其中的For baby/Animals尤其适合小宝宝的启蒙。

Here are four books that teach valuable money-related lessons and are children’s favorites.Lemonade in Winter by Emily JenkinsIt focuses on two siblings (兄弟姊妹) who make the interesting choice to open a lemonade stand in the middle of winter. The book features a memorable refrain (叠句) about lemonade while telling a story about how sometimes great ideas don’t turn out the way you expect them to.Bunny Money by Rosemary WellsThis is a “Max and Ruby” story, as it centers around a pair of rabbit siblings familiar to most parents of young children today. In this story, Ruby has saved $100 to buy her grandmother a birthday present, but various unexpected events happen to Ruby and Max, causing some of that money to disappear. Will they have enough money to buy gifts for their grandmother?Joseph Had a Little Overcoat by Simms TabackThe book tells the story of a man who has a nice overcoat, but he wears it a lot and it begins to wear out. Eventually, he reuses the material to make a jacket, then a vest, and then other different things until it becomes a cloth button. The book won the Caldecott Medal for its wonderful drawings. The Lemonade War by Jacqueline DaviesThis is the first in a series about two siblings who open competing lemonade stands. Except for the occasional Sunday dinners with friends, we spent much of our time in separate rooms. As a single parent, much of our communication involves me reminding him to clean his room, eat his vegetables or do his homework.I had a strong desire to hang out with my son outside the house, so I booked two tickets to Seoul for the September school holidays, surprising us both. With hurriedly packed suitcases and a basic travel plan built around some last-minute Google searches, we headed to the airport. There was a sense of liberation in reaching a destination without any set plans. We just walked for hours every day, stopping when we were hungry and wandering the back streets. Neither of us could speak Korean, so if we wanted to talk, we only had each other, which gave us a connection we don’t always have in our daily lives. My son was naturally curious, which made him a good traveler. And instead of questioning the things he suggested, I just went with them.He dragged me into shopping for jeans in stores down the street and made me catch buses that took us in the wrong direction entirely. He was unafraid and would walk into an art exhibition and manage to communicate enough, so the next minute we were offered cups of steaming green tea and shown artwork that wasn’t displayed on the walls.I saw him differently in South Korea. Not the child running late for school or forgetting to eat a bowl of carrots and peas, but someone taller than me who understood when to stand on a train so someone older could take his seat, and how to handle situations like trying on clothes and buying things with his own money.Traveling meant we were more like equals. And instead of feeling sad about the child version of him, I saw the adult he was becoming.41.What was the author’s role in her son’s daily life before the trip?A.The single parent sharing secrets.B.The single parent offering emotional support.C.The single parent guiding his ambitions.D.The single parent setting rules.42.Why did the author decide on the trip to Seoul with her son initially?A.To find purpose in life.B.To deeply bond with her son.C.To pick up a new language.D.To deeply expand their visions.43.What makes the author’s son a good traveler?A.Curiosity, bravery and sociability (好交际).B.Decisiveness (果断), endurance and safety awareness.C.Generosity, patience and perseverance.D.Language ability and a sense of direction.44.How does the author show her changed view of her son?A.Through character development.B.Through describing actions and behaviors.C.Through dialogue and interaction.D.Through citing others’ comments.45.What did the author probably think of the trip?A.Amusing.B.Demanding.C.Satisfying.D.Embarrassing.Americans are becoming more and more cautious about the way their personal information is being collected on the Web. A new Washington Post-Schar School poll (民意调查), for example, found that 72% of respondents (答复者) trusted Facebook “not much” or “not at all” to handle the data it collected on them responsibly. And 70% said they believed their smartphone or other tech devices were listening to them in ways they hadn’t agreed to.That warning proves reasonable. But many adult gift-givers may not realize that some children’s toys are collecting personal data, too. Toys with cameras, mobile apps, andrequirements to set up online accounts that store data about the toys and their users present privacy concerns. Toys that employ Bluetooth connections, for example, could be easily hacked (非法侵入).In 2022, My Friend Cayla — an early smart toy that used facial and voice recognition — was quite popular worldwide. If the Cayla doll was connected to a phone, data would be sent to the manufacturer (制造商) and a third-party company. And anyone with the My Friend Cayla app on their phone within 30 feet of a toy