林明金：请点评Money Making Schemes
导读：新生开学季是学校一年中最热闹的时候，同时也是校园推销(sales promotion)疯狂时。你是否曾“被推销”过？或是也曾向新生推销过商品？
The move-in day is a good time to sell many products to college freshmen, from daily necessities to yearlong passes for tourist spots. The sales people are students from higher grades. They are allowed to enter dorm buildings and know how to pal up with their peers quickly. Many upperclassmen grab this time to make a fast buck, and more importantly, to acquire early experience in business. 21st Century reporter Xu Jingxi and campus correspondent Li Qiang interviewed these sales people on campus to see what career lessons they had learned. Correspondent Liu Xidan shares her personal experience too.
高校入学日也正是向新生们推销各式各样商品的最佳时机，从日常生活用品到旅游景点年票，可谓应有尽有。而这些推销员都是来自高年级的学生。他们可以进入学生宿舍楼内，并很清楚怎样尽快地与同龄人打成一片。许多高年级学生都会抓住这个机会挣外快，而更为重要的是，他们还可以提前取得一些生意经。《21世纪英文报》记者许靖烯（音译）联同校园通讯员李强（音译）采访了一些校园推销员，来看看他们从中学到了哪些职业知识。本报刘希丹（音译）在这里也分享了她个人的经历。
Zeng Renhui, 19

The smart salesperson put herself in the freshman’s shoes and figured out a new way to sell the SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards.
这位聪明的推销员站在新生的角度，想出一种出售手机SIM卡的新方式。
“When I was a freshman, I felt awkward when an upperclassman walked into my dorm and sold things to me,” Zeng recalled. “It was impossible for me to build trust with the student in such a short time.”
“我刚上大一时，当遇到一位高年级学生走进宿舍向我推销商品时，我觉得很尴尬。”曾仁惠回忆说，“在如此短的时间内，我没法和这位同学建立起信任。”
Zeng is the administrator of one of the QQ groups of the freshmen in her university. She had been communicating with the freshmen for the whole summer vacation and thus had won their trust.
在大学里，曾仁惠是一个新生QQ聊天群的管理员。整个暑假她都和这些新生进行沟通交流，自然也就取得了他们的信任。
She made full use of the social network she built online and promoted her SIM card business in the QQ group. Zeng has of course created a roaring trade.
她充分利用自己建立起来的网络社交圈，在QQ群里推销她的手机SIM卡生意。曾仁惠的销售业绩则然是一路高升。
Liuxidan, 19
刘希丹，19岁

The fan of 21st Century applied to be a campus sales agent for the weekly and was employed as the team leader. Liu was freed from door-to-door sales, but she still had to deal with challenging situations.
作为《21世纪英文报》的忠实读者，刘希丹申请成为该周报的校园代理并成功应聘为该团队的组长。刘希丹不用上门推销，但她同样需要英文很多富有挑战的状况。
Freshmen constantly changed their minds. Frequently they asked for a refund, because of untrustworthy hearsay that people who sold newspapers were all thieves, or another lame excuse.
新生们总是惠改变主意。他们经常会因为听信一些不靠谱的道听途说，譬如推销报纸的人都是骗子，或是用一些其他蹩脚的理由来要求退订。
Liu wasn’t able to cancel the subscription after issuing the invoice. She was stressed. “You need to be calm, patient and resourceful,” said Liu.
开具发票后，刘希丹就无法取消订阅了。这时她往往会倍感压力，她说：“此时你就需要冷静，有耐心和足智多谋。”
She kept smiling when facing unfriendly freshmen and patiently shared her personal experiences of reading the weekly.
当面对那些不是很友好的新生，她保持微笑并耐心地分享自己阅读《21世纪英文报》的经历。
Liu also sent free sample papers to teachers, who could serve as a credible reference.
刘希丹也会给老师们送一些免费的样报，老师也可以做出可靠性推荐。

The sophomore had an eye for items that would sell well. He chose to sell locks instead of phone cards and newspapers, because it was more difficult to persuade freshmen to pay a hundred to subscribe to a paper for a year, than to spend only several bucks on useful locks.
这位大二学生在寻找畅销商品方面眼光独到。他选择推销的产品是锁具，而并非电话卡或报纸，因为对于大一新生而言，说服他们花上百来元订阅一年的报纸显然要比让他们花几块钱来买把用得上的锁更困难。At first, Xu patiently found topics to engage the freshmen in chitchats, having looked at tips online about getting close to the customers.
起初，徐冰川耐心地搜索能和新生打得火热的话题，并上网搜寻如何和客户套近乎的小诀窍。
But it didn’t work well. He met with cold shoul ders most of the time.
但这招好像并不怎么管用。大多时候他都会遭遇冷眼。
Luckily, Xu had been prepared for the challenge. “My intention was to see how difficult it could be to set up a business,” said Xu, who would like a job in marketing or sales after graduation.
幸好徐冰川已准备好迎接这一挑战。徐冰川希望在毕业后做市场营销或销售方面的工作，他说：“我就是为了想看看做成一份生意到底会有多难。”
Being thick-skinned is necessary for a successful salesperson. Xu held on and adjusted his strategies. He gradually discovered that it’s better to cut loose and promote goods from the very beginning.

“Freshmen nowadays are smart. They know your intention and hate hearing you beating about the bush,” said Xu. 徐说：“现在的新生都很精明。他们知道你的意图，而你喋喋不休的推销只会引起他们的厌烦。” “Being an armchair strategist doesn’t work. This is a useful lesson.”

Can you imagine treating 12 friends to a meal with only 35 yuan to spend?

