In 1826, a Frenchman named Niepce needed pictures for his business. But he was not a good artist. So he invented a very simple camera. He put it in a window of his house and took a picture of his garden. That was the first photo.

The next important date in the history of photography was in 1837. That year, Daguerre, another Frenchman, took a picture of his reading room. He used a new kind of camera in a different way. In his pictures you could see everything very clearly, even the smaller things. This kind of photo was called a Daguerretpye.

Soon, other people began to use Daguerre’s way. Travelers brought back back wonderful photos from all around the world. People took pictures of people and moving things. That was not simple. The photographers had to carry a lot of films and other machines. But this did not stop them. For example, some in the United States worked so hard.

Mathew Brady was a famous American photographer. He took many pictures of great people. The pictures were unusual because they were very lifelike (栩栩如生的).

Photography also became one kind of art at the end of the 19th century. Some photos were not just copies of the real world. They showed ideas and feelings (情感), like other kinds of art.

There will be more educational programs on the radio or on TV, even on the Internet. So many children who live in faraway (遥远的) villages don’t need to go to school every day. They can study at home. Each family will have a robot. Robots will help people with their housework.

Some people say human being (人类) are not the only animals that have languages. Other animals also “talk” to each other in different ways.

For many years scientists have been making experiments (试验) with animals and they have learned a lot about animals. A bee can tell other bees about food by dances. There are two kinds of dances ---- round dance and tail-wagging dance. If the food is far away, the bee makes the tail wagging dance. Others bees know how far the food is by watching the dance. They also learn what flower they should look for by smelling the dance bee. But they do not know whether the food is high up in the air or low down on the ground. Like bees dolphins, which live in seas, also can tell others about food and other things. Monkeys are clever than bees and dolphins. But scientists find it difficult to teach monkeys to speak like human beings. Sign language, in which words are not spoken, is a better language for monkeys to learn.

We really can not say whether animals can have language or not more experiments have to be done before we can give a clear answer to this question.

阅读短文回答下列问题:

1.If food is far away, the bee makes __________.

2.Other bees can tell _________ from watching the dance.

3.Dolphins ____________.

The survey shows if people want to live longer and more happily, you need to have some friends who can share your sadness and happiness or can be helpful when you are in trouble. The following friends are just what you need to keep the doctor away. A Loyal Best Friend Everyone needs a friend who will support you in different situations. This kind of friend knows all of your deepest and darkest secrets, but still loves you all the same. A Friendly Neighbor These days, a lot of people don’t know their own neighbours. It’s a shame, because some neighbors can be the most helpful people. If you forget to lock the front door when you are on holiday, you can call your neighbors to lock it for you. So it’s wonderful to have nice and helpful neighbors. A Workmate You’ll find it much easier to chat with someone than eating lunch along every day. Your workmate doesn’t have to be your best friend. If you two get along with each other, you can always start going out with them outside of the office. A Friend from a Different Culture If everyone has a friend from a different culture, the world would be much better. Remember that don’t be friends with someone just because they are from a different culture. Instead, keep your mind open, and if you meet someone from other countries, try to learn about their customs, values, and traditions. If you have such kinds of friends, you will surely live longer and more happily.