could access the toy and listen to the child user. So Germany made a special order for the doll Today, the only surviving Cayla dolls in Germany exist in the German Spy Museum in Berlin.Internet connected toys are really a problem these days. Many toy manufacturers are trying to build in protections, but that is not enough. The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), provides a more important layer of defense by requiring parents to be involved in researching a smart toy before buying it, setting up the toy and having their children’s online data removed when privacy concerns have been raised. The worldwide market for smart toys is expected to reach almost $70 billion in the next five years. As a father, I admit that these toys can be wonderfully engaging, entertaining, and even educational. Action figures, robots, or dolls that talk back and hold conversations can become loved companions. But we adults need to be sure that these high-tech friends aren’t also snitching (告发) on our children to online databases in inappropriate ways.46.What was the Washington Post-Schar School poll probably about?A.How children responded to the latest smart toys.B.Whether social media and tech devices were trustworthy.C.Whether the use of technology could promote toy sales.D.How tech companies collected users’ information.47.What do many parents ignore when they buy smart toys for their children?A.The necessity of letting children have their own accounts.B.The damage by smart toys to children’s mental health.C.The security risks caused by smart toys.D.The importance of downloading suitable apps for children.48.What was the German government’s special order intended for?A.Advertising a new smart phone technology.B.Preserving the collections in museums.C.Rejecting the Cayla doll.D.Urging parents and children to play with toys together.49.What does COPPA stress in terms of dealing with the problem?A.Governments’ regulations on the toy market.B.Toy producers’ efforts to protect online data.C.Children’s right to choose their favorite toys.D.Parents’ role in protecting children’s privacy.50.What’s the author’s attitude to smart toys?A.Objective.B.Hopeful.C.Negative.D.Doubtful.In theory, apps such as Vinted and Depop for selling second-hand clothes offer an opportunity to be both economical and fashionable, which can be good news for shoppers worried about rising costs and the sustainability (可持续性) of buying new clothes. Second-hand markets like these have long been praised as a wiser and more sustainable shopping choice. But our research has found these markets hide the issues caused by our consumption. They offer only individualized, gradual solutions to the vast global problem of waste.Experts in the business world are enthusiastic about the “circular (循环的) economy” created by apps where “pre-loved” clothes are marketed as a means of extending the lives of clothing and other consumer goods. Some resale markets are firmly situated within the common-sense understanding of the circular economy, as they enable unwanted goods to move on within the system, rather than being thrown away. But a truly circular economy ought to not only recycle goods but also prevent the future production of waste. According to a report by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, by 2030 we will produce over 100 million tons of new clothing each year, contributing to climate change more than international flights and shipping combined. So second-hand reselling has not significantly impacted the production of the global textile (纺织品) market.Buying and selling second-hand gets talked about and even advertised as what good, clever people do, especially under rising costs of living. Using a reselling app, or donating to and buyingfrom charity shops, creates a “warm glow” that balances the guilt of buying something new. However, second-hand markets are built to increase consumption, not cut it back. Charity shops, for example, under increasing pressure to be profitable, have to take on more professionalized and “for-profit” selling habits. Even luxury companies welcome second-hand shopping as it makes their market more attractive and means future consumers can get their goods.Apart from the individualized solution offered by the second-hand market, we should instead consider collective approaches. It could involve making brands responsible for the full lifecycle of the things they create and holding producers and governments responsible for their environmental failings.51.What is a long-standing belief about online second-hand markets?A.They leave shoppers less worried.B.They are eco-friendly shopping options.C.They ruin the shopping experience.D.They provide sustainable clothes.52.Which of the following belongs to the “truly circular economy”?A.Stopping future waste and recycling.B.Promoting the circulation of goods.C.Extending the shelf life of goods.D.Producing more goods with less energy.53.Why does the author mention the report from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation?A.To emphasize the necessity of recycling textiles.B.To show second-hand markets’ failure to reduce textile waste.C.To stress the need for innovation in the textile market at present.D.To compare the main contributors to climate change.54.What attitude do charity shops and luxury companies hold toward the second-hand market?A.Tolerant.B.Neutral.C.Supportive.D.Contradictory. 