2021新高考版高考英语小题优练冲刺训练(三)阅读理解+七选五阅读+完型填空+语法填空Passage AThe start of the U.S. Atlantic hurricane season is just over two weeks away and forecasters are expecting particularly high activity this year. With warmer than usual conditions expected in the North Atlantic this summer, meteorologists (气象学者) have predicted that the season could produce eight or more hurricanes. While forecasters cannot predict how many hurricanes — if any — will make landfall, the potential for dangerous storms to strike the southern and eastern coasts brings an additional problem for authorities(专家) already struggling with the COVID-19.Experts say that the COVID-19 is affecting the capabilities of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other organizations involved in responding to natural disasters.Retired U-S. Army Lieutenant General Jeffrey Talley, who now leads global efforts on disaster management at IBM's Center for the Business of Government, said that with FEMA and other authorities engaged with responding to the COVID-19, resources will be limited if a hurricane strikes.“When we look at a disaster…I think of it in terms of how we prepare for, respond to and recover from those types of events,” Talley said “Right now we’re in the middle of the response of COVTD-19. None of us are really sure how long it's going to last and how the response to disasters is going to be different, say, two months from now, six months from now, so on and so forth,” he said.According to Talley, the COVID-19 could complicate the response to a hurricane by interrupting the flow of emergency supplies to areas where they are urgently needed at key moments.Social distancing and stay-at-home orders will also force authorities along the south and east coast to rethink how they manage people who must leave their homes in the event of a disaster. While many states are already lifting some lockdown restrictions, social distancing will still be important for many months to come.1.According to Talley, how could COVID-19 influence the response to a hurricane?A.More people will leave home to fight against a hurricane.B.Rescue materials might not reach disaster areas sometimes.C.Lockdown can greatly reduce damage and injury.D.The pandemic (流行病) makes it harder to predict hurricanes.2.What can we infer from the last paragraph?A.People throughout the country no longer need to stay at home.B.The state governments are confident about dealing with hurricanes.C.Authorities along the coasts will stick to the former orders.D.It is necessary to keep social distance in the coming months.3.What is the best title for the text?A.More Destructive Hurricanes to Be ExpectedB.More Difficult to Forecast Hurricanes ComingC.COVED-19 to Worsen Hurricane ResponseD.Social Distancing Needed in Coming MonthsPassage BAs we know, mental health is in a worse situation among young people globally. 1 This not only lowers quality of life, but has a negative impact on a teenager's growth. To get at the root causes of this decline, a group of scientists conducted a study and found the combination of high screen time and low "green time” greatly affects mental well-being. Children nowadays spend more time than ever in front of electronic devices. The average daily screen time for 8-to-18-year-olds was 7. 5 hours in the U. S. ten years ago. As the study states," This greatly goes above guidelines of 2 hours per clay. " Now the condition is worse by the fact that so many schools are using technology to teach classes. Indeed some screen time can promote connections and enable tasks to be done more efficiently. 2 In addition to troubling nerve stimulation, too much screen time takes the place of important protective behaviors for mental health such as physical activity, getting adequate sleep, and academic activities. The study authors suggest that green time could act as a cure for screen time, essentially balancing its negative effects. 3 The attention systems can be restored in natural environment when they are worn out, because they employ involuntary attention there, which is not tiring oreffortful.4 The great nature could potentially function as a psychological well-being promotion intervention(干预)children and teenagers in a high-lech era. This knowledge could be a guide to public health departments that are struggling to restore happiness and cheer in countless anxious teenagers.5 .A. Teenagers urgently need more green lime.B. Screen-based technology makes kids less attentive.C. The frequency of depression and anxiety is increasing.D. There are many more ways, nevertheless, in which it is harmful.E. It suggests more outdoor projects like building parks could be fundamental.F. Paying constant directed attention to screens can raise directed attention tiredness.G. This study highlights that nature may currently be a potential public health resource.Passage CA little boy almost thought of himself as the most 1 child in the world because he was born with a disability. We tend to blame TV, he says, for problems it doesn’t really cause, overlooking our own roles in shaping children’s minds. One traditional belief about television is that it reduces a child’s ability to think and to understand the world. While watching TV, children do not merely absorb words and images (影像). Instead, they learn both explicit and hidden meanings from what they see. Actually, children learn early the psychology of characters in TV shows. Furthermore, as many teachers agree, children understand far more when parents watch TV with them, explaining new words and ideas. Yet, most parents use an educational program as a chance to park their kids in front of the set and do something in another room.Another argument against television is that it replaces reading as a form of entertainment. But according to Anderson, the amount of time spent watching television is not related to reading ability. TV doesn’t take the place of reading for most children; it takes the place of similar sorts of recreation, such as listening to the radio and playing sports. Things like parents’educational background have a stronger influence on a child’s reading. “A child’s reading ability is best predicted by how much a parent reads.