In the first study of its kind, a team of international researchers looked at the damage caused by one of the pollutants that have the most severe impact on health: PM2.5.Particulate matter, or PM, is a type of air pollutant consisting of small particles of different sizes. PM2.5 has a diameter of fewer than 2.5 micrometers, about 30 times smaller than a human hair. These particles are so smallthat they can go into our respiratory system(呼吸系统), resulting in lung and systemic inflammation(炎症) and stress. The team found that something as simple as a daily vitamin B supplement could potentially reduce the impact of the tiny particles on the human body, although they stressed that the research was in its early stages and the sample size was small. For this study, 10 volunteers were initially exposed to clean air and given a placebo(安慰剂) to check their responses. The group then took another placebo for four weeks before being exposed to heavily polluted air from downtown Toronto, where an estimated 1,000 cars pass every hour. The bad air was delivered to the volunteers through an “oxygentype” face mask. The experiment was then repeated, with each volunteer taking a B vitamin supplement daily made up of 2.5 mg of folic acid, 50 mg of vitamin B6, and 1 mg of vitamin B12. B6 can be found in liver, chicken and nuts, and B12 in fish, meat, eggs, milk and some cereals. The researchers found that four weeks of B vitamin supplements reduced the damage of PM2.5 exposure by 28%-76%. The results highlight how prevention at an individual level could be used to fight the harmful effects of PM2.5.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文.吸入人体内的PM2.5(细颗粒物)会导致疾病.不过,研究发现维生素B在一定程度上能降低PM2.5的危害.1.Why is PM2.5 harmful to our health?A.It pollutes and poisons the air.B.It is too much to be got rid of.C.It carries viruses and diseases.D.It is easily breathed in and damages our body.D 解析:细节理解题.根据第二段中的“These particles are so small...inflammation(炎症)and stress.”可知,PM2.5(细颗粒物)很小,能进入我们的呼吸系统,导致肺部和全身炎症.2.What can we infer from Paragraph 3?A.The process of the research was not scientific.B.This kind of research has been done many times. 课时达标(三十二) Unit 2 Robots75Ⅰ 阅读理解ATraditionally, robots have been hard, made of metal and other rigid material. But a team of scientists at Harvard University in the US has managed to build an entirely soft robot—one that draws inspiration from an octopus(章鱼).Described in science journal Nature, the “Octobot” could pave the way for more effective autonomous robots that could be used in search, rescue and exploration. “The Octobot is a minimal system which may serve as a foundation for a new generation of completely soft, autonomous robots,” the study's authors wrote.Robots built for precise, repetitive movements in a controlled environment don't do so well on rough terrains(地形) or in unpredictable conditions. And they aren't especially safe around humans, because they're made out of hard and heavy parts that could be potentially dangerous to their users. So researchers have been working on building soft robots for decades. They've taken inspiration from nature, looking to animals from jellyfish to cockroaches, which are often made up of more flexible matter. But creating a completely soft robot remains a challenge. Even if engineers build a silicone(硅酮) body, it's still a grand challenge to construct flexible versions of essential parts, such as a source of power.“Although soft robotics is still in its early stage, it holds great promise for several applications, such as searchandrescue operations and exploration,” Barbara Mazzolai and Virgilio Mattoli of the Italian Institute of Technology's Center for MicroBioRobotics, wrote in a comment. “Soft robots might also open up new approaches to improving wellness and quality of life.”语篇导读科学家受到章鱼的启发,制造了软体机器人,本文介绍了这种机器人的研发过程、用处及局限等。

Unit 2 Robots***阅读理解。
Despite being used by 1.34 billion people each year, traveling on the Tube in London can actually be quite lonely. One citizen, however,is trying to change this.“You get on the Tube and it’s completely silent and it’s weird,” says Jonathan Dunne, who has started a worldwide dialogue after giving out badges(徽章) with the words “Tube chat?” last month, encouraging passengers in London to get talking to one another.“I handed out 500 badges during rush hour in a city of 8 million, expecting most of them to be thrown away, but after about 24 hours it completely snowballed,”he says.Dunne and his “Tube chat” campaign have since been reported by media across the world, seeing TV interviews in Sweden, Brazil and the U.K.,as well as countless website, newspaper and magazine appearances.Although Dunne says he’s received mostly positive feedback, not everyone agrees with his idea.Londoner Brian Wilson responded with a campaign of his own, handing out 500 badges with the words “Don’t even think about it” on them. Michael Robinson,24,a student from London, agrees.“Being on the Tube is the only peace and quiet some people get on their journeys to and from work.It doesn’t need to be spoiled by people coming up and chatting to you,” he says.“People assume that I just walk up and talk to strangers, which I don’t,but it’s been a great way to meet people you would never have normally spoken to,”Dunne says.So if you ever end up using public transport in the West, why not say hello to the person next to you?Just make sure to check for a badge first.【解题导语】每年乘坐伦敦地铁的乘客众多,可是人们仍然感到孤独;为此Jonathan Dunne发起了一个旨在鼓励乘客相互交谈的运动,此举引起了世界媒体的关注。