55.What can be a solution to the waste crisis?A.Removal of second-hand markets.B.increased funding for reselling apps.C.Standardization of clothing production.D.Joint efforts of the whole society.阅读表达Isabella, who is 10 years old, has been training in the athletic center since 2020. She enjoys taking part in the 800 meters, 1,500 meters and cross-country racing events. Early in 2024 Isabella completed in the state championships in all of these three events and qualified for the national competitions.Isabella is enthusiastic about her experience in the national competitions. She said that the most exciting thing for her was meeting other athletes from around Australia, including a new friend named Jessica. According to Isabella, when she participated at state level, the bar was raised. “The national competitions are really hard; it’s harder to win,” she says.Project worker Lisa notes that competing has had a positive impact on the young athlete. “Isabella’s participation in national competitions has enriched her life educationally, culturally and socially, ”she says.Isabella’s mother is her inspiration. Isabella is very grateful to her mother for the sacrifices she has made to enable Isabella to train. In order to motivate her and accompany her to the weekly training sessions, Isabella’s mother has to regularly give up work opportunities. Her mother, along with the rest of the family, is doing their best to raise the funds required for regular travel and registration fees. This is a common struggle for some families pursuing success for their children.Isabella longs to follow in the footsteps of her father, a talented runner and the first person in the family to complete in the Stawell Gift. When she is talking about running, she smiles with satisfaction and happiness. When she asked what her favorite about running is, she wastes no time in saying “winning”. Considering the hard work going on behind the scenes to help Isabella follow her love of running, the athlete’s simple motto—never give up—is somewhat important. 56.How did Isabella find her experience in the national competitions? Yeah, it looks good.Oh, god.You okay?Yeah. It's just overwhelming. It's a normal reaction.Your mom must be so excited.Uh...Actually, she doesn't know.Oh, and the father?Uh, he... He doesn't either. We're not together anymore, so...Amber, I have to ask...Is this a pregnancy you want?Uh...I know this is hard, Amber. But I'm your doctor, and I have to tell youthat if, for any reason, this isn't a pregnancy you want, you need to act sooner rather than later. Okay.Because it's getting close to the time that it's safe to start telling people.Sorry, could we listen one more time?Of course.Come on, one step at a time.- Come on. - Come on, you own this.- Come on. - You can do it.- Come on, come on. - Come on, Aida!Come on.- Keep going. - Yeah!Isn't she the best?- It's okay, honey. - Come here.I have a 9:15. - Oh, me too.Well, mine's with a client, so I cannot be late, And I think I should go in first.I got you. Why, you think it would be scandalousif you and I went to the office at the same time?I think they're lawyers, and they're smart, and they will figure it out.I think we should let them figure it out.I should've never let you go in law school.Maybe I let you go in law school. No, that's not the way I remember it.- Really? - No.What's happening? We just put this dress on.What? No, we didn't. You put this dress on.It's my job to take it off.You hear that? It's the sound of... Sweet froth, which I just learned how to make.- You know I hate cappuccino. - No, no, not the way I make it.Listen, what do you think for Ruby's bed there?Let's see. How old is she now, 14?15.Depressing sage or happy polka dots, I'm torn. This is sage?- It's depressing. - I'm gonna go with the polka dots. It's...- What is not to like? - I mean, you did good. It's me. It's me. I just don't...It's okay, you don't have to like cappuccino.- I love it. - Why don't you just stay?'cause this is getting me nervous. If you were here, it would be a lot easier.- She loves you. - Right.Well, that's why I'm leaving,'cause I think you could use some nice father-daughter time.I gotta go to vegas and do this. What? You don't know what you're doing.Yes, I do. I'm doing that.Anyway, she really liked me when I was your assistant.I don't know how Ruby's gonna feel about, you know, me as dad's girlfriend.I think she'll be excited about that.- She will be excited? - Yeah. Why haven't you told her?You told Sandy, right?I mean, not directly.- Sandy doesn't know? - Not yet.- Sandy's moving back to town with your daughter, - Yeah. - and she doesn't know what the situation is? - No, not yet.