〞 Anderson says.Traditional wisdom also has it that heavy television-watching lowers IQ (智商) scores and affects school performance. But here, too, Anderson notes that no studies have proved it. In fact, research suggests that it’s the other way around. “If you’re smart young, you’ll watch less TV when you’re older,〞 Anderson says. Yet, people of lower IQ tend to be lifelong televisionviewers. For years researchers have attempted to show that television is dangerous to children. However, by showing that television promotes none of the dangerous effects as conventionally believed, Anderson suggests that television cannot be condemned without considering other influences. [2015GD_C]36. By watching TV, children learn ______.A. images through wordsB. more than explicit meaningsC. more about images than wordsD. little about people’s psychology37. An educational program is best watched by a child ______.A. on his ownB. with other kidsC. with his parentsD. with his teachers38. Which of the following is most related to children’s reading ability?A. Radio-listeningB. Television-watchingC. Parents’ reading listD. Parents’ educational background39. Anderson believed that ______.A. the more a child watches TV, the smarter he isB. the younger a child is, the more he watches TVC. the smarter a child is, the less likely he gets addicted to TVD. the less a child watches TV, the better he performs at school40. What is the main purpose of the passage?A. To advise on the educational use of TV.B. To describe TV’s harmful effects on children.C. To explain traditional views on TV influences.D. To present Anderson’s unconventional ideas.B(words: 480+181 time limit: 10’)If humans were truly at home under the light of the moon and stars, we would go in darkness happily, the midnight world as visible to us as it is to the vast number of nocturnal(夜间活动的) species on this planet. Instead,we are diurnal creatures, with eyes adapted to living in the sun’s light. This is a basic evolutionary fact, even though most of us don’t think of ourselves as diurnal beings. Yet it’s the only way to explain what we’ve done to the night: We’ve engineered it to receive us by filling it with light. The benefits of this kind of engineering come with consequences—called light pollution—whose effects scientists are only now beginning to study. Light pollution is largely the result of bad lighting design, which allows artificial light to shine outward and upward into the sky. Ill-designed lighting washes out the darkness of night and completely changes the light level—and light rhythms—to which many forms of life, including, ourselves, have adapted. Wherever human light spills into the natural world, some aspect of life is affected. In most cities the sky looks as though it has been emptied of stars, leaving behind a vacant haze(霾) that mirrors our fear of the dark. We’ve grown so used to this orange haze that the original glory of an unlit nigh—dark enough for the planet Venus to throw shadow on Earth, is wholly beyond our experience, beyond memory almost. We’ve lit up the night as if it were an unoccupied country, when nothing could be further from the truth. Among mammals alone, the number of nocturnal species is astonishing, Light is a powerful biological force, and on many species it acts as a magnet(磁铁). The effect is so powerful that scientists speak of songbirds and seabirds being “captured〞 by searchlights on land or by the light from gas flares on marine oil platforms. Migrating at night, birds tend to collide with brightly lit tall buildings.Frogs living near brightly lit highways suffer nocturnal light levels that are as much as a million times brighter than normal, throwing nearly every aspect of their behavior out of joint including most other creatures,we do need darkness .Darkness is as essential to our biological welfare, to our internal clockwork, as light itself.Living in a glare of our making, we have cut ourselves off from our evolutionary and cultural heritage—the light of the stars and the rhythms of day and night. In a very real sense light pollution causes us to lose sight of our true place in the universe, to forget the scale of our being, which is best measured against the dimensions of a deep night with the Milky Way—the edge of our galaxy arching overhead. This was one more weapon for her to defeat my strange problem — inability to read.In the library, I found my way into the “Children’s Room.