The Gilroy Garlic (大蒜) Festival started with a "crazy idea" by Dr. Rudy Melone.

In 1978,Melone,the President of Gavilan College in Gilroy, read an article in a newspaper which was about a small town in France. The town hosted a garlic festival every year and regarded itself as the "Garlic Capital of the World".He doubted that Gilroy's garlic production and processing were far greater. In fact, Christopher Ranch was then the largest shipper of garlic in the world.

The first Gilroy Garlic Festival was held at Bloomfield Ranch in 1979.Rudy Melone served as the president;Don

Christopher supplied all the garlic from his;and Val Filice was the head chef. They got about 50 community volunteers to help them and decided to give all the profits back to the community.Festival organizers weren't sure at first if anyone would come, but were quickly shocked by the number of visitors.Despite all the chaos, the first Gilroy Garlic Festival served over 15,000 guests and produced $19, 000 for the local community.

Devon Gallagher, a college graduate from Philadelphia, wants the world to know exactly where she’s been while she’s on her worldwide vacation in a special way. The traveler, who was born with a bone disease, had her right leg amputated (截肢) at the age of four. Although the amputation caused inconvenience for Gallagher early on, she now sees it as nothing short of inspiration for living her best life.

To spread that message. Gallagher has gone to social media, where she shares photos of her travels across the world, but

instead of simply using a geo-tag(地理位置标签), she writes her location on her artificial leg before taking a picture.

Now she has been taking pictures across the Continent, which show her cycling over the canal in Amsterdam relaxing on a wall overlooking the city of Barcelona, posing with a waffle in Brussels, taking in the beautiful Parthenon temple in Athens and enjoying a river ride in Budapest, all with the well-known locations written on her artificial leg.

“I get a new leg every two years and I can choose the design on it. One day I had a sudden thought to get a chalkboard,” Gallagher said. “My mum and grandmother didn’t like the idea, but my friends thought it was great and told me to go for it, so I did.”

Gallagher said people often stare when she’s writing on her leg, but once she shares the photos, she receives only positive feedback( 反馈), “My leg hasn’t stopped me from doing anything I’ve wanted to do,”she said. “I don’t know if it’s my determination to prove to myself that I can do it, anyway, I’ve been able to keep up with people at my age and lead a pretty great life.”

Gallagher shows us that you should never let anything stand in the way of your dreams. And if life gives you an artificial leg, make art.

12. What message did Gallapher want to spread in her special way?

A. She enjoys her travelling across the globe.

B. She suffers little from her leg’s amputation.

C. she looks on her misfortune as another form of blessing.

D. She has exactly fallen in love with posting photos online.

D. the location

14. Gallapher can best be described as .

Public Speaking Training

Get a coach

16 ,so get help. Since there are about a billion companies out there all ready to offer you public speaking training and courses, here are some things to look for when deciding the training that’s right for you.

Focus on positives

Any training you do to become more effective at public speaking should always focus on the positive aspects of what you already do well. Nothing can hurt confidence more than being told that you aren’t doing well. 17 , so good public speaking training should develop those instead of telling you what you shouldn’t do.

18

If you find a public speaking course that looks as though it’s going to give you lots of dos and don’ts, walk away! Your brain is so full of what you’re going to be talking about. 19 . As far as we’re concerned, there are basically no hard and fast rules about public speaking. Your audience can be your friends.

You are a special person not a clone

Most importantly, good public speaking training should treat you as a special one, with your own personal habits. 20 . Your training course should help you bring out your personality, not try to turn you into someone you’re not.

A. You aren’t like anybody else

B. You already do lots of things well

C. Turn your back on too many rules

D. Practise speaking whenever possible

E. Whatever the presentation, public speaking is tough

F .The one thing you don’t want is for them to fall asleep

Neither of these words describing pigs are exactly positive. Moreover, the truth is what pigs have some good qualities. And there’s probably no good time to clear their names than now, with the arrival of the Year of the Pig on Chinese Spring Festival, which fell February 5 this year. According to a paper publishing in 2017, pigs can tell between those who treat them well or those who don’t.Perhaps these are the qualities of pigs to keep it in mind—their intelligence, cuteness and patience.