- I'm gonna tell her. - Okay. But I'm gonna wait till she's--Yeah, wait till it's good for her. She's intense. She's a very intense woman. You can't let her dictate this kind of stuff, you know.- There's nothing wrong with it. - She's not--nobody--You have a nice girlfriend who makes you nice cappuccino. - Why don't you just tell her? - Nobody dictates to me. - You know that. - Oh, no?Yeah. No. I'm gonna go.Is that all right?- See what I did? - You have permission. All right.Joe, we are opening our doors in two days.- We're doing the best we can. - I get that, but, I mean, You promised us that the work would be done. And there is no way that this is near done.- I think it looks terrific. - It looks terrific?Have you thought about having guys work in shifts, maybe get a crew working at night?- Yeah. - That is a great idea. It's not that easy to get guys to work nights.Plus, they expect time and a half.I told you guys this was gonna be a tight one.I am not following what you're saying here. You guaranteed us that you would be ready.I'm telling you, you know, I'm doing what I can. When the pope asked Michelangelowhen the sistine chapel would be done, he said, "When I can."You are not Michelangelo. Joe, hi.We have 39 kids walking through the door--- 38 kids. - 39.No, I'm not attending Chambers Academy.Very funny, Max. Oh, come on, man.You can carry more than three chairs at a time.Big big window, right?- Lots losts of open light and air. - The reason there's open spaceis because you haven't built any walls.- Boom, here it is. - Okay, we're gonna housesome of your student photos and students' artwork. We're gonna paint the wall.Yeah, you can paint that any color you want. You're trying to get me excited about this schoolby letting me pick the color of this wall. But it's not going to work, because I don't care about the color of this wall, nor do I care about color in general.Okay, Max, listen to me, it's not just about the wall.We want you to be excited to go,- because this isn't gonna be like your old school. - Not at all.None of that stuff that happened there is gonna happen here.I like homeschooling. I get my work done faster, and I don't have to worry about the other kids slowing me down. You don't have to worry about the other kids here, except that they're gonna want to be your friends.I don't need friends. I have Hank.Okay, you have Hank, honey. But you need other kids. You need friends that are your age, okay?- No, I don't. - Yes, you do.I'm going to homeschool and working at Hank's studio in the afternoons.I've decided.- Max, we have to-- - Can I go have a slice of- Okay, we're gonna talk about this more later. - We're not-we're not done.I don't look forward to that.- All right. - Where's the banana bread?- Yeah. - I ask you a question, I expect a response. It was so good to see him.He looks great. You mentioned that more than once. And Kristina told me that he was up practically half the night at the school, fixing the plumbing.Yeah, I heard that too.Yeah, so you two are talking. No, not really. So what hospital is he at?- Sunrise. - Okay, Sunrise. But I saw the way he looked at you, you know. And I got the sense that he may finally be coming around. Well, he may have waited too long.Oh, come on. Meaning what?Meaning I waited for him for a very long time, and I had to stop waiting, and I'm trying to live my life. Hey, I know headstrong men, right?I know it can be very frustrating. But when you have someone like Joel, you know, you don't give up on him.Okay, how about I take care of you?Which is what I'm here to do.- You have a seat. - I'm okay!Let me get you something to drink. What do you want to drink?- You don't want this, do you? See? - Oh, yeah, huh?- Do I know my body or what? - Good job, dad.I told you.Okay, honey, we're out of here.Oh, no, sir. Not yet, sir.- I'm not discharging you. - You're not?No, your electrocardiogram results were fine. But we're waiting on the results of your echo.Oh, no, you don't understand, doctor.I told you, I had a few too many martinis,- and I got up too fast. - Listen to him, dad.How long would that take?Well, just to be sure,I want our attending cardiologistto see you tomorrow. He might recommend further tests, possibly a coronary catheterization.- Huh? - What's that?A liquid dye is injectedinto the arteries of your heart through a catheter. We usually go in through the leg or the groin. You're not going anywhere near my groin.- It's a possibility. - No, you're not doing it. What do you want?I'll be right back.- Hi, it's not a good time. - I want to talk to the doctor. Mom wants me to talk to the doctor. It's fine, it's fine, it's fine.Tell mom to relax, okay? I'm handling it.Nobody's saying you're not handling it, Sarah.- Tell him they're gonna try to get into my groin, okay? - Sarah,- is that dad? - I want to get out of here.Of course, he's dad. He's being dad.No, you got to make sure that he listens to those doctors. - I've got to go. Bye. - Or I'll rip it out myself.- Dad, please. - If you sign out against our recommendation, you'll have to sign an ama formthat says you're refusing treatmentand take responsibility for any repercussions.