pros and cons of globalization

1. Globalization

Globalization refers to the absence of the walls of matchboxes that every country had, between themselves based on suspicion, mutual distrust and ambition. We were different countries, in fact divided into worlds, and therefore could never manage to deal with natural holocausts and deadly epidemics, which time and again challenged us. Globalization has strengthened the nexus and has helped us to know each other’s need in a better way. It has helped to demolish those walls that separated us and curbed our natural identity of being fellow human beings. Globalization has primarily become a fiscal term but its impact is not limited to the economy of the countries only, the term globalization actually refers to every aspect of life like cultural, social, psychological and of course, political. It is true that the impact of globalization is visible and affects largely the politics and the economy of the country but its effect on the mindset and the culture is noticeable gradually in the way peopl e think and react. It’s like the Iceberg theory wherein what we do and say are at the tip and what we think and believe is at the base. The base is not visible but manifestations at the top are conspicuous. It applies here as well where people do not change abruptly but may be after a decade the change starts showing and seems radical.

(1)Pro-globalization

Globalization is not a new phenomena, the base was laid long back when the Dutch East India Company and the British East India Company started trading with India. In history there were trade relations between different countries like Arab and Egypt and now in modern times that has translated into Globalization or Free Trade. It’s true that ultimately all the free trade resulted in the white man taking the burden proactively but then globalization leads to more employment and higher standard of living, especially among the developing countries. Theories suggest that globalization leads to efficient use of resources and benefits all who are involved.

According to libertarians, globalization will help the whole world to deal with crises like unemployment and poverty. It will help us to raise the global economy only when the involved power blocks have mutual trust and respect for each other’s opinion. Globaliza tion and democracy should go hand in hand. It should be pure business with no colonialist designs. The way we have developed in the last 10 years, globalization seems to have given us good returns. Globalization has made the life of the third world citizen completely a different story. There are so many foreign companies that have made way to Orient and have made India a brand name all over the world.

The pros of Globalization are many and they are as follows:

? Now there is a worldwide market for the compa nies and for the people there is more access to products of different countries.

? There is a steady cash flow into the developing countries, which gradually

decrease the dollar difference.

? Due to the presence of a worldwide market, there is an incre ase in the production sector and there are lots of options for the companies now.

? Gradually there is a world power that is being created instead of compartmentalized power sectors. Politics is merging and decisions that are being taken, are actually beneficial for people allover the world.

? There is more influx of information between two countries, which do not have anything in common between them.

? There is cultural intermingling and each other is trying to know about the other’s cultural prefere nces and in the process of doing so, we are actually coming across things that we like and in the course of time adopt it.

? Since we share financial interests, corporate and governments are trying to sort out ecological problems for each other.

? Soci ally we have become more open and tolerant towards each other and they who live in the other part of the world are not aliens as we always thought. There are examples like now Indian girls work in call centers and work nights, which was a taboo even two ye ars back. We are celebrating Valentine’s Day, scraping on Orkut, watching the Idol series, Fear factor, the Indian version Big Brother. ? There is a lot of technological development that we have undergone over the years. There are fewer brain drains since Asians are working in their own country though for a foreign company but are earning foreign exchange for their country.

(2)Cons- globalization

Obligation has made way for free trade and business and has communication between various parts of the globe. It has potential to make this world a better place to live in. It is changing the political scenario thus deep-seated problems like unemployment; poverty and shift in power are coming to the picture. The marginal are getting a chance to exhibit in the world market. The term "brand" is catching up in the Asian countries.

It, however, is not only modernizing but also westernizing and to an extent also sanitize the native cultures. The power play is leading to the linguicide or linguistic, cultural and traditional genocide. That is probably where we need to keep a check and not let diffusion go wild. There has been significant de-localization that needs individuals to be more tolerant since face-to-face interaction is no more the order of the day. One American is trying to sort out his billing issue of his mobile phone with an Indian who is not a direct employee of the service provider. Now that sounds complicated and is complicated and has to be dealt carefully.

There are cons as many as pros, which are as follows:

?It is true that Europeans are losing jobs and that is posing a problem for them since the companies are outsourcing work to the Asian countries since the cost of labor is low and profits the company considerably.

? There is immense pressure on th e employed Europeans who are always under the threat of the business being outsourced.

?Corporate are building up units in other countries equally well equipped as they have done at their own country, thus transferring the quality to other countries.

?There are some experts who think that globalization; along with the positive aspects is also leading to the incursion of negatives like communicable diseases and social degeneration.

? Ther e is also a threat of corporate ruling the world because there is a lot of power, which is invested in them due to globalization.

? For nations that are at the receiver’s end are also giving up the reins in the ends of a foreign company which might again lead to a sophisticated form of colonization.

2. Alvin Toffler and his Wave Theory

Alvin Toffler, was born in 1928, one of the world’s preeminent futurists, is best known for his first international best seller, Future Shock﹙1970﹚, but has written many books since, including The Third Wave﹙1980﹚, about the massive wave of change we're going through at the moment; unparalleled in human history, according to Toffler. It's a theme which has dominated his thinking for the past 10 or 15 years.