Or could you take a trip to Tibet with only 500 yuan in your pocket? Can you imagine producing a short film on a
budget of 3,000 yuan?
你能在兜里只揣着500元钱就完成一趟西藏之旅吗？你能想象到只用3000元预算来制作完成一部短片吗？
Well, you might say it’s impossible because these things require loads of money.
当然，你可能会说这根本不可能，因为做这些事都需要花很多钱。
But Qiao Xiaodao, a 36-year-old folk artist, proves it’s all possible in his book The Good Life Doesn’t Have to Cost a
Fortune.
但是36岁的民间艺人乔小刀在自己的书《好的生活没有那么贵》中证明了这一切皆有可能。
“People like to say that ‘I will do something once I have got enough cash’, but you should never let money
become an obstacle to enjoying a happy life,” he said.

Qiao, a migrant worker who came from a village in Heilongjiang province to Beijing in 1998, has led a cheap but
fascinating life.

The welder-turned-artist has put on his own design work exhibition, started a rock band with his (then) 8-year-old nephew, and released his own CD record.

Qiao has demonstrated how “a little bit of thrift, ingenuity and creativity” can go a long way, to creating a good life even without a big budget.
乔小刀用亲身经历展示了“几分勤俭，机智和创新”是如何在没有充足预算的情况发挥作用创造美好生活的。“There’s a misconception that nothing can be done with little money, but actually things can still be accomplished,” he explained.

Qiao’s recipe for success includes finding discarded resources and “doing the most with the least”.

If you’re extremely short of funds, he may advise you to go to the 27 secondhand and f lea markets that he frequented in Beijing.

That’s just how Qiao furnished his own faddish art studio, with each piece of his furniture costing below 20 yuan on average.

Anyway, a combination of antique pieces provides a stylish environment for him, his friends, and clients to meet up.

Once he gave life to some junk and turned it into art work.

Another time, he laid a table at home and served a dozen, home-cooked dishes. The ingredients, vegetables and meat, cost 35 yuan in the grocery market.
一次，他在家中设宴请客，做了12道家常菜。他在杂货市场购买的这些原料，蔬菜和肉，一共花了35元。Qiao hopes to make clear that he’s not promoting a cheap life, or a sking young people to live like monks.

“I just want people to have the chance to enjoy a comfortable life which is within their reach and costs no more than the money in their pockets,” he said.

In Qiao’s eyes, those who have the idea that it requires a lot of money to live a good life, have misunderstood the meaning of happiness.
在乔小刀的眼中，那些认为“过好日子，需要很多钱”的人们误解了幸福的涵义。
As for himself, a good life could be stripped down to its simplest form.
对他来说，美好生活可以精简成最简单的形式。
“A happy life in essence means that you are able to feed yourself every day, to have spare money to make your recent dream come true, and to get along well with family members,” said Qiao.
“幸福生活的本质就是每天你可以喂饱自己，还有闲钱去实现自己近期的梦想，并且能和家人相处融洽，”
乔小刀说道。
He reckons those who find it hard to be happy have raised the bars too high.
他认为那些苦于找不到快乐的人们其实是把幸福门槛设得太高了。
He also warned young people not to put off their dreams for lack of money, since many people spend years struggling to get their career and social status established first.
大多数人为了先成就事业及社会地位而苦苦奋斗多年，因此他提醒年轻人不要因为缺钱而放弃梦想。“After years of struggle, they’ll regret not having taken the opportunity to enjoy life,” he said.

Now, as the founder of Tiny Salt (Weibozhiyan), a café chain and a platform for emerging musicians and artists to showcase their talent in Beijing and Shanghai, he’s giving speeches in 20 colleges nationwide to promote his idea. 如今，作为连锁咖啡店品牌微薄之盐的创始人，他在国内20所高校发表了演讲推广他的理念，微薄之盐同时也是京沪两地新兴音乐家、艺术家展示才艺的平台。
Although many students are enchanted by his ideas, some still question if his time or labor consuming low-cost plans have feasibility for all.

When US’ Duke University sophomore Christian Drappi sees someone using a Square (an electronic payment service) credit card reader, he pulls out his phone, snaps a picture and uploads it to Twitter.

Companies like Red Bull, Microsoft, Verizon and Twitter all have campus ambassadors dedicated to spreading good news about the brand.

“Three or four years ago, brand ambassadors on campus were a novel idea. Now companies have them everywhere. There’s only so much mindshare to capture,” McCathy said.

In school, a lot of pretty girls or handsome boys are more likable, most of partys need their participation.Even if they aren’t achievements than other students, but many examiners will consider the appearance of candidates have been hired,In the store, these look nice tings, the price will be higher. In many cases, the same food placed in different places or packaging materials, its value is not the same. To some extent, beauty can increase the value.
To my mind, a person's looks is impossible to ignore, as Professor Hamermesh said his new book, based on his research,. I believe that, there is no denying on good looks has more opportunities than less attractive workers, such as party invites, business travel and office privileges. As a result, they may have more perks and higher pay packets than their plainer colleagues.
However, as an old says, “If you are a gold, so that, Gold will glitter.”. So no matter whether you have a good looks or not, it is very important on education, work experience and ability. As time flows, your advantage will show. Hence, it is crucial, how do you go through this difficult period—you are not beauty, you have little chance such as party invites, business travel and office privileges.
To some extent,It is an normal things that the one who has a beauty looking can have an advantagement in some things, like in job hunting.Why?Because we all look some person by his looking at frist meetig, besides,we don't know anything.
Some people may think that it is unfair to person ,especially those who have a bad looking .But,I don't think it.If we have genuine ability,we also can get a ideal job and create our worth. Now,we look the person who get the job by beauty looking only,on one hand,theyselves will feel anxious about the work if they won't study. On the other hand,the boss will also feel disappointed to you.
So,if you have a beauty looking ,you are lucky,and you must study hardly too.And as for the other persons,it also has many chance if you are enough outstanding.