- Dad, come on. It's not... - No.There is nothing to talk about. You go get the form. Here's the way it's gonna work, all right?I'm gonna leave here. And then eventually, I will see my doctor. But right now, I am gonna spend my birthday- with my daughter in vegas. - Just calm down. And we're having a great time.Do you think I'm gonna spend my time here- in this rinky-dink hospital... - Dad, dad,- lower your voice, okay?Dad,stop. - with a doctor that's barely 18 years old?- You're crazy. Go get the form, - I'm sorry. OK.- All right. Okay, all right, okay. - or I'm gonna rip this out of my arm myself.- Maybe get the form. - I'll have the nurse write--Thank you.Dad.Now it's going straight to voice mail.Ringing or just going straight to voice--- Straight to voice mail. - So she turned her phone off. It's not ringing, yeah.- She's avoiding you. - Can you believe that Sarah hung up on me?Yes, I absolutely can believe that Sarah hung up on you. - What? - She orchestrated a trip to vegas--I don't have any access to our father.- It's unacceptable. - You don't talk to me, mr. Vegas?- You just leave me on clue. - This is what you're gonna focus on?Our father's having a medical emergencywith my least-qualified sibling--my second least-qualified sibling. And I don't even know what hospital he's in. Sunrise. How would you know he's at Sunrise?I've had a few different medical emergencies- while on trips to vegas. - Yeah? Ever. And we don't want this school just to be,you know, an okay place. We want it to be a place where everybody can just be happy. We want it to be wonderful. But we're gonna need your help. You should've asked me first.I'm not gonna be attending Chambers Academy.I like watching paint dry.- Hey, can I come in? - Hey.What's up?I am kind of upset with you, and I wasn't gonna say anything, but I don't want to be passive-aggressive.And I just feel like you're treating melike I'm some girl that you don't even really knowand can't make time for.And it's, like, I love you, and I want to hang out with you, and you're really hurting my feelings.I'm pregnant.Oh, my god. Sarah. Sara...- You've got to be kidding me that the two of you are here. - Where's dad?- I told you I could handle this myself. - Where's dad? He's in his room, asleep. He's not in his room. He better not be in his room.- If he's there then there's trouble. - We were just knocking on his door. Are you sure you had the right room?- Look, right here? - You're sure he's in here?Yeah, well, he promised me he would tell me if he went anywhere.I don't know where else he would be.- Dad. - Okay, we already did this.- We gotta get in this room. - Dad.All right, hold on a second. Hey, excuse me.We're worried our father might be inside and unconscious.Could you open the door for us, please?- Maybe he's taking a nap with earplugs in. - Thank you. - Yeah, maybe he has earplugs in. - We're not criminals, we promise.- Thank you. Dad? - Thank you very much.- Hey. - Is he in there? No?He's not even--- Okay, I'm gonna get my-- - Sarah, what the hell? What do you mean, what the hell?I don't know, do you guys think we should split upor just keep on looking?Well, look for cigar smoke and listen for swearing.I told him to stay in his room, I swear. All right, well, we'll check with hotel security.- They can check all the hospitals and precincts. - Well, I've called them. You're not gonna have to check anywhere.Look at this, 12:00.- Hey. - Hey, dad.- Oh, look who's here. - Dad.- Dad. - What the hell are you doing?Oh, it's part of my birthday surprise.- No. - This is not a birthday surprise. We're on a rescue mission here. You told me you were staying in your room. You checked yourself out of a hospital against doctor's orders?- We were scared. - Honey, I didn't want to wake you.- I mean, come on, jeez. - Dad, you scared us half to death. Can we stay a little positive here? I mean, what the hell? When do we get a chance to be in vegas together? We're not in vegas together. Let's get out of here. No, we're not getting out of here.I'm gonna be splitting those eights, here we go.- No. No, no, no, no. - Stop that.- No more gambling. - Stop that. Ammie Reddick from East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, was only 18 months old when she had the accident that had scarred(留下创伤) her for life. The curious child reached up to grab the wire of a hot kettle in the family kitchen and poured boiling water over her tiny infant frame. Her mother Ruby turned round and, seeing Ammie horribly burnt, called an ambulance which rushed her daughter to a nearby hospital. Twenty percent of Ammie’s body had been burned and all of her bur ns were third-degree. There, using tissue(组织) taken from unburned areas of Ammie’s body, doctors performed plex skin transplants(移植) to close her wounds and control her injuries, an operation that took about six hours. Over the next 16 years, Ammie underwent 12 more operations to repair her body. When she started school at Maxwelton Primary at age 4, other pupils made cruel ments or simply wouldn’t play with her. “I was the only burned child in the