〞 I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf at random. The cover of a book caught my eye. It presented a picture of a beagle. I had recently had a beagle, the first and only animal companion I ever had as a child. He was my secret sharer, but one morning, he was gone, given away to someone who had the space and the money to care for him. I never forgot my beagle. There on the book’s cover was a beagle which looked identical to my dog. I ran my fingers over the picture of the dog on the cover. My eyes ran across the title, Amos, the Beagle with a Plan. Unknowingly, I had read the title. Without opening the book, I borrowed it from the library for the summer.Under the shade of a bush, I started to read about Amos. I read very, very slowly withdifficulty. Though pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of the story about a dog who, like mine, had been separated from his family and who finally found his way back home. That dog was my dog, and I was the little boy in the book. At the end of the story, my mind continued the final scene of reunion, on and on, until my own lost dog and I were, in my mind, running together. My mother’s call returned me to the real world. I suddenly realized something: I had read a book, and I had loved reading that book. Everyone knew I could not read. But I had read it. Books could be incredibly wonderful and I was going to read them.I never told my mother about my “miraculous〞 (奇迹般地) experience that summer, but she saw a slow but remarkable improvement in my classroom performance during the next year. And years later, she was proud that her son had read thousands of books, was awarded a PhD in literature, and authored his own books, articles, poetry and fiction. My Passion for ReadingD (words: 429 + 204 time limit: 8’)A scientist working at her lab bench and a six-old baby playing with his food might seem to have little in common. After all,the scientist is engaged in serious research to uncover the very nature of the physical world, and the baby is,well, just playing…right?Perhaps, but some developmental psychologists have argued that this“play〞ismore like a scientific investigation than one might think.Take a closer look at the baby playing at the table. Each time the bowl of rice is pushed over the table edge, it falls in the ground—and, in the process, it belongs out important evidence about how physical objects interact ; bowls of rice do not flood in mid-sit, but require support to remain stable. It is likely that babies are not born knowing the basic fact of the universe; nor are they ever clearly taught it. Instead, babies may form an understanding of object support through repeated experiments and then build on this knowledge to learn even more about how objects interact. Though their ranges and tools differ, the baby’s investigation and the scientist’s experiment appear to share the same aim(to learn about the natural world), overall approach (gathering direct evidence from the world), and logic (are my observations what I expected?).Some psychologists suggest that young children learn about more than just the physical world in this way—that they investigate human psychology and the rules of languageusing similar means. For example, it may only be through repeated experiments, evidence gathering, and finally overturning a theory, that a baby will come to accept the idea that other people can have different views and desires from what he or she has, for example, unlike the child, Mommy actually doesn’t like Dove chocolate.Viewing childhood development as a scientific investigation throws on how children learn, but it also offers an inspiring look at science and scientists. Why do young children and scientists seem to be so much alike? Psychologists have suggested that science as an effort—the desire to explore, explain, and understand our world—is simply something that comes from our babyhood. Perhaps evolution provided human babies with curiosity and a natural drive to explain their worlds, and adult scientists simply make use of the same drive that served them as children. The same cognitive systems that make young children feel good about feel good about figuringsomething out may have been adopted by adult scientists. As some psychologists put it, 〞It is not that children are little scientists but that scientists are big children.〞[2016ZJ_C]50. I have thought long and hard about it and it’s true. I would be a different person if my mom hadn’t turned a silly bicycle accesso ry into a life lesson I carry with me today. My mother and father were united in their way of raising children, but it mostly fell to my mother to actually carry it out. Looking back, I honestly don’t know how she did it. Managing the family budget must ha ve been a very hard task, but she made it look effortless. If we complained about not having what another kid did, we’d hear something like, “I don’t care what so-and-so got for his birthday, you are not getting a TV in your room a car for your birthday a lavish sweet 16 party.” We had to earn our allowance by doing chores around the house. I can still remember how long it took to polish the legs of our coffee table. My brothers can no doubt remember hours spent cleaning the house. Like the two little girls growing up at the White House, we made our own beds(no one left the house until that was done) and picked up after ourselves. We had to keep track of our belongings, and if something was lost, it was not replaced. It was summer and, one day, my mother drove me to the bike shop to get a tire fixed—and there it was in the window, white, shiny, plastic and decorated with flowers, the basket winked at me and I knew—I knew—I had to have it.