When two US astronauts went on a space walk earlier this month, they dropped some bolts(螺钉)。Scientists on the earth started to worry at once. Why? In space, junk can kill . The Beefeaters
Beefeaters eat beef, right? Wrong! This is a special name for the soldiers who stand guard outside the Tower of London. This place used to be the home of the kings and queens of England. The Beefeaters are still there but only as tour guides!
Some people think they got the name “Beefeater” because they were fed very well to prepare them for war. The name is probably from the French word, “Boufitirs”, the name for the guards in the home of French kings. They protect the king’s food. So the name “Beefeater” may have nothing do to with eating beef at all! Beefea ters were the bodyguards of King Henry VII of England from 1485. Even when the king no longer lived at the tower, the bodyguards stayed there. They have been there ever since.