street, the class and the school,” she recalled, “some chil dren refused to bee friends because of that.”Today, aged 17, Ammie can only ever remember being a burned person with scars; pain is a permanent part of her body. She still has to have two further skin transplants. Yet she is a confident, outgoing teenager who offers inspiration and hope to other young burns victims. She is a member of the Scottish Burned Children’s Club, a charity set up last year. This month, Ammie will be joining the younger children at the Graffham Water Center in Cambridge shire for th e charity’s first summer camp. “I’llshow them how to get rid of unkind stares from others.” she says. Ammie loves wearing fashionable sleeveless tops, and she plans to show the youngsters at the summer camp that they can too. “I do not go to great lengths to hide my burns scars,” she says, “I gave up wondering how other people would react years ago.”1. What can be the best title of the passage?A.A Seriously Burned Girl Survives B.Ways to Get Rid of Unkind StaresC.Permanent Scars and Pain for a Girl D.A Seriously Burned Angel of HopeB.A survey revealed the average Asian dad spent one minute a day with his children. I was shocked. I mean, a whole minute? Every day? Get real. Once a week maybe. The fact is, many Asian males are terrible at kid-related things. Actually, I am one of them.Child-rearing(养育) doesn’t e naturally to guys. My mother knew the names of our teachers, best friends and crushes. My dad was only vaguely aware there were short people sharing the apartment. My mother bought healthy fresh food at the market every day. My dad would only go shopping when there was nothing in the fridge except a jar of capers and a bay leaf. Then he’d buy beer. My mother always knew the right questions to ask our teachers. My dad would ask my English teacher if she could get us a discount on school fees. My mother served kid food to kids. My dad added chili sauce to everything, including our baby food. The truth is, mothers have superpowers. My son fell off a wall once and hurt himself all over. I demanded someone bring me a puter so I could google what to d o. My wife ignored me and did some sort of chanting phrase such as “Mummy kiss it better,” and cured 17 separate injuries in less than 15 seconds.Yes, mothers are incredible people, but they are not always right. Yet honesty forces me to record the fact that mothers only know best 99.99 per cent of the time. Here are some famous slip-ups.The mother of Bill Gates: “If you’re going to drop out of college and hang out with your nerdy friends, don’t e running to me when you find yourself penniless. ” The mo ther of Albert Einstein: “When you grow up, you’ll find that sitting around thinking about the nature of time and space won’t pay the grocery bills.” The mother of George W. Bush: “You’ll never be like your dad, who became President of the United States an d started his own war.”4. What does the underlined word “slip-ups” in P aragraph 4 probably mean?A. Stories.B. Shortings.C. Disadvantages.D. Mistakes.7. The last paragraph is mainly developed by __________ .A. providing different examplesB. following the order of spaceC. making parisonsD. analyzing causesC.If you never read the classic F.Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby, now is your chance to catch up—by watching the latest film adaptation. Because if there's one sentence to sum up the film,it would be,as Fox News says in its review,“It's just like the book.”Director Baz Luhrmann's main challenge was “either to find a visual equivalent(相等物)for Fitzgerald's elegant essay—the open secret of the book's staying power—or to bend the material to his own exotic(异国的)strengths,”a Time magazine review says. He tries it both ways, with varying degrees of success.Considered to be Fitzgerald's representative work,The Great Gatsby explores themes of idealism, resistance to change, social change, and excess, creating a portrait of the Jazz Age or the Roaring Twenties that has been described asa cautionary tale regarding the American Dream.Nick, the narrator, moves to New York for the summer to visit his cousin Daisy. His nextdoor neighbor is Jay Gatsby(Leonardo DiCaprio),who rarely contacts with others and is rumored to be a hero of the Great War. Gatsby claims to have attended Oxford University, but the evidence is suspect. As Nick learns more about Gatsby, every detail about him seems questionable, except his love for Daisy. Though Daisy is married,Gatsby still adores her as his “golden girl”.They first met when she was a young lady from a wealthy family and he was a workingclass military officer. Daisy promised to wait for his return from the war. However, she married Tom,a classmate of Nick's. Having obtained a great fortune,Gatsby sets out to win her back again.