“It’s beautiful,” my mother said when I pointed it out to her,” What a neat basket.”I tried to hold off at first, I played it cool for a short while. But then I guess I couldn’t stand it any longer: “Mo m, please can I please, please get it? I’ll do extra chores for as long as you say, I’ll do anything, but I need that basket, I love that basket. Please, Mom. Please?”I was desperate.“You know,” she said, gently rubbing my back while we both stared at what I believe was the coolest thing ever,”If you save up you could buy this yourself.”“By the time I make enough it’ll b e g one!”“Maybe Roger here could hold it for you,” she smiled at Roger, the bike guy.“He can’t hold it for that long, Mom. Someone else will buy it. Please, Mom, Please?”“There might be another way,” she said. And so our paying plan unfolded. My mother bought the beautiful basket and put it safely in some hiding place I couldn’t find. Each week I eagerly counted my growing saving increased by extra work here and there(washing the car, helping my mother make dinner, delivering or collecting things on my bike that already looked naked without the basket in front). And then, weeks later, I counted, re-counted and jumped for joy. Oh, happy day! I made it! I finally had the exact amount we’d agreed upon....Days later the unthinkable happened. A neighborhood g irl I’d played with millions of times appeared with the exact same basket fixed to her shiny, new bike that already had all the bells and whistles. I rode hard and fast home to tell my mother about this disaster. This horrible turn of events. And then came the lesson. I’ve taken with me through my life: “Honey, Your basket is extra-special,” Mom said, gently wiping away my hot tears. “Your basket is special because you paid for it yourself.”55.What can we learn from the first two paragraphs? ______A.The children enjoyed doing housework B.The author came from s well-off familyC.The mother raised her children in an unusual way D.The children were fond of the US president’s daughters. 56.When the author saw the basket in the window, she ______.A.fell in love with it B.stared at her mother C.recognized it at once D.went up to the bike guy 57.Why did the author say many “please” to her mother? ______A.She longed to do extra work.B.She was eager to have the basket.C.She felt tired after standing too long.D.She wanted to be polite to her mother.58.By using “naked”(Paragraph 12), the author seems to stress that the basket was ______.A.something she could afford B.something important to herC.something impossible to get D.something she could do without59.To the author, it seemed to be a horrible turn of events that ______.A.something spoiled her paying plan B.the basket cost more than she had savedC.a neighborhood girl had bought a new bike D.someone else had got a basket of the same kind 60.What is the life lesson the author learned from her mother? ______A.Save money for a rainy day B.Good advice is beyond all price.C.Earn your bread with your sweat D.God helps those who help themselves话题1学校教育School Life & EducationPassage ABarditch High School decided to have an All-School Reunion. Ms. Mabel Yates, the English teacher for over fifty years, was wheeled to the Park. Some eyes rolled and there were a few low groans(嘟囔声) when Ms. Yates was about to speak. Many started looking at their watches and coming up with excuses to be anywhere instead of preparing to listen to a lecture from an old woman who had few kind words for her students and made them work harder than all the other teacherscombined. Then Ms. Yates started to speak:I can’t tell you how pleased I am to be here. I haven’t seen man y of you since your graduation, but I have followed your careers and enjoyed your victories as well as crying for your tragedies. I have a large collection of newspaper photographs of my students. Although I haven’t appeared in person, I have attended your college graduations, weddings and even the births of your children, in my imagination.”Ms. Yates paused and started crying a bit. Passage B(2005北京卷E)Of all systems of symbols, language is the most highly developed. It has been pointed out that human beings,by agreement, can make anything stand for anything. Human beings have agreed, in the course of centuries of mutual(相互的) dependency, to let the various noises that they can produce with their lungs, throats, tongues, teeth, and lips systematically stand for certain happenings in their nervous systems. We call that system of agreements language. There is no necessary connection between the symbol and that which it stands for. Just as social positions can be symbolized by feathers worn on the head, by gold on the watch chain, or by a thousand other things according to the culture we live in, so the fact of being hungry can be symbolized by a thousand different noises according to the culture we live in.However obvious these facts may appear at first glance, they are actually not so obvious as they seem except when we take special pains to think about the subject. Symbols and the things they stand for are independent of each other, yet we all have a way of feeling as if, and sometimes acting as if, there were necessary connections. For example, there are people who feel that foreign languages are unreasonable by nature; foreigners have such funny names for things, and why can’t they call things by their right names? This feeling exhibits itself most strongly in those English and American tourists who seem to believe that they can make the natives of any country understand English if they shout loud enough. Like the little boy who is reported to have said: “Pigs are called