(PIC1 欢迎画面)A nia ha sai yo! Welcome to our Traveling Around the World.
Here we are in Jeju island. (PIC2 Jeju)I am Cat, your MC. Now, let’s travel in Jeju
together, here we go! (PIC3 Jeju,单击)As we know, Jeju island is a volcanic island,
and it is the biggest island in South Korea. Tourism commands a large fraction of
Jeju's economy. Jeju's temperate climate, natural scenery, and beaches make it a
popular tourist destination for South Koreans as well as visitors from other parts of
East Asia.
(PIC4 汉拿山)Well, we are going to Mount Halla, it is 1,950 meters high, the
symbol of Jeju. (PIC5 汉拿山)Halla means a mountain can get the Silver River, in
fact, it is the highest mountain in the South Korea. (PIC6 汉拿山)There is a variety
of leisure sports that tourists can take part in Halla including golf, horse riding,
hunting, fishing, mountain climbing, and so on. Some TV shows were acted in Halla,
and can you guess what are they? (PIC7) My name is Kim Sam-sun, the Palace,
(PIC8)Dae Jang Geum. Secret Garden, (PIC9来自星星的你)My love From the Star,
Running men.
Next we will go to Seongeup Folk Museum. Before that, I will tell you some
about Jeju. It is said that there are lots of sea women, wind, and stones, and there is no
thief, gate, and beggar. What a wonderful world! Dear friends, do you want to come?
(PIC10 城邑民俗村)Here it is the museum, a very little old countryside. (PIC11
城邑民俗村)Once upon so many years, South Koreans have been keeping the culture
of this countryside until now, and here I will teach you some Korean. (PIC12)If you
meet the one you like, you can say "A nia ha sa yo!", it means Hello~ Hi~. Follow me,
"A nia ha sai yo"~ Excellent! If he gives you gift, you can say "kang sa ha mi da!"
very well! If you hurt him, you can say "mi a nai da". ~ Good job! Then when you
have date, don't forget to say "chou a hey yo!" or "sa la hei " (PIC13)Well, there are
two old interesting words. In old age, a man could marry 3 women, and women's
position was very low, so called they "leng ba li." Men were "wang ba li", cuz they
were cruel and violent, always did bad to thier wives. Girls, we all like handsome
guys in South Korea, but if you marry one, you must clean the house twice a day, and
if your mother-in-low is in home, 3 times a day. But this rule is changable in modern
times, as we know, (PIC14韩国总统)the president in South Korea is a woman, Park
Geun-hye and now let's meet (PIC15 海女城邑民俗村)a very special occupation in
Jeju, Haenyeo, the sea women, who are often the heads of families, cuz they
controlled the income. (PIC16 海女)Wow! We are so lucky that we can see one now!
Look! As I know, their age is from 40 to 90, this sea woman is look like in her 50. Do
you believe it? Why men don’t do it? Cuz government changes the tax rate after 19th
century. If men do work, the family will pay more tax than women do. (PIC17 海女鲍鱼)What the sea women catch in the sea most important is abalone, and it is very
dangerous.
Well, bid farewell to these strong women, our today’s time’s up. (PIC18 88)Dear
friends, if you want to know more about Jeju, please lock our Traveling Around the
World. Now please appreciate the song, My destiny. Music!

The most popular tourist spots on the island are Cheonjeyeon and Cheonjiyeon
waterfalls, Mount Halla, Hyeobje cave, and Hyeongje island. There is a variety of
leisure sports that tourists can take part in Jeju including golf, horse riding, hunting,
fishing, mountain climbing, etc.
Because of the relative isolation of the island, the people of Jeju have developed a
culture and language that are distinct from those of mainland Korea. Jeju is home to
thousands of local legends. Perhaps the most distinct cultural artifact is the ubiquitous
dol hareubang ("stone grandfather") carved from a block of basalt.Another distinct
aspect of Jeju is the matriarchal family structure, found especially in Udo and Mara,
but also present in the rest of the province. The best-known example of this is found
among the haenyeo ("sea women"), who were often the heads of families, because
they controlled the income.
