. He should have the right to do what he interests. He lives his own life. He will most likely develop a different personality.

4.Do you think cloning is against ethics? Why or why not?

Yes.

Firstly, the family,as it is now, would not exist. The whole meaning of “parent” would change.

Secondly, the way uesd for reproduction will be changed. It is against natural law. ”clone clans” might take the place of nations and races.

5.Can cloning prolong people's life? Why or why not?

NO.

The scientists found that the cloning animal’s Gene s has a little difference from the original animal. So the cloning life may be shorter than the real life. For example the cloning sheep Dolly has died. It only has the half life of the common sheep. I think it has same results if people clone themselves.

6.Should we legalize cloning? Why or why not?

Yes.

If we clone the human, there will be many problems, the population is the biggest problem. As we all know our population is a big question now.

then, some people may use the cloning people to start the war.

So we should legalize cloning.

Section Two Please have a group discussion on the following topic:

What are the pros and cons of cloning?

During the discussion you may argue with each other or ask each other questions to clarify a point. Your performance will be judged according to your contributions to the discussion.

Pros

1、It can help a lot for the patients. For example people can use cloning organs to replace dead organs.

2、Cloning means everyone could have a child. It would give new hopes to using cloning to get a kid for some

couples that cannot give birth to a baby.

3、you can get a copy person who lived with you but died recently to keep you company.

Cons

1、if it succeeds, it is likely to be at an unacceptably high price, many families can’t afford it.

2、Cloning, usually is very inefficient. First of all , most of the "clones" maybe die before birth . So, hundreds of

eggs and embryos will be wasted, and lots of women will go through difficult pregnancies resulting from abortions.

3、Some nations could use cloning to make armies, so that means there will be a third war.

4、Cloning can keep feared and dangerous leaders alive well (think about Hitler, Hussein.)

5、The cons are it could go wrong and you could end up with a deformed person which would be even worse than loosing the relative in the first place.

6、Cloning should not be used to keep good or bad people alive forever, clones just have the same DNA as their

parents, they are not the same person and will most likely develop a different personality.

口语大英四答案

Unit 1 Men and women’s prejudices Part I Read the following passage aloud. The very language we use to discuss men’s roles (i.e., deadbeat dads) shows a lack of appreciation for the majority of men who quietly yet proudly fulfill their family responsibilities. We almost never hear the term “working father,” and it is rare that calls for more workplace flexibility are considered to be for men as much as for women. Our society acts as if family obligations are not as important to fathers as they are to mothers —as if career satisfaction is what a man’s life is all about. Even more insulting is the recent media trend of regarding at-home wives as “status symbols” — like an expensive car — flaunted by the supposedly few men who can afford such a luxury. The implication is that men with at-home wives have it easier than those whose wives work outside the home because they have the “luxury” of a full-time housekeeper. In reality, however, the men who are the sole wage earners for their families suffer a lot of stresses. The loss of a job — or even the threat of that happening — is obviously much more difficult when that job is the sole source of income for a family. By the same token, sole wage earners have less flexibility when it comes to leaving unsatisfying careers because of the loss of income such a job change entails. In addition, many husbands work overtime or second jobs to make more money needed for their families. For these men, it is the family that the job supports that makes it all worthwhile. It is the belief that having a mother at home is important to the children, which makes so many men gladly take on the burden of being a sole wage earner. Part II. TOPIC Men and women’s prejudices Section One Each of the students will be asked one qu estion on the topic “Men and women’s prejudices and roles”. 1.What’s the division of labor like in your family? In my family, my father is responsible for the heavy and tired work like clean drain, garage, etc., the mother is responsible for some of the common household chores, such as cooking, washing clothes, cleaning, etc.I am responsible for helping my mother to do the housework, so dad is hard and tired. 1.Many people hold the view that men are different from women in many ways. What’s your opinion about it? Men and women are different. In the relationship, for example, men are more rational, while women are more emotional. And because the body structure is different, the responsibility of the men and women is different also, men generally responsible for the breadwinner, women generally responsible for providing a comfortable home. 1.How to be a good father?

The sea breezes wake you up and make you eat well and sleep well. The city was planned with straight roads, and these roads cross each other at right angles, making squares as they do in many American cities. Very often you can find yourself on top of a hill in the city, looking down one of these straight roads as it rises and falls on its journey through the town. A good way to travel these roads is by cable car. These are buses that run on rails in the ground up and down the steep hills.
