New York is one of the last large America n cities to have some of its policeme n on horseback. The New York police have 170 horses work ing in certa in parts of the city. The horses are expe nsive to feed, but it is eve n more expe nsive to look after them. Because the horses must walk on the streets, they n eed special hosreshoes.