“All of Fitzgerald's original creation finds its way into this film, even going as far to include quite a bit of the original dialogue,” US film critic Justin Taroli writes in his review. “The cast is beautiful as is the script, and the scenes are a visual feast,” Taroli adds.Di Caprio does a good and professional job as the socialite by recreating Fitzgerald's description of Gatsby's charm. “He can look at someone f or an instant and understand how, perfectly,he or she wants to be seen,” David Denby,a film critic for The New Yorker, says in his review. The use of music is almost reason enough to see the film. “Luhrmann is athis best mixing visual and musical styles together to create something wholly original,” the Fox News review said. For example,in one of the most outstanding scenes in the film, the first party scene,Nick walks quickly from one party guest to another party guest tryingto explain all the gossip about Gatsby until he is finally introduced to theman himself, while the most stirring version of Rhapsody in Blue(posed by American musician George Gershwin in 1924)is played in the background.8.What did Baz Luhrmann do to make the film a success?A.He adapted the story in the novel as he wished.B.He made the film more powerful than the book.C.He mixed his style with the elegance of the essay.D.He showed the elegance of the pictures in the film.9.What is Taroli's attitude towards the film?A.Favorable. B.Sceptical(怀疑的). C.Amazed. D.Unconcerned.10.What are the characteristics of Gatsby?A.Faithful and warmhearted. B.Charming and professional. C.Selfish and stubborn. D.Mysterious and devoted.11.Why does the author give the example of the first party scene in the last paragraph?A.To unfold the fact that Nick wants to know more about Gatsby.B.To show the version of Rhapsody in Blue matches the film well.C.To prove that the director is good at bining visual and music.D.To convince us that the first scene is perfectly shot by the director.D.Dear Dad,Today I was at the shopping mall and I spent a lot of time reading the Father's Day cards. They all had a special message that in some way or another reflected how I feel about you.Yet as I selected and read,it occurred to me that not a single card said what I really want to say to you. You'll soon be 84 years old,Dad,and you and I will have had 55 Father's Days together. I haven't always been with you on Father's Day but I've always been with you in my heart. You know,Dad,there was a time when we were separated by the generation gap.You stood on one side of the Great Divide and I on the other. The FatherDaughter Duel shifted into high gear(档位)when you taught me to drive the old Dodge and I decided I would drive the '54 Chevy whether you liked it or not. The police officer who sent me home, after you reported the Chevy stolen, didn't have much tolerance for a stubborn 16yearold,while you were so tolerant about it,Dad,and I think that was probably what made it the worst night of my life. Our relationship greatly improved when I married a man you liked, and things really turned around when we began making babies right and left. Somewhere along the line, the generation gap disappeared. I suppose I saw us and our relationship as aging together, rather like a fine wine. But the strangest thing happened last week. I was at a stop sign and I watched as you turned the corner in your car. It didn't immediately occur to me that it was you because the man driving looked so elderly and fragile behind the wheel of that huge car. It was rather like a slap in the face delivered from out of nowhere. Perhaps I saw your age for the first time that day.I guess what I'm trying to say,Dad,is what every son and daughter wants to say to their Dad today. Honoring a father on Father's Day is about respectand sharing and acceptance and tolerance and giving and taking. It's about loving someone more than words can say,and it's wishing that never had to end.I love you,Dad.Love,Jenny12.From the 4th paragraph we know that the writer was sent home by the police officer because ______.A.she was driving a wrong car B.she was believed to be the “thief”C.she lost her way while driving D.she annoyed the police officer with her rudeness13..We can learn from the passage that Jenny and her father______.A.kept in touch by writing each other B.are separated due to the generation gapC.have been getting along very well D.had a hard time understanding each other14.Why did Jenny feel strange when she saw her father last week?A.She seldom saw him driving that huge car. B.She had never realized hisbeing old and weak.C.She didn't expect to meet with him there. D.She had never seen him driving so slowly before.15.Jenny wrote this letter to her father to________.A.tell him about their conflicts B.say sorry for her being stubbornC.express her gratitude to him D.remind him of the early incident 第二节(共5小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Max and Ruby第一季01:Max’s Froggy Friend的字幕: These will look beautiful on the table. Don’t you think so, Max? Froggy! I’m just going to pick a few more flowers for centerpiece. And then I’ll be ready to go. OK, Max? Froggy! Don’t you think that’ll look beautiful at our tea party? I just don’t know what little brother sees in froggies, as actually when they could be picking beautiful flowers. Let’s see if these go with the others. Oh, they are