Unit 2 RobotsⅠ阅读理解A(2018·浙江金、丽、衢十二校高三联考)Life is not always easy. One day you wake up feeling like you can take over the world, and the next day you wake up feeling like all you want to do is to lie in bed and hide from everything.People walk into your life, grab your hand, and lead you through the most beautiful path you’ve known, but sometimes the same people let go of your hand without warning, and you become stranded at a place where you never thought you’d feel lost.Let’s be honest, sometimes everything is going so great and it seems like nothing could go wrong, but right when you begin to think that, something so horrible comes crashing down and all of a sudden more problems come drowning around you and you just feel so hopeless because it’s so bad...It’s so hard to understand why such things happen in life, and I personally wish I had an answer to that “why” you always ask yourself, but all I can say is no matter how hard life gets, you have to keep going. The life around you will never stop going on.I’ll be honest and say that sometimes I feel a little bit worried and all I can think is “Will I be able to keep up? What if everything goes too fast?” But I realize that being scared and living with that burden of running away from problems only slow me down even more. And I’ve come to the point where I believe that because life never stops, I shouldn’t stop either. It’s okay to take a break and to give yourself time to heal, but you cannot give up and you cannot quit.Keep positive, fill your heart with gratitude for what you already have, and always remind yourself to be humble and true to who you are!【解题导语】本文讲述了生活的不易,告诫人们要保持积极的心态,心中充满感激,要谦虚。

2020届一轮复习人教版选修七Unit 2 Robots单元教案Part 1: Teaching Design第一部分:教学设计Period 1: A sample lesson plan for reading (Satisfaction Guaranteed)AimsTo help students develop their reading abilityTo help students learn about robotsProceduresI. Warming up by getting to know: What is a robot?Robotics is the science of studying and creating robots. It is a very broad and interesting science, because like humans, robots have many fascinating aspects. It is also a new science. Although people have been imagining and writing stories about robots for many years, robotics has been a real science only since the 1970'sWhy do we need robots? First, they are hardworking and reliable. They can do dangerous work or work that is very boring or tiring for humans. They can work around the clock without complaining and without needing rest, food or vacations. And robots can go places that humans can not, such as the surface of Mars, deep under the ocean or inside the radioactive parts of a nuclear power plant.II. Pre-readingTalking about the three Laws of RoboticsAccording to Isaac Asimov, the Three Laws of Robotics are:1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.2. Reading more about the 22nd centuryThe 22nd CenturyThe 22nd Century began with high crime rates within major cities, and life on Earth was tough. In 2105 the Terra Alpha colony reported back that all was well. Their planet had native plant and animal life, however, no sentient life had been found. Mining equipment was being set-up, and all was well.It was news such as this which started to motivate mankind to continue its exploration of space. Opposition to T-Mat had already started to appear, but the final straw was in 2110, when Earth received a major shock as both the moon base and Earth itself was attacked by the Neo-Martians.Their plan was foiled by a crack group of three men, and the global councils had the task of repairing all the damage resulting from the Martian assault. The attack had taught Earth a lesson; the ISC was given greater powers and taxes were raised to finance space travel. "Co-operation Is Key" was the media hype, and work began in establishing a true world government. T-Mat was regulated to a more normal usage and a new space-exploration program began.A true world government was finally achieved in 2113, with 99% of former countries joining. The other 1% dissolved and thereafter a new World President was elected. Individual countries were treated as federal states (for example, the USA was treated as five different states). As the 2110's began, mankind discovered the first, still rudimentary FTL propulsion. In addition, sub-ether FTL communication had been perfected. Both of these technologies propelled matter or energy at Warp 2. Thus, communication was no faster than transport. A second wave of colonization ships, this time using warp drives, was launched in 2114. IV. Learning about the passive voiceACTIVE AND PASSIVE TENSES CHARTV. You may include as many attributive clauses as possible. My father: a teacher and writerMy father is a Chinese teacher and writer. He has written around 40 books. His best known book is not his science fiction stories, but his dictionaries for English learners in China. My father has both an extraordinary imagination and an amazing mind. These give him the ability to explore English teaching and the real world lives. My father has been searching for explanations of everything related with English teaching in China, in the present, in the future and the past.My father was born on 4 May, 1959. His life as a high school teacher ofEnglish began in a small town in the mountains in north China, and continues as a college teacher of English now in a big city, also in north China. My father’s father, by the way, died as a result of high blood pressure in 1996, one year before Hong Kong returned to China. My father moved with his parents to North China when he was 14 years old. They bought a small house at their home village, where my grandmother still lives. My father worked at that small village as a farmer for 