Do you want to watch a game show?

Good morning, dear judges.

I’m No.2 candidate. Today my topic is “Do you want to watch a game show?” It’s my great honor to present my teaching plan here. My teaching plan consists of 7 parts.

Part 1 Analysis of teaching material

The lesson is a passage from Section B, Unit 5, Book A of PEP Grade 8. The main topic of this lesson is Mickey Mouse. After learning this lesson, students can know more about Mickey Mouse.

Part 2 Teaching aims

I set three teaching aims according to the New Curriculum Standard.

1.Knowledge & skills

Students can master the new words: rich, reason; new phrases: find out, be ready to;

Students can master the new sentence patterns.

2.Process & methods

Students can describe their favorite cartoon characters.

3.Emotion, attitude & values

Students can be more optimistic and brave.

Part 3 Teaching key and difficult points

Key points: infinitives used as objects.

Difficult points: How to cultivate students’ spirit of never giving up.

Part 4 Analysis of students

Students in Junior High School have strong curiosity and thirst for knowledge, so I will try

my best to enrich the knowledge they want. Still they can’t express themselves fluently, so I will design different tasks for them to use the language.

Part 5 Teaching methods and learning methods

In this class, I will mainly adopt Task-based teaching method and Communicative Approach. The aim is to improve students’ enthusiasm and teach them to learn to play and play to learn. Students will use Autonomous learning method and Cooperative learning method. The aim is to make students active in class.

Part 6 Teaching procedures

Step 1 Lead-in

In this step I will show students a cartoon movie of Mickey Mouse and ask them what they know about Mickey Mouse. The purpose is to improve students’ enthusiasm and lead in the topic.

Step 2 Pre-reading

In this step I will teach students new words and phrases in the passage. Then I will let students look at the title and pictures to predict what the passage talks about. The purpose is to create a relaxing learning atmosphere and facilitate students’ learning of the passage.

Step 3 While-reading

In this step I design three activities.

Activity 1 Skimming: I will ask students to skim the passage and try to find out the main idea of each paragraph.

Activity 2 Scanning: I will ask students to scan the passage and complete the chart. Activity 3 Careful-reading: I will ask students to read the passage carefully and answer these questions:

1. Who is behind Mickey?

2. How did Mickey Mouse become popular?

3. Do you think Walt Disney is a smart man? Why or why not?

In this step students’ reading comprehension abilities will be improved.

Step 4 Post-reading

Students are asked to form groups and discuss the question: What can we learn from Mickey Mouse? Through discussion, students’ critical thinking and cooperative learning abilities will enhanced.

Step 5 Summary and Homework

I will ask students to summarize what we have learnt and I will make supplements saying that we should be like Mickey Mouse. Be ready to face any obstacles and be brave to face any danger.

I will ask students to write a composition about a famous Chinese cartoon character. The purpose is to check if students have mastered what we have learnt and cultivate students’ independent learning abilities.

Part 7 Blackboard Design

The blackboard design should be clear, concise and in good order.