perfect! Grandma’s going to love this centerpiece. I think I’ve got just the right number of flowers. All right, Max. It’s time to go home. Grandma’s going to be overseen for our tea party. Froggy! You have to say goodbye to the froggy now. It’s time to go home. I’ll put all your toys in the wagon. Froggy! I picked up everything. All I need now is Max. Max! You have to come now. Don’t fall off, little flowers. I want Grandma to see every beautiful little petal. Max, are you…oh! Froggy! Max, you can’t bring froggy home. Froggy wants to stay here in the creek. It’s his home. Go take froggy back to his home. I’ll wait for you. Bye, Froggy! Max, hurry! Grandma’s going to be at our house any minute. Oh, good. You are here. Mmm, let me see your hands. No Froggy? Good. Then let’s go. What was that? All right, Max. Where is it? Froggy! Creek! Back it goes, Max. We can’t have any froggies at tea party for Grandma. Hurry up, Max. At last! You finally let the froggy go back home? I’d better check. Let me see your hands, Max. No froggy? No froggy! Good. Now, let me check your overalls’ pocket. No froggy? No froggy! OK, let’s go, Max. We’ve got a lot to do before Grandma comes over. We have to set the table, and arrange the flowers in the centerpiece, and put out the tea and cookies. I found this vase to put the flowers in. Don’t they look beautiful, Max? Oh! What was that? I heard a froggy, Max. Where is it? It seems to be coming from…over here? It seems to be coming from behind you, Max. A-ha! There it is. Froggy! Max, froggy can’t come and stay here. He wants to be at home in his creek. Besides, Grandma is going to be here soon. And a tea party is no place for froggies. Back he goes, Max. Let’s see. What else do we need? Tea, of course. Bye, Froggy! Hi, Max. Let me see your hands. No froggy? No froggy! Let me check your front pocket. No froggy? No froggy! All right! Now, your backpocket. No froggy? No froggy! Good! Now, you can have our tea party with Grandma. And now… Grandma! What are you doing with that froggy? I found him along the path to your house. So I thought I’d give him a ride. What a beautiful centerpiece! I made it myself. Somebody else seems to like it too. Froggy! Max and Ruby第一季02:Max’s Music的字幕: Thanks for fixing the chair, Max. Valerie and Louise are coming over to practice for the Bunny Scout Concert. Our group is called “Ruby's Red Hot Trio”. And we are going to play ‘The Farmer in the Dell”. Play! That’s not how you play piano, Max. Oh, good. They are here. Hi, Ruby! Hi, Ruby! Hello, Valerie. Hi, Louise. Are you ready to practice? I’ve got my violin right here. And I’ve got my recorder. Would you like to see it? I carry it in this case to keep it safe. See, I blew in this end and music comes out that end. Play! There’s only one recorder, Max. And only one violin. You don’t have a musical instrument, Max. So you can’t make music. Play! Introducing “Ruby's Red Hot Trio”! Featuring: Ruby on piano. Louise on violin. And Valerie on recorder. Play! It’s “Ruby's Red Hot Trio”, Max. That means three musicians. Not four! Four is a quartet. And a quintet is five. Play. Stop making noise, Max. We are making music. Tools do not make music. I’m sorry you can’t play music with us. But we could use a helper. Yes, every musician needs a helper. All kinds of people need helpers. You could start by carrying our instrument cases off stage please. Thank you, Max. Now, we can practice. Why don’t we practice our solos first? That way, we’ll be perfect when we play together. That’s a great idea. I’ve been practicing my solo all day. It’s no wonder you are the band leader. I’ve been practicing too. Bravo! Thank you! Thank you! Play! It’s time for your solo, Valerie. I’m a bit nervous. You and Louise are such good musicians. You can do it, Valerie. I did it. You played “Baba Black Sheep” beautifully, Valerie. Only, we are practicing ‘Farmer in the Dell” for the concert. Oops! A wrong music. What’s that noise? It’s not me! Play! Please stop making noise, Max. You can’t make music. But you can help. Here, why don’t you take these concert posters out and take them up for people can see them? Thank you, Max. Now, we can practice. Hello, Max. Advertising for the Bunny Scout Concert I see. I’m really looking forward to hearing them. The only thing better than hearing a concert band, is being in the concert band. OK, Red Hot Trio. What’s that noise? Now that we are playing together, it’s more difficult. How are we going to be ready for the Bunny Scout Concert? I’ll tap my foot and time to the beat. You can both follow me. Let’s try. One…and two…and three! We sound awful! Were you watching my foot, Valerie? I tried, but I can’t watch your foot and play at the same time. I need to look at my fingers. We’ve just got to try again until we get it right. Max, what are you doing? Wait, I think it’s working. Do that again, Max. Howdy, it is working. That’s it. Keep going, Max. That was perfect. We’ll have to change our name to “Ruby’s Red Hot Quartet”. Featuring: Ruby on piano. Louise on violin. Valerie on recorder. And Max on Wixom! Music.
