Inscription for the Simple Cottage
A mountain doesn't have to be high; if a sage lives there, it will be famous. A body of water doesn't have to be deep; if a dragon lives in it, the water will be spirited. This is a simple cottage; my moral values spread its reputation like a fragrant perfume. Green moss grows on my front steps; green grass shines on my front curtain. Those who visit with me are erudite scholars; I associate with no illiterate commoners. Here I can play simple music and read precious volumes. There is no uncouth noise to disturb my ears, and no official documents arrive to tire me. This house is like Zhu Geliang's grass hut in Nanyang and Yang Xiong's house in Xishu. Confucius says, "What is simple and crude about this kind of house and owner?"
陋室铭
山不在高，有仙则名。水不在深，有龙则灵。斯是陋室，惟吾德馨。苔痕上阶绿，草色入帘青。谈笑有鸿儒，往来无白丁。可以调素琴，阅金经。无丝竹之乱耳，无案牍之劳形。南阳诸葛庐，西蜀子云亭。孔子云：何陋之有？