Alvin Toffler has influenced and advised world leaders. He wrote about the prospects of outsourcing, the communications revolution and corporate restructuring years before anyone else cottoned on. Toffler worked in factories after he went to university then went into journalism in Washington. But he's really made his mark as a writer and thinker, always in collaboration with his wife.

The term “future shock” was first used by Alvin Toffler in 1965 in an article published in Horizon. Toffler coined this term to describe a state of stress and disorientation (the loss of sense of direction) caused by too quick a succession of changes in society. After that, he spent 5 years visiting scores of universities, research centers, laboratories, and government agencies, reading countless articles and scientific papers and interviewing hundreds of experts on different aspects of change, coping behavior, and the future. Then he came to the following two conclusions: First, “future shock is no longer a distantly potential danger, but a real sickness from which increasingly large numbers already suff er.” Second, people know very little about adaptively. That is to say, “in the most rapidly changing environment to which man has ever been exposed, we remain pitifully ignorant of how the human animal copes.”

In 1970, Alvin Toffler published the book Fu ture Shock. “This is a book about what happens to people when they are overwhelmed (overcome completely) by

change. It is about the ways in which we adapt—or fail to adapt—to the future.” “The purpose of this book is to help us come to terms with the futur e—to help us cope more effectively with both personal and social change by deepening our understanding of how men respond to it.”

3. The Jewish Day of Atonement

Yom Kippur (Hebrew: (IPA: [?jom ki?pur]), also known as Day of Atonement, is the holiest and most solemn day of the year for the Jews. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jews traditionally observe this holy day with a 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services. Yom Kippur completes the annual period known in Judaism as the High Holy Days or Yamim Nora'im ("Days of Awe"). Yom Kippur is the tenth day of the month of Tishrei. According to Jewish tradition, God inscribes each person's fate for the coming year into a book, the Book of Life, on Rosh Hashanah, and waits until Yom Kippur to "seal" the verdict. During the Days of Awe, a Jew tries to amend his or her behavior and seek forgiveness for wrongs done against God (bein adam leMakom) and against other human beings (bein adam lechavero). The evening and day of Yom Kippur are set aside for public and private petitions and confessions of guilt (Vidui). At the end of Yom Kippur, one considers oneself absolved by God.

The Yom Kippur prayer service includes several unique aspects. One is the actual number of prayer services. Unlike a regular day, which has three prayer services (Ma'ariv, the evening prayer; Shacharit, the morning prayer; and Mincha, the afternoon prayer), or a Shabbat or Yom Tov, which have four prayer services (Ma'ariv; Shacharit; Mussaf, the additional prayer; and Mincha), Yom Kippur has five prayer services (Ma'ariv; Shacharit; Musaf; Mincha; and Ne'ilah, the closing prayer). The prayer services also include a public confession of sins (Vidui) and a unique prayer dedicated to the special Yom Kippur avodah (service) of the Kohen Gadol in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

As one of the most culturally significant Jewish holidays, Yom Kippur is observed by many secular Jews who may not observe other holidays. Many secular Jews attend synagogue on Yom Kippur—for many secular Jews the High Holy Days are the only recurring times of the year in which they attend synagogue,—causing synagogue attendance to soar.

全球化的利与弊 Economic globalization(英汉)

All over the world about globalization, some people think that it is the invention, some people see its negative effects. Economic advantages and disadvantages: With the arrival of electronic money, it's very convenient for investment, click, a lot of money from one country to flow into another country. It opened up new avenues of personal investment. To improve the labor mobility, and thus opened an employment and training. Competitive price and service to the improvement, such as door-to-door and after-sales service. Globalization leads to a single market, so that the market in the country is more exploitation. Only 300 companies is one-third of global output, accounting for half of the international trade. While food production is controlled by 12 companies. Poverty and labor group is excluded. Instability in 1997 in Europe, selling gold reserves rumours that South Africa is 5 million miners unemployment. This is the domino effect. Supply risk in growth, has neglected the diversity of products on the market. Politically, the European Union and the United Nations organization such as power in the world, which can be expanded in the decision on the stage of the multinational corporation offset. Multinational force helps to control the media injustices, helps countries freedom of speech.

Globalization in my eyes Globalization has penetrated into all aspects of our life around the world. We can see it everywhere and anytime. It benefits our life a lot. In view of going out to play, globalization in economy makes it convenient for people to travel all over the world and enjoy wonderful scenes in different places. Besides, globalization in food gives eating lovers chances to taste different foods easily. And globalization in industry creates more wisdom and has deep influence on the development of industry, etc. However, there are also disadvantages during the process of globalization. On the one hand, more and more Chinese people are used to the foreign lifestyle, and they usually celebrate foreign holidays instead of our traditional ones. On the other hand, globalization has a great impact on our national products. There is a sense among people that foreign goods are better than goods made in China. Last but not least, it enlarge the distance between the developing countries and the developed countries, which is bad for the global harmony. In my eyes, globalization is a two-edged sword. If we master it validly, we can create a new world, or what wait us is destroy.