3 or so years. At the age of 19, he succeeded in the national entrance examination. He was accepted into a teacher’s college. He worked at a part-time job through his college years until 1981. Ten years later, he managed to gain a master’s degree at university in English in Beijing. My father first worked as a junior high school teacher of English. In 1992, he became a college teacher of English in a big city. He then gave up teaching to become a full-time writer. His talent for writing became obvious to him one day when he read part of his book to his students. They thought he was retelling a story from a book to them. This incident gave my father a surprise. From that moment, my father began to take himself seriously as a writer. Now my father is having book after book published in various magazines. In the past ten years or so, my father ahs been receiving many awards forhis books. He even wrote a book about the death and rebirth of a great empire in a galaxy of the future. But he is better known for his collection of short stories. In his writing, he develop s a set of three “laws” for writing books which has influenced many writers throughout the world. Right now, my father is researching into artificial intelligence. He dreams that one day robots could be writing books for us human beings.V. Reading more about AsimovOf his own work, what were Asimov's favorite and least favorite novels? What were his favorite and least favorite stories?Asimov's favorite novel was The Gods Themselves, largely because of the middle section, which was both absolutely brilliant and included non-humans and sex.His least favorite novel was The Stars Like Dust.Asimov's three favorite stories were (in order): "The Last Question", "The Bicentennial Man", and "The Ugly Little Boy" (all found in The Best Science Fiction of Isaac Asimov, among other places).Among his least favorite stories were:"Black Friar of the Flame" (found in The Early Asimov). The story was his first attempt at a "future historical" and was bounced around from editor to editor until it was finally published. His all-time least favorite story was "The Portable Star" (Thrilling Wonder Stories, Winter 1955).He also published a story, "A Woman's Heart" in the June 1957 Satellite which he considered so trivial that he never included it in any of his collections.VI. Closing down by discussing the 1940 Laws of Robotics by Asimov First Law:A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.Second Law:A robot must obey orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.Third Law:A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.。
课时作业 32Ⅰ.阅读理解(2019·陕西省榆林市第一中学高三检测)Robots come in many shapes and sizes, but scientists in Zurich, Switzerland, have developed one new robot called Pleurobot, which looks and acts just like a salamander (火蜥蜴).To create the robot, scientists took hu ndreds of Xrays of real salamanders. They studied the images of these animals to see which joints (关节) and muscles the animals use as they move. Then the scientists built the Pleurobot's skeleton to move just like the real thing. This makes the robot's movements incredibly lifelike.According to experts, salamanders were among the first animals to develop a skeleton and nervous system that allowed them to travel on land. “By studying the modern salamander, we have a time window to the ancestors of all vertebrates(脊椎动物), including humans,” Auke Ijspeert, the designer of the robot, told scholastic News Online. Both people and salamanders have a spinal cord (脊髓). An injury to the spinal cord can result in the inability to move. Now, there is no cure for paralysis (瘫痪). Ijspeert hopes that the Pleurobot can help change that. Because these studies could help researchers develop new ways to help people who have been paralyzed by spinal cord injuries.Scientists think that the Pleurobot could also be used for searc handrescue tasks too dangerous for humans. Because the robot is low to the ground and has a wide range of motion, it could be used to get into dangerous places, like fallen buildings, to look for survivors. Thanks to its waterproof suit, the robotic salamander could even participate in underwater missions.Experts are now working on a smaller, sturdier (harder to break) model of the Pleurobot. They expect this one to be even better suited for getting into small spaces to do dangerous work.这篇文章主要讲了瑞士的科学家发明了一款新的机器人,这款机器人看起来有些像火蜥蜴。

Unit 2 Robots导读:随着我们对健康与健身的认识与日俱增,人们越来越感兴趣的不仅仅是关心身体健康,还注重心理与精神的健康。
因此,许多人转而寻求更全面的途径来增进健康,如瑜伽。
Task: What benefits does playing yoga have?As our knowledge of health and fitness increases, people are becoming more and more interested in not only taking care of themselves physically, but mentally and spiritually as well. As a result, many are turning to more complete approaches to health, including less mainstream fitness methods such as yoga.Yoga's origins lie in Hindu philosophy, which was developed thousands of years ago in India. Today, yoga is a system of movements and meditation that emphasizes physical control and discipline as a way to achieve a state of spiritual knowledge. Yoga's ideal stateof knowledge is reached after a person has gone through eight different stages. For a practitioner of yoga, or “yogi” the progression through these stages is a movement from the physical toward a perfect mental state.Recent decades have seen yoga gain widespread acceptance as a method of staying in shape, as well as a way of handling stress. Pop singer Madonna and supermodel Christy Turlington are just two of the many celebrities known to be strong advocates of yoga.请根据语义及提示写出单词1.