pigs because they are such dirty animals,”they feel that the symbol is inherently(内在地) connected in some way with the things symbolized.72.Language is a highly developed system of symbols because human beings _____.A.have made use of language for centuries B.use our nervous systems to support languageC.have made various noises stand for any events D.can make anything stand for anything by agreement 73.What can we conclude from Paragraph 2? ______A.Different noises may mean different things.B.Our culture determines what a symbol stands for.C.The language we use symbolizes our social positions.D.Our social positions determine the way we are dressed.74.In Paragraph 3, “take special pains” probably means “_____”.A.try very hard B.take our time C.are very unhappy D.feel especially painful 75.The example of the little boy is used to show that _____.A.adults often learn from their youngB.“pig” is a dirty word because pigs are dirtyC.words are not connected with the things they stand forD.people sometimes have wrong ideas about how language worksPassage C (2004重庆卷B)Since many of you are planning to study at a college or university in this country, you may be curious to know what you usually do in a typical week; how you can get along with your fellow students, and so o n. These are the questions I want to discuss with you today.First, let’s talk about wha t your weekly schedule will look like. No matter what your major may be, you can expect to spend between four and six hours a week for each class attending lectures. Lectures are usually in very large rooms because some courses such as introduction to sociology or economics often have as many as two or three hundred students, especially at large universities. In lectures, it’s very important for you to take notes on what the professor says because the information in a lecture is often different from the information in your textbooks. Also, you can expect to have exam questions based on the lectures. So it isn’t enough to just read your textbooks; you have to attend lectures as well. In a typical week you will also have a couple of hours of discussion for every class you take. The discussion section is a small group meeting usually with fewer than thirty students where you can ask questions about the lectures, the reading, and the homework. In large universities, graduate students, called teaching assistants, usually direct discussion sections. If your major is chemistry, or physics, or another science, you’ll also have to spend several hours a week in the lab, or laboratory, doing experiments. This means that science majors spend more time in the classroom than non-science majors do. On the other hand, people who major in subjects like literature or history usually have to read and write more than science majors do.59.The main purpose of this text is ______.A.to help the students to learn about university life B.to persuade the students to attend lecturesC.to encourage the students to take part in discussions D.to advise the students to choose proper majors 60.We can learn from the passage that university professors ______.A.spend about 5hours on lectures each week B.must join the students in the discussion sections C.prefer to use textbooks in their lectures D.require the students to read beyond the textbooks 61.A discussion section does NOT include ______.A.working under the guidance of university professorsB.talking over what the students have read about the coursesC.discussing the problems related to the students’ homeworkD.raising questions about what a professor has said in a lecture62.According to the author, science majors ______.A.spend less time on their studies than non-science majorsB.consider experiments more important than discussionsC.have to work harder than non-science majorsD.read and write less than non-science majorsPassage DAt first Kate thought the Romanian girl could not speak and understand English. Nadia would not reply to anything Kate said. Kate was in charge of showing Nadia around on her first day at Buckminster Grade School. Kate could not figure out why the school had put Nadia in a class where she could not understand what people were saying.“Why did they do this?” Kate wondered aloud. “I mean, you can’t learn if you can’t understand the teacher.”Nadia’s voice was a whisper. “I understand English. I will learn.” Nadia’s English was perfect.Kate was perplexed. She couldn’t understand why Nadia did not like to speak. Then she realized that moving to a new country probably wasn’t the easiest thing to do. There were hundreds of unfamiliar and unusual things to learn—all at the same time.“There’re a lot of new things to learn, huh?” said Kate.Nadia nodded rapidly. In a quiet voice she replied, “Many things people say, I do not understand. I have been speaking English and Romanian all my life, but I do not know what some children are saying. For example, yesterday a boy asked if I could help him find the USB port on a thin black box he was carrying. Isn’t a port a place for ships? It made no sense to me.”