The sound of music
After watching the movie 《The sound of music》，I was fascinated by a word “ love ”. In my opinion, love is the basic theme of the film. The film expounds the theme “love”roundly and profoundly : love to nature, love to children, love to sweetheart, love to motherland.
Firstly, at the beginning of this film, Maria sang a song 《The sound of music》. Her facial expression showed her deep natural and true love to nature. She lived in the abbey, but she was not accustomed to the life there. She loved the nature, the grassland, the mountain, the trees, the wind, the sunshine and so on. In her world, everything was pure and zoetic. She enjoyed the time she spent with the nature. At that time, she was happy. Because she loved the nature, she could show herself vividly without any restriction. And she even forgot the time. How deeply she loved the nature. If anyone did not love the nature, he could not do like this. He could not bear anything related to the nature. He could not be happy. So there was no doubt that Maria did love the nature deeply.
Secondly, as a governess, Maria was made fun of several times by seven children. Each of them was mischievous. They did not like her, even hated her. So they did not listen to her. She did not approve of their lifestyle. She thought that children should live a happy life and have pleasant breakfast with their family together. When they were happy, they could just laugh; when they were sad, they could ask for someone for help; when they stayed with their father, they could talk more with him. Fortunately, she did not give up. Instead, she taught them to sing and how to sing. She taught them to use music to express their feelings. In a word, she used her patience and love to take care of these seven children all the time. This was the true love to children and also the reason why children loved Maria too and she could be their mother.
Thirdly, Maria and the leading male were not satisfied with each other at first. He did not like her clothes, her behavior and her lifestyle. She also did not understand the way he taught his children. She thought that children were just children and should not live like adults. However，after a series of communication, they knew more about each other. She knew that he was a good father, even though he was very strict with his children. That was just a father’s way to develop his children. He also knew that she was virtuous, especially when he heard the sound of the music sung by children and Maria. Finally, they fell in love. Though they were confronted with some difficulties including the war, they still understood and encouraged each other. So they were still together. This was the true love to sweet heart.
Finally, the leading male’s love to his motherland was most respectable. Near the end of this film, he sang 《Edelweiss》in front of audience. His soulful eyes and voice conveyed his sincere love and loyalty to his motherland completely. He could choose to take part in the war, but he did not. As a individual, he knew that his own power was limited. He could not resist because his resistance was meaningless. He could not change his country’s situation, so he chose to leave. This was a kind of silent protest. He loved his country, so he did not want to be a slave since he could not rescue his country. He gave up all that he had and left away with his family. This needed enough courage, but he did it. This was the true love and loyalty to motherland.
Love is the eternal theme of humanity. The film explains the theme quite well. It is also worth watching.
