Hamlet
“To be , or not to be:that is the question”,this well know sentence let me be
interested in William Shakespeare’s famous drama, Hamlet.
William Shakespeare, who is a genius in the history of world culture and the
greatest of all English authors. This famous sentence comes from William
Shakespeare’s drama, Hamlet. This drama is one of his great tragedies, it is generally
regarded as Shakespeare’s most popular play on the stage . Danish history tragedy
"Hamlet" originated from a literary works, the Danish history, which written by a
historian in 12th century . In The Renaissance, a French writer adapted this ancient
into a tragic story. Around 1589, the British stage appeared a bloody tragedy "Hamlet",
it might be written by Kidd.Reference to previous works, Shakespeare gives his own
"Hamlet" of great social significance, and created a reflection of humanism
ideology.This drama told us a story about a prince who name is Hamlet.
It begins with the news of King Hamlet’s father of Denmark has recently died.
King Claudius, who now rules Denmark, he has married with Queen Gertrude, she is
the late King's wife. Hamlet is the late King's son, he does not trust the new
King.Hamlet meets the Ghost of his father. His father reveals that he was poisoned by
King Claudius and tells his son to revenge for his death but not to punish Queen
Gertrude . His mother will be judged by God. Then Queen Gertrude lies for her son,
saying that he is mad. King Claudius not believe it, so he decides to send Hamlet
away to England immediately, and tell Laertes who is Hamlet lover’s brother that
Hamlet killed their father. His lover Ophelia became mad after she got the news that
Hamlet is leave and she dead.Hamlet escaped from England and came back, so the
new King and Laertes plotting to kill him at a fencing match. Hamlet explained to his
friend Horatio how he avoided the death planned for him in England and how to had
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern killed instead, revealing his desire to kill King Claudius.
At the match Queen Gertrude drinks a poisoned cup which is prepare for her son
unware then she dead. Hamlet fences against Laertes but cut by Laertes sword.
Laertes is also cut by his own sword, and he explaining that his sword was poison
tipped, and he dead too. Hamlet stabs King Claudius with the same sword, killing him
and telling Horatio to tell his story and the truth to everyone.
A prince in our mind is always be careless and be happy, he has a perfect life
and has nothing to worry about. But in this drama our Denmark prince Hamlet is a
representative pessimist, he is very sentimental and indecisive. His words were acerb
and cruel, he is so mean to everyone including his lover. He took a long time to
thought about what should he do after he known the truth that his father is killed by
his uncle and his mother was got married with his uncle after his father’s dead,his
lover also dead after he left Denmark. His attitude and his expressions all can be
concluded to the knowledge that he has taken in his university. He is studying in
Wittenberg University, this school was the Europe’s center to run the thought of
humanistic in renaissance .This thought clame humanity and object to God. With this kind of thought our prince has a nice ideal about his future, he expect that his life will
be wonderful as he wished. But when he turn back to his home he found that things
were extraordinary different.
In one hand his father dead ,and the ghost asked him to revenge, in other
hand the knowledge he had got teach him to be kind. For this reason this poor prince
became very irresolute.
what should he do? There are so many problem need him to slove. If Hamlet is a
completely humanist he would not such painful. Humanist can understand their
mother got marry with other people, they clame be free and they just need to be angry
with their father’s dead.
I think the reason why Hamlet is so grieved and sharp is because his school is not
only a place to through out humanistic thought , but also his school is an important
position of philosophy and theology. Matin Luther, Philip Melanchthon and Martin
Chemnitz were all be a teacher in this school. One of Matin Luther’s achievement is
established the significant position of the Bible, in the Bible who get marry with
brother’s wife will be deserve punishment, they will not have children. In the drama
we can see Hamlet had cursed them, not just because his mother rebel her husband
and got marry with his uncle, the most important reason is Hamlet judged this with his
knowledge that he has taken in Wittenberg University, the religions thought. In this
thought ,uncle and his sister-in-law get marry is one kind of crime. It’s will bring
disaster to all of them. In this drama Hamlet can find a lot of chance to kill the new
king, but he delay it many times. While he put off his revenge he always stand a huge
torment. This felling comes from his duty, he can overturn this time through violence,
but if he take revenge in this way the result is only end a dynast and he will rebuild
another one .What’s he want to do is save people’s mind,self-sacrifice is his only
method. So before he dead he asked his friend to tell his story to everyone. It’s can
save more people, then this prince become a hero who save our human nature.
Hamlet is the spokesperson of William Shakespeare. The author use this prince’s
life to symbol a mind which clame by Protestant ,they advocate to save people’s mind.
William Shakespeare even use this drama’s name to call his owe son. We can imaging
how deep he love this drama.
Hamlet also have a big influence to us. A lot of movies were adapt from
it.For example,Laurence Olivier’s movie Prince of Denmark and FengxiaoGang’s
movie The Banquet. this drama give a lot of inspiration to writers. And the sentences
in this drama all very famous.
And I think this drama is really miserable,a poor child, father dead, mother
got marry with his uncle, he has nothing can do except be mad , he can’t tell his lover
what happened and no one can help him. If he has a brother , he can ask for help or
his brother may rob the throne from him too. In the end all the people were dead.I