全球化(globalization)

Good morning, everyone! I am deeply honored to give this speech, today, what I want to say is the impact of globalization and the attitude we should hold. In most people’s minds, globalization refers to the unimpeded flows of capital, labor and technology across national borders, the world is gradually becoming a whole, connected and indivisible. Globalization is the inevitable trend of the development of human society, and it is changing the world. In the era of economic globalization, cross-border transactions are everywhere. Many people engage in abroad business, as a result, some people’s national awareness gradually turns to be very weak. There are even some people saying that national identity makes no difference for them. I don't agree with this idea at all. There is a saying that businessmen feel at home wherever they are. However,as a matter of fact, each businessman has only one home, the place where he was born and grew up.Cite an example,a Chinese who has been working overseas for many years can't lose his sense of national awareness to China because of the long time stay in the overseas.Working abroad gives him the material life he wants, but his roots are still in China, which is his emotional attribution. He is a Chinese wherever he is,this sense of belonging can’t be lost. As borders and national identities become less important, some find that threatening and even dangerous.Harvard Professor Samuel Huntington describes Davos Man as an emerging global superspecies and a threat in an essay. He says that these people have little need for national loyalty, view national boundaries as obstacles. As far as I am concerned, endorse a global outlook does not mean erasing national identity. On the surface, they left their country, in fact, they not only drove the development of their own national economy, but also made a huge contribution to the development of the world economy. This has largely reflected their patriotic feelings. The process of globalization is accompanied by opportunities and challenges .It promotes the development of human society, but also brings some disasters to the world. The terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11,2001 ,which is considered an example of the disaster of globalization, brought huge losses to the United States, and brought a warning to the world. Globalization fatigue is still much in evidence in Europe and America, while in places like China and India, globalization has brought a huge opportunity for their development.

Nowadays we can enjoy the same films, fashions, brands, advertisements and TV channels. The evident difference between countries is disappearing. To what extent do you think the disadvantages overweight the advantages of this? Globalization creates conditions for widening international exchanges, strengthening mutual understanding between nations, expanding cultural, educational, and scientific cooperation between nations and countries, enjoying the cultural achievements of people around the world which encourages the process of modernization and the enrichment of national culture. However, these conditions also create the possible danger of diminishing the national culture with a negative impact on the pre123vation of national identity. Through globalization and an open door policy, erroneous concepts and a lowering of ethical standards, a selfish and individualistic lifestyle and harmful cultural products can easily be imported into the country. At present, modern information technology which in the main is controlled by US is hourly and intensively disseminating US ideology, way of life, culture and films across the world. Even US food is promoted so that some people consider globalization as global Americanization. During the process of economic globalization, inequality between developed and developing countries has been increasing and the gap between the rich and the poor has become wider, most of the result of globalization go to assist developed countries. Globalization does not pose equal interests and risks to all nations. With an overwhelming advantage compared to most of the developing countries in terms of finance and the level of science and technology, developed ca123alist countries control the situation of economic globalization. For these reasons, globalization is a fierce and complicated struggle in both cultural and ideological fields. We take the initiative in international economic integration but also have to take the initiative in fighting to keep our distinct culture resisting pro-foreign and cross-bred phenomena, and overcoming the psychology of preferring money over ethical values.

大学英语作文 globalization Just as we know, the development of globalization brings tremendous positive effects to the whole world. It gives a chance not only for developed countries but also developing countries. Particularly,it brings the large favor for the world’s poor. To begin with, globalization makes capital and labor mobility greater than before. The poor, who live in the developing countries, can choose to work in some foreign corporations which can pay the higher salaries for them. They will improve the situations of their lives and make their children enjoy better education than ever. As capital and labor become more mobile, international tax competition rises. So many governments have to cut tax rates. As a result, tax systems around the world become more efficient, economic output and incomes will rise.

globalization

First of all, it has been asserted that globalization provides the increasing of productivity and life standard of societies. To begin with productivity is indeed increased as it can be seen that the population of the world is rising rapidly even uncontrollable and more people means that there is a need of more product too. Thus Globalization responds the needs of 7 billion people. Moreover the standards of life is a lot better than 50 years ago as they are more machines and systems invented in developed countries supporting all world. However there is another side of the facts. Globalization causes the poor citizens having more requirements. Secondly cultural intermingling is enlarging with globalization which lets the people from all over the world able to communicate easier. On the other hand sharing traditional behaviors cause them fading as boundaries are disappearing. The most important disadvantage of globalization is the increasing number of the loafer. After the industrial revolution, industry gravitated some particular countries. Because of that, these countries became a power in industry. However production decreased and so unemployment was raised in the other countries. Another reason of the unemployment rise is that the need of less manpower. As stated at Wikipedia, many workers found themselves suddenly unemployed, as could no longer compete with machines which only required relatively limited work to produce more product than a single worker.