“Don’t worry,” said Kate. “You’ll figure everything out in time. You see, that thin black box was a computer.A USB port is a place where you can connect other machines to a computer.”Nadia and Kate were quiet after that. They took notes while the teacher gave a math lesson. To Kate’s surprise, Nadia put up her hand and offered to answer questions at the blackboard.Nadia handled every question the teacher gave her. Some of the questions were really difficult, and no one understood what was going on except Nadia and the teacher. When the teacher said that Nadia answered everything correctly, the whole class clapped their hands.Nadia was smiling when she sat back down next to Kate. “Some things,” she said in a normal voice, “are the same all over the world.”71.At the beginning of Nadia’s first day at school, she was _____.A.disappointed B.helpful C.lively D.shy72.The underlined word “perplexed” probably means_____.A.puzzled B.angry C.shocked D.serious73.We can infer from the passage that _____.A.Nadia did not like Kate B.Nadia had lived by the sea beforeC.Nadia had never seen a computer before D.Nadia spoke in a soft voice out of politeness 74.Which of the following statements is true? ______A.Nadia was better at math than other students.B.Nadia found some of the math questions difficult.C.Nadia was encouraged to answer questions in class.D.Nadia understood the math teacher better than other teachers.75.What is the message of the story? ______A.Talking about something familiar gives you confidence in communication.B.Answering questions in class makes you better understood by classmates.C.Language plays an important role in communication between cultures.D.Mathematics helps to improve communication between cultures.三、阅读表达阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题.I remember Julie coming to the front of the classroom after class one autumn day in September, 1976. While most of the other students hurriedly left to relax, Julie remained to ask me questions about the next week’s exam. But Julie never made it to the exam. The day after our conversation, she was struck by a car. The doctor said to Julie’s parents, “Your Julie has only a few hours to live. Would you consider donating some of Julie’s organs(器官)?”Julie’s mother said, “Yes. Julie always gave to others while she was alive. She would want to give in death. Knowing that in her death she gave the gift of life to others is comforting to us, and remembering that we carried out her wishe s has helped us deal with her death.”Julie’s mother continued to say, “You and Julie’s other friends and teachers were an important part of her life. Your teaching influenced her life, and you remind us that our love for Julie and Julie’s love for others are alive today.”As one of Julie’s professors, I hold the thought that I may have had a small part in teaching Julie how to live. It is possible that it grew out of the discovery that some people did certain kinds of work better than others did them. That led to the concept of specialization, which means that people would specialize, or focus, on doing one specific job. Let’s take a man we’ll call Mr. Fielder, for example. He did everything connected with farming. He planted seeds, tended the fields, and harvested and sold his crops. At the same time, he did many other jobs on the farm. However, he didn’t make the bricks for his house, cut his trees into boards, make the plows(犁), or any of the other hundreds of things a farm needs. Instead, he got them from people who specialized in doing each of those things. Suppose there was another man we shall call Mr. Plow right. Using what he knew about farming and working with iron, Mr. Plow right invented a plow that made farming easier. Mr. Plow right did not really like farming himself and wanted to specialize in making really good plows. Perhaps, he thought, other farmers will trade what they grow for one of my plows. How did Mr. Plow right let people know what was doing? Why, he advertised, of course. First he opened a shop and then he put up a sign outside the shop to attract customers. That sign may have been no more than a plow carved into a piece of wood and a simple arrow pointing to the shop door. It was probably all the information people needed to find Mr. Plow right and his really good plows. Many historians believe that the first outdoor signs were used about five thousand years ago. Even before most people could read, they understood such signs. Shopkeepers would carve into stone, clay, or wood symbols for the products they had for sale. A medium, in advertising talk, is the way you communicate your message. You might say that the first medium used in advertising was signs with symbols. The second medium was audio, or sound, although that term is not used exactly in the way we use it today. Originally, just the human voice and maybe some kind of simple instrument, such as a bell, were used to get people’s attention. A crier, in the historical sense, is not someone who weeps easily. It is someone, probably a man, with a voice loud enough to be heard over the other noises of a city. In ancient Egypt, shopkeepers might hire such a person to spread the news about their products. Often this earliest form of advertising involved a newly arrived ship loaded with goods. Perhaps the crier described the goods, explained where they came from, and praised their quality. His job was, in other words, not too different from a TV or radio commercial in today’s world. 41.What probably led to the start of advertising? ______ A.The discovery of iron. B.The specialization of labor. C.The appearance of new jobs. D.The development of farming techniques. 42.To advertise his plows, Mr. Plow right ______. A.praised his plows in public B.placed a sign outside the shop C.hung an arrow pointing to the shop D.showed his products to the customers 43.The writer makes up the two stories of Mr. Fielder and Mr. Plow right in order to ______.
