Technology has brought ancient poets “back to life”. At the World Robot Conference 2023 in late August in Beijing, there were two robots that looked like the Chinese poets Li Bai and Du Fu. While Li Bai was holding up a cup of wine, Du Fu was sitting at a desk, writing. These are called bionic (仿生的) robots. The robot’s skin is usually made of silicone (硅胶),CGTN explained in a video about Liaoning-based producer EXROBOTS. The robot’s skin is very soft. They can help it map out a 360-degree view (景象) of its environment. They also help the robot keep balance when walking on unstable (不稳定的) surfaces.Nowadays, bionic human-like robots mostly work with humans, such as by being tour guides or helpingvisitors at front desks. This could be because people are comfortable living and working with machines that look and act like them. They can “strike a chord (引起共鸣) with people,” a US robotics scientist Marc Raibert told New Yorker. As more human-like robots come out, safety will be the key, according to the Robot Report website. 最新中考英语阅读理解题汇总(共20篇附答案)Passage 1Nowadays, many teens are badly addicted to using phones. It probably won’t surprise you that teens are texting more than ever before.Instead of sleeping, Kenny Alarcon, 16, often texts with his friends through the night. Frances Garcia, a high school senior, sends and receives about 1000 texts each day. Both Frances and Kenny wake up several times during the night to text. Kenny even sleeps with his phone under his pillow.Dr.Elizabeth Dowdell, a professor at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, says that it’s common for teens to be interrupted by texts while sleeping. “If they often lose sleep,” Dr.Dowdell says, “teens may become angry, or depressed. A lack of sleep can lead to weight gain and even obesity because many people turn to junk food for quick energy when they are tired.”Some experts are worried about how texting is affecting teenagers’ lives. One concern is that students might not learn correct grammar and spelling if most of the writing they do is made up of text messages. Some people also worry that teens don’t spend enough time talking with others face-to-face, which could be hurting their relationships with friends and family. Moreover, all that texting takes away hours that could be spent studying, exercising, taking up a hobby, or just relaxing.According to Dr. Dowdell, teens need to learn that they can and should turn off their phones sometimes. She had Kenny and Frances do an experiment. These were the rules: No phone for 48 hours. No computer or Internet either, unless it was for schoolwork. After 48 phone-free hours, Kenny and Frances were interviewed. “Wow, it was pure torture(折磨),” Kenny joked. Kenny missed his friends, and he was sad at times. But he also felt relief from the constant texting. He spent time reading books and talking with his family, which he really enjoyed. Frances had an even happier result. “I loved it!” she said, “I was going to the gym and hanging out with friends and playing basketball. I had a wonderful experience.” Frances decided to continue the experiment for a while. “I think I’ll be so much smarter and healthier,” she explained, “everybody in the world should try it.”1. If teens keep waking up to text while sleeping, they may _____.A. get overweightB. become happierC. disturb their parentsD. feel more relaxed2. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?A. Mistakes in teens’ text writing.B. Time wasted on meaningless texting.C. Worries about how texting affects teens.D. Encouragement to teens’ talking face-to-face.3. The birds were given a choice of which “friend” to call on a touchscreen computer and the study showed that the parrots that called other birds most often were the most popular choices.Ilyena Hirskyj-Douglas, of the University of Glasgow and a co-author of the study, said that video calls had helped many people feel less isolated in the last few years. She added, “There are 20 million parrots living in people’s homes in the USA, and we wanted to explore whether those birds might benefit (受益) from video calling too. If we gave them the chance to call other parrots, would they choose to do so, and would the experience benefit the parrots and their caregivers?”Their study of 18 pet parrots suggested that there were, indeed, benefits for the birds. In the wild, many species of parrots live in large groups, but as pets they are, kept alone or in a small group. Living alone can cause birds, to develop mental problems, which include rocking, walking back and forth, or self-harming behaviors such as feather-plucking.The parrots first learned to ring a bell and then touch a photo of another bird on the screen of a computer to make a call to that bird, with the help of their owners. In total the birds made 147 calls to each other during the study, while owners took detailed notes on the birds’ behavior and the researchers later reviewed the video footage.Jennifer Cunha of Northeastern University said that the parrots “seemed to know” that they were communicating with other birds. “All the bird owners in the study said they valued the experience, and would want to continue using the system with their parrots in the future,” she said.“I was quite surprised at so many different behaviors,” said Hirskyj-Douglas. “Some would sing, some would play around and go upside down, others would want to show another bird their toys.”1.The main purpose of the study is to find out _________.()A.if parrots can learn to make video calls B.if parrots can benefit from video calling C.why parrots can have so many benefits D.why parrots can develop mental problems 2.What can we learn about the pet parrots?()A.Their way to communicate is singing.B.Most of them used to live in large groups.C.The most popular ones made most calls.D.They can make video calls bythemselves.3.Which word has the closest meaning to “isolated”?()A.amazed B.calm C.scared D.lonely4.The following paragraph can best go after ________.()Video calling could reproduce some of the social benefits of living in a group, according to Rébecca Kleinberger, of Northeastern University and first author of the study.A.Paragraph 1B.Paragraph 2C.Paragraph 3D.Paragraph 4参考答案:(A)1.B 2.A 3.C【导语】本文主要介绍了四种表演。
