Lesson 4 Auxiliary Machinery Operation (I)

The auxiliary machinery refers to all the machinery in the engine room other than the main engine, such as the generator, the boiler, the oil separator, the fresh water genarator and so on. They are not as big as the main engine, but much in number. They are essential for the operation of the ship.辅助机械是指机舱里除了主机以外的所有机械，例如发电机，锅炉，分油机，造水机等等。它们不像主机那么大，但是数量上要多。它们对于船舶的运行是必不可少的。

The boiler can be found on all kinds of ships. There are ususlly two types of boilers used on board, the fire-tube boiler and the water-tube boiler. The water-tube boiler can provide steam at very high temperature and pressure. It has many advantages over the fire-tube boiler.
